The Internet is an infinite source to discover new music, If you know where to look.

This thread exist to share music with other members of the dollars community. You know, to help them find their new favorite band/musician.
I'll be doing my part by sharing the latest and greatest in underground music, from multiple genres.
Think of this thread as a radio show via text.

Here's how it works.
Start with a picture (Make it look pretty)
Name:
Song:
Genre:
Some brief information about the band/musician or song. Or experiences you had.
And finally, link it.

Lets get started!
Did anyone see the movie Drive? Pretty good flick, but what I really digged was the soundtrack. Kavinsky, College, The electronic Youth, and Anoraak, was quite the selection for a movie with a vibe like that.
So I got to see The electronic Youth, Anoraak, and College perform live, and I must say, it was quite a show.
(The Picture above, is a picture I took of Frédéric Rivière from Anoraak)
Since all these guys kind of have a retro 1980's vibe to their sound I'm kind of stuck on that at the moment.
So I'm Gonna get started with a track by Anoraak.

Name: Anoraak
Song: "Nightdrive with you"
Genre: Synth-Pop

Anoraak is actually a solo producer from Nantes, France. But performs live as a band. The song "Nightdrive with you" is apart of the first EP by Anoraak in 2008. Enjoy.

So, this djent thing is becoming quite a phenomenon on the BBS. Everyone in on this will have heard something by Periphery by now, it's inevitable. Well, Periphery went through a lot of line up changes in its history. The range of these musicians has led me to check some of them out, and today, I checked out Mark Holcomb's previous project Haunted Shores.

What I found was more than I bargained for. You see, Haunted Shores was okay, but I was listening to a split EP they did with a British/Djapanese act called Cyclamen, led by the brain of Hayato Imanishi.

And Cyclamen blew me the fuck away.

Their first full album Senjyu has a huge range of sound, with some full throttle metal screaming and chugging, and some relaxed, lullabyish, empty songs. It's a unique thrill ride, and in this, you wouldn't have understood the lyrics anyway, but it does happen to be all Japanese (cue the weeaboos.) At a runtime of only about 38 minutes, and with half the songs being shorter than 3 minutes, it's a quick listen, but a frenzied and strange one at that. The stuff is fantastic though, and definitely worthy of my first share in this thread.

Name: Cyclamen
Song: "Comfort"
Djenre: Metal, Mathrock, Some other djazzy stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOuayaUO7x4

"Comfort" is one of the more relaxed songs on the album by far, and certainly not what most of Cyclamen sounds like, but it's far more accessible and right up there in my favorite tracks on the album, so why not share it?

I just really wish I could find some romaji lyrics of this stuff.

Nice thread BTW, Xissx.

Thanks Yata.

Today I worked through a thunderstorm that was pretty intense, So I decided to post a track that's also pretty intense.
This next track is by The Pirate Ship Quintet and it's amazing! Hell, I can go as far as calling it golden.
Don't believe me yet? You'll find out soon enough.
I tend to discover new music late at night to avoid some of my other late night addictions. But oddly enough, discovering music late at night has become an addiction too.
So I find myself staying up till 4AM surfing for the web for tracks, and then I stumble upon this masterpiece.
Once I began to listen, I stopped everything I was doing. It's like my mind just shut off for the entire song.
This track packs a punch, and The Pirate Ship Quintet does an excellent job of bringing emotion in to this. I highly recommend to give this a listen.

Name: The Pirate Ship Quintet
Song: "I Kina Spiser De Hund"
Genre: Instrumental Rock, Orchestral Rock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBVgewrtQg

I haven't really come around to telling much people about this band, but I really should. These guys come from Bristol, UK and the number of members seem to shift between five and eight people. The song, "I Kina Spiser De Hund" is from their self titled EP, back from 2007. And I get goosebumps every time I listen to it.
To put it simply; This track does somewhat of an emotional rise and fall, You'll understand after hear it.

Good morning everyone! I must say, I'm glad to see other members taking part in this thread. Please, keep it up. :)

Has anyone heard of the band Unknown Mortal Orchestra? Well apparently, they came by to my town yesterday, and played at the Union Transfer center, along with Liars.
And where was I? WORKING! If I knew ahead of time I would have been there! Even though I missed it, I plan on making up for it. I have other concerts to go to as well, and I'm even going on a record hunt today!
So lets start today with one of my favorite songs by the Unknown Mortal Orchestra, shall we?

Name: Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Song: "Ffunny Ffrends"
Genre: Indie Rock, Psychedelic rock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-36lCKovBg

It's a funny story how I found out about this band. I had lots of gigs before but I finally got a gig in the city, so it was a pretty big deal. The big trouble was transportation. So I needed to carry my equipment on to a bus and train. I wasn't looking forward to that.
So I get on the bus, and the driver asked me where I was heading, lugging all that stuff around. I told him I was on my way to a gig, and that I'm an amateur producer/DJ, that makes a lot of Psychedelic chill wave tracks.
We then got into a prolonged conversation about music, and Introduced me to such bands as; Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Mint Chicks. The day after the gig, I went to check them out, and it was quite a find. The track that really got stuck in my head was. "Ffunny Ffrends" by Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra was actually a project created by Ruban Nielson of The Mint Chicks. I wish I could continue but I'm In a hurry, so enjoy!

With this thread, I've decided that I like Xissx. This thread is an obvious win. To show my appreciation, I'll introduce you all to a good band. I've introduced this band to many people, and so far have had nobody dislike it. A kid said it was creepy, but she thinks everything is creepy, so that doesn't count.

This band is called Apocalyptica. They are a band from Helsini, Finland that consists of four members. three celloists and one member who alternates between the cello and the drums. Their music mostly stands out because they're an all cello (and drums) band that uses the cellos to get sounds that are similar to sounds of a guitar. You seriously wouldn't tell that they are cellos in some of their songs. Depending on the song, they have a guest singer if any vocals are needed. They have many of their own original songs, and they play songs by other bands such as Metallica, Breaking Benjamin, and many others. Even their original songs can include lyrics.

They have a wide variety of guest singers for their albums, which shall be listed below.
Adam Gontier (of Three Days Grace) on “I Don't Care”
Brent Smith (of Shinedown) on “Not Strong Enough”
Corey Taylor (of Slipknot, Stone Sour) on “I'm Not Jesus”
Cristina Scabbia (of Lacuna Coil) on “S.O.S. (Anything But Love)”[12]
Doug Robb (of Hoobastank) on “Not Strong Enough”
Emmanuelle Monet (of Dolly) on “En Vie”
Erik Canales (of Allison) on "Solo Tu"
Gavin Rossdale (of Bush) on “End of Me”
Joe Duplantier (of Gojira) on “Bring Them to Light”
Lacey Mosley (of Flyleaf) on “Broken Pieces”
Lauri Ylönen (of The Rasmus) on “Life Burns!” & “Bittersweet”
Linda Sundblad (of Lambretta) on “Faraway Vol. 2”
Marta Jandová (of Die Happy) on “Wie Weit” & “How Far”
Mats Levén (of Therion, Krux) on “S.O.S. (Anything But Love)” & “I Don't Care” (Backing Vocals)
Matt Tuck (of Bullet for My Valentine) on “Repressed”
Matthias Sayer (of Farmer Boys) on “Hope Vol. 2”
Max Cavalera (of Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, ex–Nailbomb, ex–Sepultura) on “Repressed”
Nina Hagen on “Seemann”
Sandra Nasić (of Guano Apes) on “Path Vol. 2”
Till Lindemann (of Rammstein) on “Helden”
Ville Valo (of HIM) on “Bittersweet”

They also have guests to play other instruments in their albums, listed below.
Tomoyasu Hotei[12] guitar on “Grace”
Dave Lombardo (of Slayer) drums on “Betrayal/Forgiveness”, “Last Hope” & “2010”
Richard Z. Kruspe (of Rammstein) guitar on “Helden”

They have different singers to tour with them because, believe it or not, some of their most popular songs actually include vocals.

My personal favorite, one of their top songs, and a song that I've used to get everyone hooked is called "I Don't Care."

Just because you hear one or two songs that you don't like by them doesn't mean you shouldn't try the band out. They play a wide variety of genres such as classical music, neoclassical metal, speed metal, alternative metal, post-grunge, hard rock, progressive metal[citation needed], thrash metal and symphonic metal. They are generally known as the stereotypical head-banging hard rockers though.

I didn't really use the format given by Xissx, but all of the required information is there, as well as a shitload of extra crap that you don't care about. I might now be as good as they are with this, but I sure as hell can try! I redid it to post a few more things that I wanted to put in there.

>>4 Dulled me a bit in the middle, but then again, it's kind of post-rocky anyways, so that's to be expected. Overall, I dug it though, I'll be checking more of these guys out in the future.

>>6 wasn't my style, but the video was....interesting(?) to watch.

>>8 Heard "I Don't Care" on the radio once or twice, hated it, but then again, I hate Three Days Grace, so that's probably why.

ON TO THE NEXT POST:
So, one of the reasons I like this thread in comparison to the review thread I made is that the review thread requires multiple listens to actually, well....review. Here, if we discover something, we can post our first reactions to it, however insignificant or what not, since you never know, someone may listen. This is where discovering 2012 releases will probably come in handy in the future.

As for me, I have an account on the renowned music community of sputnikmusic.com though I'm not a common name over there. I mainly use it to rank the stuff I know, and find out about new releases and old classics alike. That's where I got my first taste of The Antlers this morning. Their new EP Undersea was being featured on the front page, and I had nothing better to do but check it out.

I can't say I was super impressed, but I think I was going in expecting something false genre-wise. I had seen reviews and whatnot of their famous-in-the-indie-scene album Hospice and I hadn't even heard it. Probably should start there. lol
This was my first experience with the band though, and I don't know what specifically to call this in terms of genre, but it's hypnotic and definitely does feel weighted and underwater, yet light and sparkly. It's a weird type of soundscape I can't really describe, but it's worth mentioning, so I figured I'd make a little post about it here. Enjoy.

Back again. Much Props to Yata, for posting some pretty awesome tracks. I'm really digging "Comfort" by Cyclamen, and The track by The Antlers didn't really get my attention the first time, but I'm willing to listen to more.

So yesterday I went to get my XX record, and while there the store clerk recommended me an album by DIIV. I didn't know much from this band expert two songs, but I had the money so thought; Hey, why not.
I'll admit this band didn't hit me that much at first, but their was something about their music that captured my interest. They sounded a lot like Joy Division. So If you happen to like Joy Division, check these guys out.
my faves are; "How Long Have You Known", "Sometime" And "Doused"

Name: DIIV
Song: "Doused"
Genre: Indie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wq0eSujmfU

The album "Oshin" just released this year and blogs don't seem to stop talking about it. It's a pretty good find if your into it, but of course it's not for everyone.
Diiv is from from Brooklyn, New York and started as a solo project by Zachary Cole Smith, a guitarist from the band Beach Fossils in 2011. The project was originally named Dive, after a song by Nirvana, but was latter changed to Diiv. There isn't a difference to how it's pronounced though just spelling.
Anyway, Enjoy.

