The internet has lost the principles that lead to beautiful haiku because the school system doesn't teach the principles. It teaches a 5, 7, 5 syllable system that does not capture the essence of haiku. Read this captivating one by Bashō.

Think about the implications of the haiku. Haiku isn't meant simply to be a poem for contrite, bland thoughts or pretty words. Haiku, and poetry in general, needs to have a deeper meaning than "Which will brings smiles, an old joke or a new joke?" Think about this one:

Look for the deeper meaning. I understand that this thread is one for fun and that it's difficult to come up with something that has meaning, I do. Most of the things I write don't have the meaning that I want them to have. But somewhere along the line we have to get ourselves out of the rabbit's fur and climb to the tips of its hairs and think. Just think. We can't keep living our lives in a non-thinking way. Have you ever considered why you're alive? Why you even exist? What is your purpose? Why do you do the things you do? Think! The world is going soft and it's getting comfortable in saccharine things and it isn't thinking anymore. Think. Write things with meaning. This thread is a great place to start doing that. It'll be incredibly difficult, sure, but we have to start somewhere. Start writing with intention. Intentionally put meaning into poetry. Live intentionally.