>>10 I actually really liked that. I'll be checking out Oshin this week, that was a good rec.

Well, I was going through some albums this morning, and happened to pop on Thrice's "Illusion of Safety." Thrice is my favorite band, and I've had the album as a digital download a while, but this past month I went out and found a new copy of it for just 3.99$ on sale at a local store. Of course, I immediately bought it, and was happy as fuck to have it in my Thrice collection.

Anyways, so after a play of it this morning, I was going through some iTunes playlists. I happened to click on my "Top 25 Most Played" and lo and behold, "Deadbolt" by Thrice from said album, popped into my #1 slot, surpassing "What's Up People" by Maximum The Hormone.

In honor of my 97 plays of Deadbolt on iTunes, I'm posting it for you to hear, here.

Heh. Hear, here.

Artist: Thrice
Song: Deadbolt
Genres: Post-hardcore, Hardcore punk, melodic hardcore,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaxcnNIRg9w

I've linked you a live version (from their Live at the House of Blues DVD) for three reasons,
a-Thrice live is like sweet holy Jesus, yes.
b-They added a special outro to the song live not present on the studio version which I totally dig
c-Deadbolt is a fan-favorite, possibly the fan-favorite among Thrice fans. Hearing the crowd holler with every word said is also like sweet holy Jesus, yes.

Enjoy.

My god! What happened to this board!? All I did was leave to attend a music festival for one day!

So anyway, My friends and I attended the Identity Festival and it was freaking crazy. 10 hours of nothing but electronic music.
Good thing we packed water, or we would have passed out from dehydration, and the non stop dancing. I'm in a lot of pain, so forgive me if this post seems lazy. I got into 4 mosh pits, and some crowd surfing guy landed on my head. That hurt like shit, but I was a good sport about it, so I helped him back up.
About 8 artist attended the festival, but the one I was really looking forward to was Madeon. I've been listening to him for a long time, and I couldn't wait to finally see him live.
(The picture above, is a picture I attempted to take of Madeon's performance at the Identity Festival. It's crappy, I know.)
So in honor of Madeon's amazing performance yesterday, The next track I'm going to show you is Madeon's new single; "Finale"

Name: Madeon
Song: "Finale"
Genre: Electronic, Electropop, House
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0h2u87JwyA

Hugo Pierre Leclercq, better know by his stage name Madeon, is an 18 year old producer from Nantes, France. He has gained a lot of his popularity from his video of him performing his mash-up mix, "Pop Culture" on his Novation Launchpad back in 2011. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out!
As I said I'm in a lot of pain, so today and tomorrow I aim to heal my sores. I have another concert to go to on Wednesday.
Enjoy.

Aw, man. Post rock is a tricky genre.

It combines so many elements, but often comes off, especially to people unfamiliar to the genre, as boring, pretentious, needlessly long, repetitive, and/or stereotypical hipster.

I prefer to think of it as cinematic.

Yes, post-rock is a genre I listen to when I don't want to think about anything, I don't want to feel confined to what the song tells me it is about. Since most post-rock is instrumental, it gives the perfect mood to wander off in thought about anything. It could be thoughts pertaining to the scenarios of life you're in. It could be in the mind of a character, one you're a fan of, or one that you're forming. You could sit back and listen and not think about a thing, just submerging yourself into the sound.

Any of the above will work here.

I found out about this band sgt. on iTunes and whatnot, I won't give you the details since they aren't important, but I downloaded "Stylus Fantasticus," their 2008 album, and it was a tricky one to digest.

Except for one song.

Yes, this wonderful penultimate 16 and 3/4 minute masterpiece known as "銀河を壊して発電所を創れ" just summed up every emotion I had felt up until that point. The track shifts through 4 or 5 different movements, and with it's electric violin wailing, solid and quick drums and smooth tone, it just immediately connected to me. In time, so did the rest of the album, but this song particularly is one of my favorite I've heard this year, possibly ever.

Artist: sgt.
Song:
(kanji) 銀河を壊して発電所を創れ
(romaji) Ginga wo Kowashi te Hatsuden sho wo Tsukure
(loose English translation) Create a Power Plant, Destroy The Galaxy
Genres: Post-rock, instrumental rock, classical(?)
Links, since nobody's put the full thing up as one video yet:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1SkoqWXjXE
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZlgATbQqQU

It's worth your time too.
But I shall not rush you.

See, post-rock is a type of music that you have to be in the right mood and lazy atmosphere to initially appreciate. Once you start to love it, you can listen any time, but each time a new act comes up, you have to experience it, not just listen. I find night drives or relaxing evening or mid-afternoon naps perfect for listening to this song/genre, but everybody will have their own opinion. So sometime, when you have nothing to do and you want nothing to do. Take a listen.

You may just like it.

Actually, I'll be personally insulted if you think of this as "hipster music" or some "shit." This is art.

Hey guys! Back again with a new track for you!
This next one comes from two producers from Ireland who go by the name Ghost.
These guys produce some pretty dark toned, ambient tracks. So if your into that, You just might dig this.
This next track is called "Grief And Sleep", from their latest EP; "Judge"

Name: Ghost
Song: "Grief And Sleep"
Genre: Electronic, ambient, IDM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTqquurcBs4

These guys are pretty cool. I just got done talking to them over Facebook, and they also give out all of their tracks for free.
If you like them, show them a little support.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Ghostsmusic
Bandcamp: http://ghostsmusic.bandcamp.com/

Make sure you either have high quality headphones or speakers or you wont get the full experience of this next tune. I played it on my friend's computer and the bass was no where to be heard, just the melody. It was pretty wired.
Well, that pretty much ends my post for today. I have a concert to go to tomorrow, and I won't reveal who it is until a later post.

Later!

So I'm starting this band and shit.
Or something of the sort. I know I've posted this somewhere by now, probably two or three times, but for those that don't know, I play guitar and sing. I've wrote about 12 songs, that is to say, a full-length release worth of material, and I'm hoping to meet some more musicians in my school and record this shit by the end of 2012.

So this is kind of a self-advertisement of sorts, but I don't have any of the songs for said album recorded yet. I do, however, have this:

Artist: The Heist Revenge (this is my solo moniker, since I'm not fond of songwriter names as an artist names, and because this is the internet and I'm 15. I learned my lesson the hard way when Nae somehow found me on Facebook. Blast her creepy stalker guts.)
Song: Untitled Demo #whatever
Genre: I don't really know, just alt/rock, I guess?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulveMAme-AM

This is a little instrumental idea that came together in my head with that beat, and while it never evolved into a full song, I liked the sound of it, and thought it would be cool to kind of give you a little taste of what I write in my spare time. So here you go. You can look forward to more demos and sneak peeks of my stuff as this year unfolds.

In other news, I could really use a haircut.

Hey everyone!
Dose anyone like M83? Well, I saw M83 perform live last night and it was such an amazing experience! I can't even fathom how great that night was. Out of all the concerts I've been to, that one will defiantly have a lasting effect. It was just that breathtaking.
I was originally going to see him perform earlier this year, but as soon as I heard about the concert the tickets were sold out. I was so bummed out, but I was ecstatic when I heard he was coming back.
It seems as though the only song people know by M83 is "Midnight City" on the album "Hurry Up Were Dreaming".
It's like people only listen to the "One hit wonder, or the only song that is played on the radio, and don't bother to listen to their earlier work or any other tracks. So I'm going to show you something else.
this next track is, "Teen Angst", from their album, "Before The Dawn Heals Us".

Name: M83
Song: "Teen Angst"
Genre: Electronic, Electronic Pop, Indie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMirdNSKbho

M83 is a led by french musician Anthony Gonzalez. Who started the project in 2001. M83's music is so beautifully composed. The extensive use of reverb effects and often softly-spoken lyrics at times submerged in instrumentation.
Enjoy.

Hey guys!
The next track I'm going to show you is by a band called BATS, and it actually pretty old.
I remember rocking out to this band my sophomore year in high school.
Almost everyone around me was completely oblivious to this band. Which doesn't surprise me that much, since I did find the guys in the deepest depths of the internet.
BATS is a post-punk/math-rock band from Ireland that formed in 2007. Their lyrics seem to be heavily based on scientific terms. Which I think is pretty freaking cool.
Next up is "Shadow Fucking" by BATS; From their album, "Red In Tooth & Claw" (Great album by the way.)

Name: BATS
Song: "Shadow Fucking"
Genre: Post-punk, Post-hardcore, Math rock, Progressive rock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypXT4-_pkmc

Turns out these guys also have a new album out. Awesome! I'm about to check that out now!
Later!

Oh wow, I've heard of these guys but never taken a good listen.
That shit was awesome, brotha.

The video itself was.....uh......hold on, it may take me a few hundred years to come up with a fitting adjective.
I'll get back to you on that.

---------------------------------

How you guys doing today?
*no response, because the music board is a fucking graveyard*
Good, glad to hear it.

So I hopped on SputnikMusic last night and saw this neat album art on the frontpage. I'm a sucker for cool album art, so I went ahead and checked out the review. Thus begins my experience with Cloudkicker. Cloudkicker is a one-man act from Columbus, Ohio. The mastermind behind the music is Ben Sharp, just a normal guy who writes music in his spare time.

Yes, in his spare time. Not for a living. He has his day job, and he doesn't write music with the hope of getting a record contract. Even in spite of that, the guy has worked up a lot of internet recognition between fans and other famous musicians alike, and it's easy to see why; he kicks total fucking ass. He plays guitars and bass, and though the drums are programmed, that doesn't take anything away from the music. All his music is available for download on his Bandcamp page. Since this type of thing is right up my alley, I asked was told to check out his most notable and recognized release Beacons instead of his new one, Fade. (Not that Fade is bad, but you always start with the best, am I right?)

And I know I'm repeating myself by now, but the guy kicks major fucking ass. Go listen to his shit, right now.

Artist: Cloudkicker
Song: "Oh, God"
Genres: Instrumental, Djent, Math Metal, Prog Metal

Look at that fucker. That fucker is solving a RUBIK'S CUBE. You can't beat that shit. You just can't.

>>20 Cloudkicker? Wow, fucking epic. I'm interested in listening to more from this guy!

The next track comes to you from the Mercury Prize-winning band, From London, UK; The XX.
By the way, does anyone here even like The XX? How could you not? HOW!?
Anyway, I meant to make a post on The XX a long time ago, since I just recently purchased their record.
It took me a while to get into this band, actually.
I remember listening to them the first time, and they didn't exactly attract too much of my attention. But then a day later I decided to give them another listen, and WOW! I don't know what I was thinking at the time.
I guess it was because their music was something I wasn't used to at the time.
The XX has quite a unique sound to their music, Including; hushed vocal duets, emotive 80s guitar sounds, and low end frequencies to form their comforting tracks

Name: The XX
Song: "Intro"
Genre: Indie pop, Melodic pop, Chillwave
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ktYpaGVUe0

When I first got into this band, I had no idea they didn't have an actual drummer. turns put the drums are sampled on an Akai MPC500, I thought that was pretty cool.
This band actually started with four members but Baria Qureshi was dropped for reasons unknown. It's going too take a while to get used to, But they still make some pretty great tracks.
"Intro" is the first track from their debut album, "XX".
Enjoy!

I would like to introduce Area 11.

*Exact quote from their About Page:*

"Area 11 are a Bristol-based rock band, who are combining Western rock guitar traditions with Eastern culture to establish a new genre – Gaijin Rock! Taking their cue from the music found in popular Japanese animation, the band mix punishing lead guitar lines, synth hooks and soaring vocals to deliver a polished and upbeat sound, which is both familiar and unique."

I don't know how I found these guys, but glad I did. Their music is amazing. I listen to one of their songs repeatedly, it even gave me inspiration for a game.

But I'm back, finally.
Nice track by the way Name.

-------------------------------------

This next one is by the Japandroids, a Canadian rock duo from Vancouver.
These guys fucking rule!
So, here's the story; Not long ago I was in the city waiting for a friend and decided to explore some blogs to see whats new.
Then I stumble upon this. A freaking awesome catchy tune by a band I've barely heard of.
This band has suffered some huge down falls, and were almost on the verge of braking up, but made an excellent comeback their new album, "Celebration Rock".
This album is highly recommended by me, And I know it depends on your taste, but it's a must have in my book.

Band: Japandroids
Song: "The House That Heaven Built"
Genre: Indie, punk rock, Garage rock

As I said before this group is a duo and consists of Brian King (guitar, vocals) and David Prowse (drums, vocals).
I aim to see them live soon, I can't wait!
If you like this track, check out more from the album, I only gets better trust me.

Alright, the music board is going to shit, so I'm bumping this thread up with a little Dubstep.

This next one is by the British electronic duo, Delta Heavy.
About a few weeks ago I performed a gig and opened up with this. The venue was pretty awesome. Neon Lights Everywhere, and ravers in their outrageous outfits and glow sticks just simply being awesome and showing support during the set. The only thing that could of made it better would be if I had visuals, but I can't afford any at the moment.
By the next day I found myself in someone else's house surrounded by kittens.
(If your curious of what happened to me that night, read post 1081 of "Random Thought Thread: Part 3")
One thing I like about these guys is that they have very limited experience, yet they produce some awesome tracks.
Their genre usually tends to shuffle between Drum & Bass, Electro House, and Dubstep.
Quite honestly, I respect anyone who can experiment with different genres of electronic music and be good with all of them. Different genres require different approaches. There are many producers who attempt to change their genre but utterly fail at doing so.
These guys are a different and this track is a great example. At first it starts off as Dubstep, with it's slow but danceable tempo, but later picks up to into some awesome ass Electro.
I'm sure some users will enjoy this one.
This isn't the full track. It's really about 5 minuets long.

Band: Delta Heavy
Song: Hold me
Genre: Dubstep

(^I'm kinda mixing it up a little with this one^)

Mind the video. It's pretty wired. It involves zombie cats, shooting lasers out of there fucking eyes and shit.
I think it's fucking awesome though!
Enjoy!

Truly my favourite band, and absolute pioneers of Alternative Rock. This track is by Shinedown, off their fourth album, Amaryllis. This song is a true anthem, and a unique quality that Shinedown possess in their songwriting is ever-present, but even more so in this track.

Name: Shinedown
Song: Unity
Album: Amaryllis

With their uplifting tracks, and inspired lyrics, this band, along with a couple of others, helped me through a very dark time in my life. I'm fortunate enough to be seeing them October 29th of this year, and after seeing some live videos, it is probably my most anticipated event of the year.

Another one, this time from Canadian Alt. Metallers Three Days Grace. Hey all!
Back again, with a track by the female musician who has become a phenomenon in underground electronic/industrial music scene. Grimes.
If you haven't heard of her, then what's wrong with you?!
People need to quit listening to these glorified, radio, corporate sponsored, pop princes and listen to this.

She's absolutely amazing! Look how beautiful she is! And she's Canadian too?! I'm Canadian! It's like we were meant for each other!
...But seriously all fantasies aside, she is a full package. She writes her own songs, producers her own tracks, and also directs for her music videos.
How many of these mainstream pop artist do you know that do that?
I'm hoping to get her album, "Visions" on vinyl soon. I've already put it on my wish list, but of coarse this is just one of the many records that I'm trying to purchase.

This next track is, "Genesis". One of my many personal faves from the album.

Name: Grimes
Song: "Genesis"
Genre: Synthpop, Dream pop, Experimental, Electro pop, Indie.

I was thinking about mixing this thread up a little. Posting remixes, and linking albums or singles that are available for free. Stay tuned! (If you were even tuned to begin with.)

Oh Jesus, the grammar in that last post. Dear lord.
Anyway, I'm short on time so I don't have a chance to listen back on the new links, but I will when I can.

I was skimming through iTunes a few days ago, and I ended up in this weird section of albums somewhere between post-rock, post-hardcore, and ambient, and found this. The Out Circuit is the solo project of ex-Frodus member Nathan Burke, and their sophomore album Pierce the Empire With A Sound is a strange unfolding gem of chill atmospherics and tingling eerie tones infused with the occasional raw nerve hit with post-hardcore screams and crushing distortion of space-rock quality. It's a very weird blend, and for the most part, it works as an experimental piece in time. I recommend checking it out if you have a chance. Here's my favorite track on it at the moment, "Across The Light."

A disclaimer before I begin:
I don't like double posting on threads like these.
I really don't.

However, there comes a moment when a song strikes you so much that it has to be shared, and whether or not you posted something last just doesn't matter. It amazes me that I can listen to a song and it won't strike my fancy at all on first listen, I can skip around with it for months or just not listen to it, but in one moment, you decide to play it and you can't possibly fathom why you didn't like it the first seconds it hit your eardrums.

Thus is the case with "Cedars of Lebanon."

Suited as the closer following up arena-rocker "Breathe" on U2's most recent (lol2009) album No Line on the Horizon, "Cedars of Lebanon" never really seemed in place. U2 has been known within their fan following for attaching depressing or dark closing tracks on albums filled with the catchy singles that made them millionaires (maybe they've passed that by now, but that's not the point) and why "Cedars of Lebanon" always just seemed like a minimalistic piece of writing to me is kind of hard to pin down. Songs with little going on for them musically either should be that way because they were supposed to be, or have some damn amazing lyrics to back them up.

So why the hell did I never really analyze the lyrics until tonight?
I feel so disappointed in myself.

"Cedars of Lebanon" is a song that works on the three levels of life; the political, the personal, and the spiritual. The song depicts a news commentator on site in the Middle East, who for obvious reasons, hates it there, and has some coming to terms with the fact that his home relationship is failing as well. It intertwines the three aspects with one another, and doesn't fail for a single line. With some basic knowledge of history in that area, and some other little references scattered throughout, the song is far more deep and subtle than it appears on the surface. I don't know how the hell I could listen to it for 4 years, but only really "discover" it tonight.

But I did, and I'm damn glad in that regard.

I'll end this off with the final stanza of the song:
"Choose your enemies carefully, 'cause they will define you
Make them interesting 'cause in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning but when your story ends
Gonna last with you longer than your friends"

True, and it sends fucking chills to my spine, man.

Whatever you might think of Seth Sentry think again. Generally popular Australian HipHop is a step above the popular American stuff but Seth Sentry is a step up again. Combining raw talent, polished lyrics and a likeable personality he pops out songs about political awareness, tunes about how he loves his waiter and the one I chose, a track just exercising his lyrical style and putting into words his feelings about modern life.

I heard Panopticon recently a few weeks ago, and although I cannot pick a standout track or moment, that's because it all just flows together into a near-hour of soundscapey post-metal bliss. I know that they had some sludge influence earlier in their career, and I think that still shows, but for what it's worth, this album is a fantastic listen, even if not very memorable at first. "Wills Dissolve" is the album centerpiece, and contains a nice lil' riff. 'Tis good.

Song: Summer's Glory
Band: Alcest
Genre: Post-metal/Shoegaze, Black Metal (Early)

This is a band that a friend told me about a while ago when I asked him if there were any cool black metal bands to look into. I only just started listening to them a few weeks ago, and I have to admit, I wasn't expecting anything like this at all. I was expecting generic black metal. Instead, I discovered this wonderfully spacey post-metal band, heavily influenced by shoegaze and black metal, and yet not quite either, a combination I'd heard before, but not with quite this much epicness. Or happiness. I mean, we're looking some normally quite bleak genres here, but this band takes all of that, and somehow, makes it spacey and happy while still being very much metal.

The main man here, Neige, says that he gets all his ideas from an "otherworld" that he had "contact" with when he was a child, a place which he likes to call "Fairy Land." He intends for Alcest to interpret his memories from this world into music. Whatever you think of this, it is a pretty good summary of how his music sounds.

This particular song is off their newest album, Les Voyages de l'Âme, and the album is definitely their most epic release to date.

Bump. This thread deserves more attention than it receives.

Name: Agalloch
Song: Falling Snow
Genre: Hard to say. Let's say Post-metal, but with heavy folk, doom and black metal influences. Their style also tends to vary between albums.

I did not fall in love with this band instantly. It took me some times to fully understand the epicness that is Agalloch.
When I first discovered them, I knew they were amazing, but I didn't quite understand why. At the time, I had heard of post-metal, but wasn't quite sure what it was. I'd checked out bands such as Isis and Pelican, and I wasn't really sure what to think of them. I didn't really like it, but I didn't hate it either.

Agalloch was different, though. I felt like I had to like them, because to say I didn't just felt wrong. I knew the music was awesome, but I just didn't get it. The songs were too long; they didn't have any discernible structure, or sometimes even melody.

Then one night, it all just came to me. I couldn't sleep, so I was just staring at the ceiling and thinking, while listening to the album "Ashes Against the Grain." I'd already listened to it once, and my iPod was on repeat, so the album just started over. I was too lazy to change it, and I felt that I'd done enough thinking for one night. So I just turned up the music, and closed my eyes...

It was amazing. I was surrounded only by the music, nothing else existed. I forgot about everything else. It was just me, surrounded by this wonderful, whitish-grey nothingness. It really was fucking bliss.

The album seemed to go on for hours. When it finally ended, I felt like crying. I just lay there for a few more hours, because even after all that, I still couldn't sleep. I finally understood why they were so great, and it felt amazing. Agalloch is not merely a band that you can just listen to; they're a band that you must truly experience before you can finally understand it.

Zebrahead, is EPIC. Well, too me that is. At first I found their song "His World" when playing the 2006 Sonic The Hedgehog game, but I only played that song for days. Then I realized, "Time to get more damn songs," so I looked up Hello Tomorrow and Wake Me Up by Zebrahead, loved it, and played it until it was old to me. I then began to search for music, using 'Zebrahead,' and found Blackout. To me, this song was awesome, with the radio-broadcast like beginning, then the epic band bashing into the tune.

I think the song is suppose to be protest rock in a way, if you read the lyrics, it's most probably about the young of the world going against their corrupted government. All in all though, it's awesome. Don't have any links but you should look it up!

Name:Josip on Deck
Song:Anime Pussy
Genre:Rap
His song, Anime Pussy just brings me to tears. It's an account of a man who's stuck in his boring day to day life.People encourage him to conform to society and get a 3DPD wife, but he simply refuses.Angered, he goes on a quest to go to Japan and get some anime pussy. He shows his desire to find a suitable mate who shows compassion, love, and a 2D pussy.Josip frequently mentions his brittle mental state, discussing his obsession and how he can't stop thinking about anime pussy. His friend, Killa Karisma raps about his fetishes and his activities late at night. He carries a deep message in his short verse, telling people to live life to their fullest. Karisma displays the materialistic desires of today's society and his hatred of real girls who take advantage of kind-hearted people.Josip and Karisma both want to escape the judgmental society they live in and move to Japan, the land of the free pussies.

The song's music video is full of symbolism for the slowly decaying mind of those who are prohibited from getting anime pussy. The bright colors show their enthusiasm for a better world.Scenes with the computer screen showing hentai are symbolizing the "so close, yet so far" nature of anime pussy. Josip is seen carrying a Gameboy Color, as opposed to a standard edition Gameboy. This is due to the fact that he does not wish to join the society of colorless robots with no personality. Karisma wearing the Sonic hat while Josip wears his Mario hat is an example of two rivals joining together for a common cause.

Surely this is a piece of art to be remembered for future generations to inherit.

It's a song created by a DJ partnership of some people I know. Their music ranges from Dubstep to Chiptune and is REALLY good considering they just recently started producing.

There aren't any important lyrics except for the fact that they don't have any pancake mix, a serious and heartbreaking manner.

Hey all! Me again! I truly appreciate you keeping this thread alive while I was gone.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this community is that it's more then expected. It's not just a bunch of anime fanboys/fangirls or otakus, but it's a community filled with intellectual taste and culture. And this thread is a wonderful example of that. Keep sharing your musical taste with the whole community, get the more fans, make new friends, and just simply express yourself. Thank you.

Tonight, I really wanted to share something special and not simply say thank you leave you without anything in return. So next up is Running To The Sea by Röyksopp featuring Susanne Sundfør.

Name: Röyksopp feat. Susanne Sundfør
Song: "Running To The Sea
Genre: Electronica, Dance, Ambiant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ-26smj5Ds

It's been a while since I've done this so of coarse I'm a bit rusty. Röyksopp is an electronic music duo formed in 1998. From what I remember from these guys is that from previous albums, some of their tracks tend to be a bit minimal and others tend to be a complete hit! So I have mixed fellings over all for these guys, but this one. This one is different. For a while I was quite addicted to this song, and when I didn't listen to it I began just play it in my head. This track is pretty well produced on it's own but Susanne Sundfør truly made it complete. I also just go word that she teamed up with one of my favorite producers M83 for the soundtrack of the movie Oblivion. As much as I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, or have very much intrest in the over used them of the movie itself There is music by M83 in it (and also Morgan Freeman is in it ) so that's a good thing to me.

Name: M83 feat. Susanne Sundfør

As expected, the movie was complete shit but the soundtrack is something worth hearing but then again, It's M83 were talking about. I'm quite impressed with this though. I haven't heard anything from M83 since the release of Hurry Up We're Dreaming In 2011. It's good to know he hasn't lost his touch. Now I'm just waiting on info for a new album...
As for Susanne Sundfør I was never quite interested in her before hand but after a few listens I realized how stupid I was for ignoring her, he has an amazing voice an beauty to match.

Well, I wanted to bump thins with something good and original. "Why?" You may ask. Well, you silly human. I'm sick of living in a world where shit like Justin Bieber, Hannah Montanah, The Jonas Brothers, One Direction, and other shit like that is popular. This is mostly because these children are still to young to do with this new earned popularity and use it to write shitty love songs, do drugs, get drunk, get pregnant, go to prison, etc.

Since then, it has become my personal goal to listen to different types of music and share it so that the lesser known names may climb to fame and some people can get over this retarded obsession with songs that only use one line.

As a bonus, I'm bumping a useful thread in Music since it's gone to shit.

Name: SPG (Steam Powered Giraffe)
Song: Brass Goggles
Genre: Folk; Rock; Steam Punk; Cabaret

This was my first song by them, and my first opinion was, "Shit, that's a great voice." While I'm not one to buy music, they deserve every dollar that it would cost, in my opinion.

Something that sets them apart from other bands is the steam punk theme. The main artists pretend to be robots, and do a pretty good job at it. Each one does their make-up themselves, so that's neat. Their robot personality has a name as well as a story behind it, and they even preform more than just singing. Personally, this song is my favorite by them.

Honestly, I'm not too sure how I came upon this, but I don't regret it. Either way, the originality is something that the music business could use more of, and it shames me to know that a majority of it is filled with songs that I can't tell apart. Honestly, if I heard anything by SPG, I would instantly know that it was them and no one else, and this pleases me.

For more information on SPG, go here: Their Wiki page.
For a link to the song that I mentioned, go here: It's quite fun and happy.

Bumping the thread.
I've been jamming this song a lot lately.

The short-lived, British, mid-2000s post-hardcore/mathrock group started off their debut and only full-length with this track. Right out of the gate, a second or two of guitar feedback leads into an instant punch in the face of energy. The musicians smack you with ricocheting abrasive riffs and chords, complimenting frontman Toby Hayes' flamboyant thickly-accented vocals and eccentric lyrics. Working through passage after passage with dissonant poise, the song segues in a variety of sections, from the groovy full-throttle opening, the staccato riffage over "AND ONES AND ZEROES AND ONES AND ZEROES AND ONES AND ZEROES. SHADDUP COS S'OOOOOKAY," the gentler and subdued third quarter, and the final burst of energy that ultimately fizzles out with a crackly guitar duet bouncing from speaker to speaker. It may leave the listener floored upon first listen, but the more you hear it, the better it gets.

Supposedly you can download the track for free via the album link I gave you above. I bought the thing though, so :P

Check it, guys.

Song: Rent
Album: Diamond Teeth EP (via Resist Records)
Genre: Acoustic/Indie

"The 2009 summer transition of Costin-Neilsen from singer of hardcore band Dead Ends to acoustic artist Toy Boats mirrored that of his arrival into adulthood. Toy Boats cradles this season of youth with an aroma of hope, heart and a sense of purity that is charmingly raw. His songs are emotional yet avoid sallow self-pity adopted by many acoustic artists and exchanges the unnecessarily verbose with lo-fi simplicity. Enveloping the grace of a young Bon Iver and eliminating the agony of Bright Eyes, Toy Boats embodies a nostalgic journey where we are all invited, stopping to smell the blossoms along the way." - Resist Records

Artist: Films
Song: "Prayer"
Album: A Forbidden Garden

Films is a project consisting of some of Anoice's members and their second album A Forbidden Garden, which came out earlier this year in April is mastered by Kashiwa Daisuke.

Interested?
If you've heard either act before, you kind of know what you're going to get. A Forbidden Garden begins with a series of soothing classical tracks with ethereal female vocals, save for the experimental and driving "Lost Field" and its following interlude. About halfway through, the album sonically takes a darker turn, with a string of delicate and beautiful melodies weighed down by a simultaneously eerie and earnest sadness. This sound culminates at a point of perfection on the penultimate track "Prayer". A beautiful foreboding piano rhythm repeats with the vocalists' lyricless lines as the track opens, and it continues to build, adding in more elements. Through the layers, stirring and emotionally moving strings enter and a crackly static faintly scratches in the back of the mix. The vocals overlap, the song grows, seemingly infinitely onward until it climaxes on a spine-tingling final held-out note. The strings sink back and the original piano line finishes the song.

It is absolutely beautiful and sure to leave goosebumps.
Check it, guys.

Also if you like this, be sure to check out the group's music videos on Youtube. More will probably be added in the coming months, and they're artsy and wonderful to watch and listen to.

Hello friends!
Please forgive me, for I have not posted any updates in a while. I've been super busy along with recording our latest mix tape, and a remix album. On top of this I just got a new job after several grueling months of hunting since my old job got unexpectedly closed down.
But even when I wasn't busy, I must admit that I got kinda lazy updating this, and for that I apologize.

-------------------------------------

This next track has been stuck in my head for almost 2 weeks now, and it's from an Indie electronic duo by the name of Rebeka, whom I stopped listing to since my sophomore year of high school. (That's about 3 years ago)
I remember when their older single, "Stars" appeared in my music blog news feed. I remember listing to that track nonstop as well. But the issue was, when I wanted to know more about them, and listen to more of their material, I quickly realized that most of their songs were a bit subpar to me, or not as good as "Stars". Being utterly disappointed I stopped listing to them entirely.
But around last week, This appeared on my news feed, I was reluctant, but I decided to give it a listen, and holy crap was it amazing! They managed to send shivers down my spine just like they did 3 years ago. With a complete change of their image and a much darker sound, making me believe that these two probably took a note from their pervious works and strived to become better. And for that I applaud them to the fullest extent.
Well done, Rebeka. Please keep it up.

Next track is "Melancholia" by Rebeka.

Name: Rebeka
Song: "Melancholia"
Genre: Indie, Pop, Dance, Synth Pop, New Wave
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPbOr6RRk2c

Rebeka is an electronic duo from Poland, feating vocalist, Iwona Skwarek and producer, Bartosz Szczesny. Their sound is a blend indie pop and 80's disco using a combination of cheap vintage keyboards, and bass guitars. Their sound is not unheard of, but they way they go about it is definitely interesting and unique.
Like a cross of sounds from both today and yesterday, not trying to become the dominate sound, but aiming for middle ground. Especially in this tune and "Stars", I should say.

By the way guys, I know I have said this several time before, but thank you again for all your post. I know I started this thread, but it's all of you who keep it alive.
So again, thank you.

I generally don't enjoy stuff with synths, but this was pleasant. Her voice is just asdfghjklbeautiful.

And the vox reminded me of this:

Artist: HRVRD (formerly Harvard)
Song: "Flaming Creatures"
Album: From The Bird's Cage

HRVRD is a North Carolinian indie/prog rock quartet. After their debut release The Inevitable and I gained huge support from local bands and drew comparisons to Circa Survive, the group decided to branch out on sound a little more for their follow-up album. What we got was a dark horse candidate for the best album of 2013. Since From The Bird's Cage's release, this has just grown on me more and more. There aren't any ballsy post-hardcore epics to be had here, but each track is its own masterpiece. Even with varied instrumentation such as horns in tracks like "Kids With Fake Guns" and "We Never Shut Up About You", brooding feedback filling a suspenseful ambiance in "New Information" and "Old Nature", reverberated piano in the opener "Black Creme" and closer "Eva Brucke", and the jazzy organ in the track linked above, everything stays...and sounds...like one cohesive unit. Each instrument gets its moment in the spotlight, but none of them do so noticeably. This is a subtle album full of subtle moments that rocks your socks off slowly over time.

"Flaming Creatures" features some neat drumming and lead singer Jesse Clasen's hypnotically smooth tenor, as does most of the album. It's a slow burner, as most of the songs on From the Bird's Cage are, but they're all damn good slow burners, tell you what.

There isn't actually any blurbs about this band anywhere on the internet as 'Fakes Rule' is there debut release through a label etc but Ill have a crack at convining you to check these guys out!

Coming out of Brisbane, Sick People are quite possibly oing to be the band that shapes the future of Australian hardcore. There old school ethics and sound really gives hope that in our modern day, good and original music can still be written. After a few demos and jam tapes 'Fakes Rule' is there first recording out through a label (Urban Rage Records). They have been smashing the North Coast of NSW and the South East QLD area for atround a year now but big things are coming from this band. Fakes Rule is available for free from there Bandcamp page. Ok, this thread is my new favorite thing. ANYWAY

Artist: listen!listen!
Song: "On the Water"
Album: Hymns From Rhodesia
Genre: Indie-Folk

There isn't really a simple way to put this, but these guys are brilliant. I've been floating about the Houston music scene for a good while and have over the years become good friends with these guys, and even after getting to know them and pick their brains I still find this album absolutely unbelievable. This came out in 2009 and I still think it's the best thing the Houston local scene has ever produced (at least in this millenium, I can't speak for the 80's or 90's).

It's a concept album about f*cking Colonial Imperialism in Africa, based loosely off the diary of Cecil Rhodes, founder of the country of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Basically this guy founded Rhodesia off a sort of power trip and proceeded to f*ck literally everything about everything for a good while. He kept a diary in the process, and in it you can tell that he knew EXACTLY what he was doing to the land and culture and people. There's also some Freemason stuff riddled in there, and several of the songs are straight up reworked hymns that they've modified and made into full songs.

Highly recommended to listen to all in one sitting, as the album has a clearly defined progression, themes, and climax. Seriously, do it. It's awesome.

Song: "西南西の虹"
---Romaji: "Seinansei no Niji"
---English: "The West-Southwest Rainbow"
Artist: cinema staff
Album: 望郷
---Romaji: Boukyou
---English: Nostalgia
Genres: Indie Rock, Math Rock

Some of you will probably recognize the name Cinema Staff from the group's recent breakout hit "great escape" which served as the 2nd Ending theme for the monster huge (pun intended) anime Attack on Titan. Anime themes are usually good in context of a show, playing their part to build interest and provide some musical emotion both before and after the bulk of the content. However, when I judge anime themes, I tend to use different standards then when I do with songs elsewhere. Not because it's in a different language, but rather because its purpose as a song is different. They have roughly a minute and a half to get you ready for the show and convince you to rewatch it each episode.

So when I come across bands like Cinema Staff in anime, I'm quite pleased to know that all their other material can stand its ground even with me and my musical douchebag self at his most critical.

A quick indie rock song with some pop punk and punk influence, "The West-Southwest Rainbow" was one of the leading singles of Cinema Staff's second and most recent album, Nostalgia. To say I hadn't heard of the group before Titan would be a lie: I was well aware that the Gifu quartet was in good company with other math-rock and post-hardcore bands such as The Cabs and Ling Tosite Sigure, and the experience of this album still struck me quite strong despite its far more melodic qualities than either of those two acts. "The West-Southwest Rainbow" does everything a good song should do to break the language barrier; give a passionate delivery, achieve a mark of musical excellence on its own, and get stuck in your head. It does so with poise, and it certainly doesn't hurt that the translated lyrics themselves are great as well. That's why I'd like to recommend Cinema Staff, and particularly this newest album of theirs here as a discovery.

tl;dr: I'm not a weeaboo. This is fucking good. Listen.

Genre: Powerviolence/Thrash

These guys are a Powerviolence influenced Thrash band from my hometown in Australia, Byron Bay. They've been round for a few years and are slowly making a name for themselves throughout the country. Their music is aggresive, heavy, fast and their live act is ridiculously good. They often play live with two drummers and the synchronized blast beats sound amazingly tight. From what I know they sound like Infest meets Napalm Death, similar to Extortion or Mind Eraser. They have releases a string of Demos, Splits, 7" and one 12". They are yet to release a full length.
For fans of: Extortion, Early Trash Talk, Napalm Death, Infest, Mind Eraser.
Experiences Ive had? This is literally one of the best live bands I have ever seen. Their performance and the crowds reaction is incredible. All 5 or so times Ive seen them they have been better than the last time. Check out this band, if they're ever 'in your hood' you'd be a fool to to be there.

Artist - Pity Sex
Album - Feast Of Love Stream
Genre: Indie/Emo/Noise Pop

Description from Run For Cover Records:
Hailing from Ann Arbor, MI, Pity Sex specialize in foggy, lo-fi noise pop and fuzzed-out, blown-speaker walls of sound, all with their own midwestern emo subtleties. Situated somewhere at the convergence of Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth and Hum, the bands quietest moments are defeated reflections with plaintive instrumentals. It's loudest are desperate cries washed in searing, reverby overdrive.

These guys can appeal to most audiences, there is nothing confronting about them and they're very easy listening. There debut 'Feast Of Love' is absolutely brilliant.

Artist- The Melodics

Release- Paint Me Gold EP

Specific songs- Donkey Kong Suicide, Take Me Away

Genre- Hiphop, rock, electro, pop

Description- The Melodics are a band that are subject to massive variation within their music. Formed by hip hop artist, Grey Ghost, while wishing to pursue more cross genre projects; this band is his beautiful creation. Having felt that they have explored all they could, and not wishing to tire their music out, The Melodics finished up in 2011 with possibly their best release, an EP titled Paint Me Gold. If I had to describe their music, I would label it Electro, with a chunk of Hip Hop mixed in and a decent garnish of Soul, Rock and Pop scattered throughout their songs. Highly recommend.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan - "YT//ST" (2011, Paper Bag Records / Suicide Squeeze)

"Yamantaka // Sonic Titan is a Canadian experimental music and performance art collective. Formed in Montreal, Quebec and currently based in Toronto, Ontario, the group's core members are Ruby Kato Attwood and Alaska B, with supporting members including John Ancheta on bass and acoustic guitar, Ange Loft and Walter Scott on vocals, Shub Roy on guitar, Brendan Swanson on keyboards, Alana Ruth on lights, Daniel Ellis and Chase Lo as dancers and Aylwin Lo as a projectionist.

The group was originally conceived while Kato Attwood and Alaska B were art students at Concordia University, as an art project based around exploring and subverting the cultural signifiers of their shared Asian Canadian heritage; both are of mixed Asian-European heritage, and were previously members of the defunct Montreal noise rock band Lesbian Fight Club. They developed a music and performance style that incorporated aspects of Asian C-pop and J-pop, progressive rock, heavy metal and industrial music, as well as Buddhist philosophy, anime and manga, Chinese opera and Kabuki and Nôh theatre." (source: Wikipedia)

These guys are potentially the coolest band I've found in a loooong time. Very post-rockish, they've got a pretty cool mix of styles and aesthetics. They're also apparently working on a side-scoller indie game which looks like it could be pretty freaking sweet. Check out this release soon, they're new album is either about to drop or has already, so now's a really good time to get into them if you end up digging it.

Artist: Foxing
Album: The Albatross
Genre: emo/post-rock
Song: "Rory"

Fans of old school emo and post-rock, refrain from making your 2013 end-of-the-year lists for just a while longer. St. Louis quintet Foxing just released their debut full length The Albatross and it's pretty damn good. Did you enjoy releases this year such as The World Is A Beautiful Place's Whenever, If Ever and The Little Explorer's Siderali? If the former is for summery afternoons and nostalgic sunsets with your best pals and the latter for shimmery skylines of pleasant nights out, then The Albatross is for the bleak and lonely brisk autumn and winter days that can't end soon enough. Tasteful percussion backs the beautiful clean noodling and tremolo-abundant crescendos found on this brief 10-track, 32-minute affair, a grower for sure, but like many albums of its distinct (and growing) genre, sure to find a way into your heart through pure passion and relatability.

They sum up themselves quite well really: "Foxing is a band. Someday Foxing won't be a band." Keep it humble and join in when you can.

Song: Twin Size Mattress

Make sure you kiss your knuckles before you punch me in the face
There are lessons to be learned; consequences for all the stupid things I say

This song has a familiar repeating melody throughout the whole song which when paired with the lyrics makes for a sentimentally feelsy listen.

I'm not great with words so I'll leave it at that.

Senses fail (their older stuff, before Renacer, but Renacer isn't all that bad) is a great post-hardcore group.

System of a Down is fun music too.

I'm sure we all know (or at least heard of) linkin park. Not feelin their new stuff so much.

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! is a french pop-punk/easycore (I've heard it called that, not sure what easycore is) who does their songs in english due to their majority american following.

Yoko Shimomura, a FANTABULOUS pianist. You've probably heard her work; if you've played any SquareSoft/square Enix game over the past 15 years you've probably heard her handiwork.

The RZA aka Bobby Digital (pretty sure he's also Robert Diggs) is an amazing producer/rapper from the US. With deep roots in Wu-Tang, he has helped shape the world of hip-hop and rap as we know it singlehandedly.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is a ska/punk band who influenced modern Ska/punk music today.

We Butter The Bread With Butter started as a joke duo (if it wasn't completely obvious) but has since evolved into a band of at least four and gained quuite a bit of popularity over the past few years, both in their homeland germany and everywhere else in the world.

I might add more later

Hey all! Hows it going? And if you celebrated thanksgiving this week I hope you enjoyed it! This next track is an uplifting tune from German producer, Marius Lauber. Who goes by the stage name Roosevelt.

Personally I find this tune super addictive. It's the kind of sound that I always find myself in love with but I can't quite put it into words.
So without further ado, here is "Elliot" by Roosevelt.

Pierce The Veil
Genre: Rock, technically they are "post-hardcore" but don't really fit the genre
Song: My favourite song is Caraphernalia ft. Jeremy McKinnon (of A Day To Remember)

Background: Pierce The Veil is a rock quartet, originally formed by brothers Mike (drummer), and Vic Fuentes (vocals and guitar) the duo wrote most of their first album "A Flair For The Dramatic" alone. They were later joined by Jaime Preciado (bass and backing vocals ((he sometimes screams instead of Vic)) and Tony Perry (lead guitar). AFFTD came out in early 2007. "I'd Rather Die Than Be Famous", from said album, was very well recieved, included in a couple of video games. The follow up "Selfish Machines" spawned many fan favourites, including: Caraphernalia, Disasterology, Besitos, and Southern Constellations/The Boy Who Could Fly (the fastest song the band has ever recorded). Collide With The Sky was released in 2012. This was their first "major label" release. "King For A Day" was released as a single ft. Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens. Other well-loved songs include: Hell Above, Bulls In The Bronx, A Match Into Water, and Hold on Till May (ft. Lindsey Stirling). Vic Fuentes was recently featured in "A Love Like War" by All Time Low

Hey all! Back again. Let me just take a moment to say once again, how thankful I am for your help in keeping this thread alive with your wonderful shares. It's thanks to people like you, that there is a bit more color in this board.

This next track is "Shadow" from the Virginian band, Wild Nothing.
This is one of many songs that I've been meaning to post for a while now, but never got around to it. So I guess by sharing this, I'm sort of retracing my steps to the dozens of songs I was suppose to share a while ago. It was around the same time where I did nothing but attend concerts almost every night, sometimes back to back. The concert binge actually began with this band, so I guess I'm going in the right order, but It doesn't really matter.

Band: Wild Nothing
Song: Shadow
Genre: Shoegaze, indie pop, dream pop, alternative
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnRLPaYXvoU

Funny story about how my friends and I discovered this band. We actually came to the venue expecting the closer to be DIIV. (referred to in >>10) Usually when we attend a show, there is one opener and a closer. But turns out we didn't read to the full lineup, and got a pleasant surprise when we came to the venue.
And my god, these guys played a fantastic show. I was blow away. I instantly became a fan. I had to get a record, merch, something! But sadly I was out of money at the time, so I just settled for a digital download.
Out of all the great songs on the album, "Shadow" Has to be my favorite.

Enjoy.

I love all these suggestions, really great artists.
Name: Sigur Rós
Song: Hoppípolla ( their most famous song, but is also a very good song too)
Genre: Post rock, ambient
vimeo.com/3986821‎

Sigur Ros is an Icelandic band, and most of their lyrics are written and sung in Icelandic. The singer, Jonsi, has a very beautiful falsetto voice, and he also plays his guitar with a cello bow, which makes the songs sound very etheral and mysterious.
The song, Hoppípolla, has a very dream pop feel to it, and has been used on a lot of ads for various stuff, but I hope you appreciate it as much as I did.

>>97 Thanks. I'm trying my best to be a bit more active dispute everything that's going on. I mentioned a period of time where I did nothing but attend concerts almost every night in >>95, So the next few post might be related to that. Artist: Foreground Eclipse
Song: You May Not Want To Hear This But
Genre: Vocal, Screamo, Post-Hardcore, Touhou
Foreground Eclipse is a Doujin band circle founded in the spring of 2008 by Suzuori (Guitar and Bass) and Merami (Vocals). The line-up was later completed by Teto (Drums and Screams) who had joined in the autumn, and at about that time the band was named Foreground Eclipse. However, in early 2011, Suzuori left Foreground Eclipse. He has later been replaced by Siym.

They started making arragements of Touhou music in emo/screamo style in 2009, and also writing original songs.

I really like their latest album, Seated With Liqour, collaborated with Draw The Emotional(anoher Doujin circle created by Yuyoyuppe). Most of their arrangements are Touhou based.

Arist: Easy Star All Stars
Album: Radiodread
Genre: Reggae, Ska, Dub
Song: Exit Music (For a Film)

Once upon a time, a bunch of guys at a reggae label called Easy Star Records decided that it'd be a good idea to gather a bunch of their artists and cover a bunch of classic rock albums.

So far, they've done OK Computer, (Radiodread) Thriller (Easy Star's Thrillah), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (Easy Star's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Dub Band), and Dark Side of the Moon (guess which word they changed :P).

At this point, I'm listening to Radiodread, and it's the only one I've really heard, and it's so wonderfully chill. It's amazing how well they managed to do Paranoid Android and Exit Music, they actually turned two of my (comparatively, they're still great songs) least favourite tracks on the actual album into two of my favourites!

Finally, I can listen to Radiohead without feeling depressed as fuck afterwords!

Havent posted here for a while. One of my favourite bands

Artist: Cloakroom
Album: Infinity (Stream two tracks from it
Genre: Shoegaze, Stoner, Emo
Song: Sedimentary (In the link above)

From Run For Cover Records:
Cloakroom is a brand new musical entity conceived in the harsh rurals of north west Indiana. Doyle Martin, of disbanded pop punkers Grown Ups collaborated with drummer buddy Brian Busch and fellow Region native Robert Merkof. Despite the frantic, fast paced nature of their other acts, Cloakroom rarely touches on its member’s previous work. Instead they are found channeling the visceral vocals of David Bazan, laid over quiet ethereal guitar hums that slowly grow into pounding walls of sound, at times bringing to mind a more stoned, yet delicate Jesu. Undoubtedly, comparisons will be made spanning an array of genres from stoner metal to 90′s emo, but what Cloakroom have created with is a flawless conglomeration of sound that until now has yet to be heard.

The Unicorns - "Who Will Cut Our Hair When we're Gone?"
(Alien8, 2003)

HOW has nobody even mentioned these guys yet? I am in disappoint. With lines like, "drove up in my bone-cammarrow" what's not to love? Fucking seriously these guys are great. Too bad they got REALLY good press and went on a huge tour and argued themselves into fiery oblivion (I think), never to return again. This is what indie pop is all about, guys. Catchy as fuck, talking about ghosts or jellybones some shit, recorders and all.

(seriously though, fuck you, Innoculate the Innocuous is one of my favorite songs ever)

Busdriver is far from the typical rappers you hear on the radio. In fact, I'm willing to bet he's far from any rapper most of you have heard. His machine gun-like speed and accuracy, imaginative and rich lyricism, combined with a constantly shifting tone and almost random flow and delivery style would tongue-twist anyone. If you like speedy raps, experimental stuff, or just anything that sounds weird then check some of his stuff out.

Wil Wagner is best known for being the frontman of aussie legends The Smith Street Band, but just after TSSB formed Wil realised he was writing too many songs that weren't quite up to the standards for the band. So he decided to record/write/use the songs that weren't worthy for a solo under his own name. His songs are sincere, heart warming and catchy making it near impossible not to fall in oove with his edgy voice and song writing abilities.

Artist: You Blew It!
Album: Grow Up, Dude ( Stream )
Genre: Emo Revival, Indie

Stolen from Topshelf Records:
You Blew It! might be one of the last great hold-outs in the emo revival that took over the last decade. More sane than Algernon Cadwallader, less sonically-spacious than Cap’n Jazz, YBI! cherrypicks from 90’s emo and indie in a fashion that many have aimed for but few have achieved. These cat-loving, taco-eating dudes have been holding it down in their native Orlando scene since February 2009. Since then, they’ve had enough lineup changes to see something like twelve members come and go all while completing four out-of-state tours and a few notable gigs with The Get Up Kids.

They have two releases under their belts, including a self-released, self-titled EP in 2009 and The Past In Present EP in the following year (Good Friends Records). Their upcoming full-length, Grow Up, Dude, will be released in April 2012.

Hello all.

Sorry It's been a while I've been super busy with up coming shows, and collaborations.
We have a very big show coming up this weekend back at Indy Hall, with and impending partnership to become junior members of Good Behavior records. Pretty exiting stuff, but unfortunately also super stressful. The plan is to blow them away with our performance but there has been a lot of second guessing.

When I haven't been up all night working, I've been checking out some other pretty rad tracks. This one is "Black Seagull" from the Vancouver trio, Hello Again. Nothing but good vibes from this ghostly track!

First impressions // second glances at souls you'd think you know

ut my word is temporary residence of a minds eye.
Wandering, endless fucking trudge.

Artist: Code Orange (Formerly Code Orange Kids)
Album: Love is Love // Return To Dust
Song: Liars // Trudge
Genre: Hardcore Punk, Sludge, Doom, Emo

If you dont enjoy speed, distortion, feedback, strained harsh guitar and vocals and beautiful interludes read no further.

FFO: Converge, Full Of Hell, Harms Way, Brutality Will Prevail

The band formed under the name Code Orange Kids in 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It started out playing "really straightforward punk," but would eventually take their music in a heavier direction. The band found some difficulty touring in their early days. Because all the members went to various high schools in Pennsylvania, they were not old enough to play at some of the clubs and could only tour between semesters. Early self-published releases from Code Orange Kids included 2009's Winter Tour Demo, 2010's Demo 2010 and 2011's Embrace Me/Erase Me. Code Orange Kids released the EP Cycles through Mayfly Records in 2011. Code Orange Kids announced they signed to Deathwish Inc. in January 2012. At the time of their signing, the average age among band members was 18-years-old. Code Orange Kids have released their debut album, Love Is Love/Return to Dust, in October 2012 through Deathwish. The album was recorded in June 2012 with Kurt Ballou of Converge at his own GodCity studio. Commenting on getting to work with Ballou, drummer Jami Morgan said, "Kurt has made tons of our favorite records and we respect him as an engineer and musician immensely, as many others do. Recording for Code Orange Kids' second studio album began in February 2014 with Kurt Ballou. Speaking on the sound of the new album, Morgan said it would mark "a very new era for our band," and that, "It's different. A lot of the heavier parts are heavier and sometimes more obvious. A lot of the odd parts are weirder and a little more anti-social. Things are a lot more blended together. On June 5, 2014 the band released that it was changing its name from "Code Orange Kids" to "Code Orange," and will be releasing its sophomore album titled I Am King on September 2, 2014.

Interestingly enough, Code Orange have a side project named Adventures that Reba (guitar and vocals) fronts. Its weird seeing her scream and shout her lungs out for Code Orange and then sing for Adventures (an emo band).

Haven't posted on this baby in a while.

Song: "Phantoms"
Artist: Low Roar
Album: 0
Genre: Alt Rock/Indie Pop/Ambient

Low Roar is the current solo alias of ex-Audrye Sessions frontman Ryan Karazija. He moved from Oakland to Iceland to write and record this album.

It sounds a hell of a lot like Sigur Rós.

Beautiful stuff. This was a somewhat arbitrary track choice since 0 is a moody affair that works better as a whole than as individual songs, but either way, it's a really relaxing album to turn on and chill to. Reminds me of the better moments of Sigur Rós' Agætis Byrjun and other people have also compared to it Radiohead's Kid A and Bon Iver's self-titled.

Hi guyz.

I'm writing a fix and I need a recommendation of songs that are possessive to the point of creepy. Like "Toy Soldier" from Marianas Trench.

Here's a sample of the lyrics:

Don’t you want love
Don’t you want this
Don't you look so shocked
This was not the way I planned it
I deserve a little more
Wouldn’t you say-oh, a-oh, a-oh
(My love)
Don’t you want love,
Don’t you fight back
Know this will hurt less if you just submit so (love)
How bout a little gratitude
For what I say-oh, a-oh, a-oh

To-o-o-o-o-oy soldiers
I’ll follow you like
To-o-o-o-o-oy soldiers

They don't know you.
Not like I do.
Only you and I were meant to be-
Understand you
Just like I do

Only you and I were meant to be

Forever</i

One day you will
Learn to love me
One day you will
Thank me you'll see.
If I can't have you
No One Can.

>>155 this descended into a list of love songs that I personally thought were creepy rather than possessive to the point of creepy, but oh well...

The Front Bottoms - Flashlight. It's a breakup song, but you wouldn't be able to tell on first listen.

Please fall asleep so I can take pictures of you and hang them in my room
So I when I wake up I'll be like "yeah, everything's all right"

Good Charlotte - My Bloody Valentine.

Oh my love, please don't cry
I'll wash my bloody hands and we'll start a new life...

The Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore. Hardly obsessive love, but still fucking creepy.

It's you that I adore
You'll always be my whore
You'll be the mother to my child
And a child to my heart
We must never be apart

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking for more obsessive love songs where I can hear the lyrics clearly (Front Bottoms and Smashing Pumpkins are good music, but if you listen to Marianas Trench you can hear every single word he says; key to me writing this fic. I need to be able to hear the desperation and crazy in their voices. Good Charlotte was a bit too nasal-y. I only like "The River" they did with A7X)

Artist: William Bonney
Genre: Emo, Skramz

Merchant Ships and Midwest Pen Pals ex members came together and made this band. You can really see how their lives spiral out of control just a little more with each new project. With this specific project, William Bonney, you get the feeling of literally being William Bonney with their mid western like rhythm. Listening to their EPs is defiantly a journey that I'd recommend to people. These guys have a good time and don't take themselves seriously, but can still produce really great music.

Mastodon - Once More 'round the Sun

This thread needs a revival.

Alright, so me having not listened to a lot of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and also still being somewhat new to the post-rock genre, I don't really know a lot of the darker sounding bands in the spectrum. However, in a genre that often places way too much emphasis on being "inspirational" and really writing a lot of their music with that in mind, I find it refreshing when I happen across a band that tries something a little less cliche.

So here's Laura, an Aussie band that's a pretty recent discovery of mine. Their music is structurally pretty typical post-rock, but the real kicker is that is has a much more melancholy, depressing vibe to it than most of their contemporaries - Beat magazine (quoted on their bandcamp page, lol) describes their music as an "apocalyptic hymn, with its brooding lyrics and grumbling bass," and goes on to call them "spectacularly cinematic."

Name: Laura
Song: Radio Swan is Down Part 2
Album: Radio Swan is Down
Genre: Post-rock, instrumental rock, ambient

So yeah. Good shit.

Unfortunately, the hasn't seen much success in their almost 15 year life span - even now, they've only got around 7000 likes on Facebook. Their debut album Mapping Your Dreams is as of 2015 ten years old, but it's still mostly just an underground classic. By the sound of it, they've managed to get more success in Japan than anywhere else, take that as you will, and they've also supported a few major bands around their tours of Australia, most impressively MONO, Isis and Cult of Luna.
Still, it's a real shame that this band isn't bigger than they are. I really hope they do better in the coming years.

I dig this. Will check out more by the band when I have more time. /o/

As for "darker" post-rock, I think a lot of that depends on how one responds to the music. While I understand the connection between the genre and "inspirational" music (and agree with a decent amount of that), I still think the term to use would more accurately be "cathartic". Obviously more of the jam-rock and shoegazey types tend to play simpler EITS-style post-rock, but there's a great diversity in the best of those bands (so not EITS, lol) from album to album or even song to song. For instance, the reason I love MONO so much is because I find a lot of their most beautiful tracks to also be drenched in sadness, while still carrying more melody and intensity than bands that shoot for the "darker" sound and end up more in other genres such as ambient, post-punk, post-hardcore twinged post-rock, or classical. It's also clearly more emotional than the average post-rock band, which is a large part of the appeal as well. To me that's all a matter of how one feels the music.

While they're also more on the classical/ambient end, I still suggest you and anyone else interested in "darker" post-rock stuff check out Anoice. The Black Rain is one of the darkest post-rock-ish albums I know of - mostly because it's one of the few to elicit a totally different reaction than the "inspirational" kind you mentioned. Shit's just really depressing, but also not too longwinded or directionless. Highly suggest you give it a shot.

>>172 good song, I'll check out the rest of the album at some point.

I think I mentioned it to you in plug, my band's been trying to take on a lot more of a post-rock influence. My guitarist basically started listening to Mogwai and bought a delay pedal, and we've since started writing mellower stuff. His brother, now our bassist, likes ambient music and minimalism. So yeah, I had a really limited idea of what post-rock was until I start listening to bands like sleepmakeswaves and And So I watch You From Afar.
I guess it's really more of an umbrella term.

Against Me! Is an amazing band Fronted by the beautiful and talented Laura Jane Grace who see at the top. The bands main genre is punk but can be folky at time. This band has been around for a very long time so there is a lot of materiel to listen to once you get into it, all their songs are phenomenal, and I highly recommend them to anyone into punk or Punk Rock.

>>174 nice. I listened to these guys first album "Inventing Axl Rose" (or something along those lines) a long time ago, and honestly, I didn't think it was that great. Some good songs, but they were hardly a band I'd listen to frequently.

They did pique my interest again with the release of Transgender Dysphoria Blues, though, mostly because I'd been hearing about Laura Jane Grace for a little while when it was released. I still haven't gotten round to listening to the album in full, but I've heard a few tracks here and there. I'll try to remember to give it a listen.

This one came out a bit long.
Oh well.

Name: Tesseract
Song: Nocturne
Genre: Progressive metal, djent

Djent probably isn't a genre, but it isn't not a genre either. True, it was coined to describe a guitar sound and playing/writing technique, but it's become an umbrella term for bands that used that as a basis for their musical styles, and probably will be used for future bands who take influence from those djent forerunners. Tesseract is probably my favourite of those forerunners, as a band that built their music by incorporating it into their music and not completely around it.

Their first album One was a bit of a handhold for me when djent was starting to catch on. I sort of liked Periphery, and I thought they were talented musicians and songwriters, but Spencer Sotelo's vocals often just irritated the hell out of me, and it was a barrier that was hard for me to get over. But when I heard Dan Tompkins singing over similar djent-y rhythms, in a voice that I actually found pleasant, it opened up a back door for that movement to grow on me. The ethereal, ambient tinge helped a lot too, and I started to see what it was that people liked about the genre - it was heavy, groove-oriented and somewhat proggy.

I sort of went through full circle and entered a phase in which I forgot about these dudes and thought Periphery was the ultimate "djent" band. I realise now how wrong I was - especially with my recent purchase of their second album "Altered State," where the above song is from, and Tesseract definitely takes that crown for me now.

Dan Tompkins left during the recording of the album (and subsequently returned shortly after), but their short-lived new vocalist Ashe O'hara helped to further the ambient atmosphere that was present on one. The album also lacks screaming, and is more hook-oriented vocally, which actually works really well for them.

And that's all I have to say. Great band, I hope some of you listen to them and enjoy their music.

Genre: Alternative metal, progressive rock

Another Aussie band that I got into quite recently, Karnivool's sound can best be described as that of one of those mellow synth-oriented nu metals band that at some point decided they wanted to be Tool. At that, they didn't quite succeed and I only love them more for it.

They're reasonably successful here in Australia, and by that I mean I knew them by reputation long before I actually heard any of their music. I don't know how popular they are outside of here, but they definitely deserve more success than they got. If you're into the track I posted, I'd highly recommend ou check out their album "Sound Awake."

So here's a band that's hard to definitively label. Essentially an alternative metal band, these guys meld styles in a way that is random and sporadic and yet amazingly fluid. A typical example of their style is that it fuses djent rhythm sections with melodic hooks and occasional electronics, along with these bizarre dub/reggae/funk sections that oddly manages to not sound jarring. Somehow, it all just comes together.

One of my first impressions when listening to them is that they sounded like Mr. Bungle, or for a better comparison, Faith No More. They manage to capture a similar kind of insanity without sacrificing catchiness or commercial appeal. They're a band I can imagine becoming pretty big in the alt. metal world, so I'm glad I managed to catch them live earlier in the year supporting another great metal band, Mastodon.

They've also got this weird comic thing they're releasing along with their music that follows, what else, a ninja. By the sound of it their lyrics take place in their own little fantasy world, but it hasn't really sucked me in to the point where I've really cared to check it out.
Might appeal to some people here though, so here's a free download of the first chapter (bundled with the above single, Mother Sky) from their website.

This band popped up on my newsfeed one day, and gave it a listen. I was blown away by the album the song is on (Tomorrow is Nearly Yesterday and Everyday is Stupid) and how existential it is without it being too over the top to sound like a 14 year old made it.

Apparently these guys are huge on /mu/ so I'm gonna reiterate some info. He's (James) from Manchester, England and isn't really all too good with a guitar in his earlier works, but he gets better as time progresses (much like everyone else with anything.) James does the guitar, vocals and lyrics and his friend daniel does the drums (chest drums I guess)

The band started when James got dumped by Eva Spence of Rolo Tomassi and he went all taylor swift except not annoying.

all his music is for free on his bandcamp IIRC but there's also a discography torrent if you dont like the site's download speed.

Song: Hitler-in-the-Box

A recent discovery of mine, I've been digging their album album "Alban B. Clay" (free download) for the last couple of days.

It's super listenable, but, for me at least, somewhat impenetrable. think it's some kind of rock opera, but I can't be 100% sure. To be honest, I can't make a lot of sense out of this album, even though it might sound pretty straightforward at first. The sound is so bizarre and yet so... not, that it caught me so off-guard the first time I heard it that I wasn't even sure if I liked it or not. It was mesmerising, but something about it made me feel a little uncomfortable. Still does.

I dunno. I personally have never heard anything like it. It's weird for me.

But that's my own experience with them. Actually describing their sound, I'd say that they're like an art rock band that got high and started writing macabre versions of carnival showtunes. It's weird-but-not-weird shit and it's awesome.

Check them out.

Y'know, if you"re gonna bump this, the least you can do is post an artist with the bare essential information.

Artist: Jeff Buckley
Genre: Alternative rock, folk rock
Song: Dream Brother

I've tried to write a thread about Jeff Buckley multiple times over the last week or so, but I haven't really been able to find the right words. So I'm gonna ramble. I only started listening to him recently, but there's something his music and his legacy that feels kinda... mythic.

It's not like his life is poorly documented or mysterious, but lets look at what we know about him. He was of a cult folk singer-songwriter. He was raised under a different name in different locations in Orange County, California. He honed his craft by performing in various Los Angeles cafes, and he drowned at the age of 31 after he spontaneously went swimming in a river in Memphis.

His music just adds to it. He only released one studio album in his life, with an incomplete second and a few live EP's released posthumously. He never had much commercial success in his lifetime. His voice goes up like an angel and down like a... angel. The music is layered and incredibly dynamic, his album is one of those great albums that just commands your attention and keeps it for its entire length. Every song is a classic in its own right, from the prog-rock feel of the opener to Mojo Pin, to sheer beauty in his immortal cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, to opera-esque in Corpus Christi Carol, to the grunge-y Eternal Dream. It all blends together perfectly. It's an album you have to listen to in its entirety to feel the full power of. If I could've linked the whole album up in this post, I could've. Picking the song was fucking difficult.

I guess that's it.

Artist: Alithia
Genre: Post-metal, prog metal, "astral space core"
Song: Sacrifice

So here's another great Melbourne-based band.

These dude's play a strange mish-mash of post-rock, space rock and avant garde metal that they've come to term "astral space core." Now, I'd usually dismiss making up weird genre names as a cheesy metal attempt at being "edgy" and unique - especially when you label your own band with one - but after seeing them live I've come to the conclusion that the guys in this band are not edgy core fans. They're just gleefully odd, and it makes for some great music.

This is probably some of the most fun pretentious/epic metal shit I've ever heard. It's always nice when a bands warped humour seeps into their music, especially when the music itself is supposed to be generally "serious." Take post-metal, for instance - when you see a post-metal band live, you expect smoke and a bunch of hairy guys in trenchcoats staring at their feet. These guys jump around, break their instruments and make wanking gestures to the crowed. And when they turn one of your typical pseudo-intellectual spoken word power-metal cliches into a catchy rap section without sounding like they're trying too hard, you know you've stumbled onto something truly special.

Song:America, For My Father

I'm not usually much for confessional singer-songwriters, or really lyric centric music in general, and most of the time I absolutely hate folk-punk. A lot of it is dependant on personality, and a lot of artists who are attracted to the genre are either too whiny, too boring, or too edgy, or not witty enough for me to enjoy.
I freakin love Georgia Maq, though.

Her music's personal and emotional, usually pretty simple from both a musical and lyrical standpoint, but confessional as fuck. Some of her earlier shit could easily have been diary entries that she made rhyme, and she usually goes full Wil Wagner and doesn't stop at the embarrassing details that any normal person would either cut out or mask with poetry. It's basically the kind of music you know she'd be embarrassed for someone particular to hear. It's kinda endearing. It's also catchy as fuck.

Check out her EP's for that tell-all confessional stuff I was talking about above. That's not a typical song by her up there, though. That's a fucking musical masterpiece, and I included it because it's my personal favourite.

That's all I've got.

Check out this awesome fairly new band I found on Spotify. They formed in 2014 in Mannheim Germany, they're German, And their first album came out last year in 2015. A new album was already released this February.

Artist: Beyond the Black
Genre: Symphonic Metal
Song: Unbroken

I was browsing through all the metal stuff. I didn't like most of them. (note: I'm very picky with music) That's when I came across Beyond the Black's song "When Angels Fall". I liked both the lyrics and the tune.

I found that I liked almost all of her songs and loved quite a few of them too.

I especially loved her emotional song Unbroken. You can really feel the emotions in her songs. If you're a fan of metal you'll like them, even if you're not you still might like them.

The lyrics: their songs lyrics range from good but cheesy to OMG.

The lead vocals: The lead vocals are beautifully sang by Jennifer Haben. I found her voice both dramatic and soothing.

Back vocals: Christopher Hummelses scratchy voice that accompanies her in some of their songs is nice, and really makes it feel like metal.

Instruments: With everything else said the most important part of metal after all IS the metal. I found that its very well done and head bobbing worthy (lol). Also I love how the music is the perfect volume, and not louder than the singer like most bands are today, lol.

Melbourne outfit. Released their debut Ecco Locale about a month ago, and I've been jamming it quite a bit since. First impression was that they reminded me a bunch of The Cranberries, with the wailing, repetitive hooks and the dreamy vibe, although the voice of half/cut's vocalist is thankfully much less irritating than Dolores O'Riordan. Production is also a lot more well-rounded, thankfully lacking that irritating Cranberries treble sound. The guitar tone isn't terrible and the bass isn't weirdly absent. Also the melodies are catchier.

In summation, they're better than The Cranberries. Check them out.

Genre: Psych Rock,Prog, Stoner

Causa Sui are a Danish Psych-Rock band and they're probably the best thing happening in instrumental rock today (in the vein of and up against Earthless and Earth). Their extensive back-catalogue, as well as amazing live performances put them at the headway of the new wave of psych that been going on this past decade (or two).

I was shown this band by a friend who runs my local record store when Euporie Tide came out, which is an absolutely fantastic LP. For those not usually interested by instrumental music, Causa Sui will NOT bore you - there are enough layers to keep your mind busy as it follows a winding path from start to finish of each track. Its very easy to get lost whilst listening to some of these tracks, I recommend not multi-tasking whilst listening - simply listen with decent headphones in bed (darkness helps concentration) and maybe smoke a little kush (if thats up your alley).

Notable records are Eurporie Tide, Summer Sessions Vol. 1-3 and the Pewt'r Session 1

Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian Rockband formed in 2001 and signed under Chad Kroegers production company 604 Records. They debutet in 2002 with their selftitled album “Theory of a Deadman”. Originally they had a song about a man committing suicide named “Theory of a Deadman” which they later changed into “The Last Song” while ToaD became their Bandname. Three years later they released their second album “Gasoline” where many songs became a part of the soundtrack of the Video Game Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy (“Santa Monica”, “No Surprise”, “Say Goodbye” “No Way Out”). Their most successful album to date, called Scars & Souvenirs, was released in 2009. The album title comes from a line in the Song “By the Way” ("Piled up from the years, all those scars and souvenirs"). Its second single „Bad Girlfriend" was Theory of a Deadman's first single that reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart. In 2011 they released their 4th album “The Truth is…” followed by “Savages” which was released in 2014. In 2015 the 5 song acoustic EP “Angel” was released.

I first discovered them when I played Fahrenheit and years later I found the song “Say Goodbye” on YouTube by accident and fell in love with their music.

Avantasia is a side project of the german power-metal singer Tobias Aammet, which came to life in 2000 because he wanted to create a Metal-Opera oncept with guest musicians since 1999. “The Metal Opera” Part I and II takes place in the 17. century. The story follows the dominican monk Gabriel, who takes part in the which-hunt and hast to deal with his inner emotional conflicts when his step sister gets denounced. Afterwards he released the Scarecrow-Triology (The Scarecrow, The Wicked Symphony and Angel of Babylon). The story ist nearly as defined as in the prevous work of him. It’s more about a random person who percievs and sees things differently than the average person and feels misunderstood and isolated because of that. Sammet most likely used autobiographical elements while writing on the album. In 2013 he released his 6th album called “The Mytery Of Time”. It’s about a young scientist called Aaron Blackwell, who is looking for coherences in Love, Pain, Desperation and Time. In 2016 Ghostlights was released and follows the story of the previous album.

Song: Sing Me To Sleep

Genre: Electro house, Progressive house

Alan Walker (born 24 August 1997) is a British-Norwegian record producer who was born in Northampton, England. He recorded electronic dance music single "Faded" and his song released on NoCopyrightSounds, "Fade".
Born in Northampton, Walker moved to Bergen, Norway, with his Norwegian mother and English father at the age of two. Growing up in the digital era, Walker found an early interest in computers which later turned into a fascination for programming and graphic design. In 2012 he started making music on his laptop, and with the help and online following and feedbacks, his songs soon caught the attention of the record labels.
His song "Fade" gained attention after its release on YouTube via the label NoCopyrightSounds (NCS). "Fade" was then released on a compilation album by NCS called Uplifting. The tracks "Spectre" and "Force" followed in 2015. Walker signed with MER Musikk under Sony Music Sweden and his first single was the track "Faded", a remastered vocal version of "Fade" by Walker and Degandartl (Vlady Bedi), released 4 December 2015 and featuring uncredited female vocalist Iselin Solheim. The song topped both the Norwegian VG-lista singles chart and the Swedish Sverigetopplistan charts, and was a top 10 hit as well in Finland and Denmark, with appearances also on Italian, German, American, English, Dutch and Irish charts. The song was supposedly in production for over a year. There were many delays with the song and the two videos, with Walker apologizing for the snags. After the song and the video were released, they gained worldwide attention. As of 23 June 2016, "Faded" has over 420 million views on YouTube. There is also an instrumental version of the song and as of 10 May 2016 it has little over 3 million views on YouTube.
On 24 May 2016, he released a teaser for his new song "Sing Me to Sleep", with the initialism title "SMTS". A second and third teaser were released during the following days, and the third teaser confirmed the release date of 3 June.

Song: Sing Me To Sleep

To be honest, I haven't heard of the artist before today but when I found him, I was amazed. I was listening to Spotify when he started playing. At first, I was getting lit by myself, enjoying his lyrics, the beats and everything else. But then his music took a turn and after my mini party, I was sad after listening to his song about his past which was filled his stories and him thanking his family. And then the party started once again. Not many artist can give you such an emotional ride in 30 minutes. If you enjoy rap, I would 100% recommend this man.

I don't know how known these guys are to be honest, but it's the only funk music group i've listened to, and I think it's really good. Oomph! is a relatively unknown band that I think are really great. Almost everyone who knows about them absolutely loves them. To start off this introduction, I'll say that Oomph! is often credited as the first band of the NDH genre. The most popular band of the genre, who you are more likely to know, Rammstein, has even credited Oomph! as an influence on their music. Oomph! has also worked with Apocalyptica (hope I spelled that right), and Marta Jandova, both of whom are mentioned in an earlier post on this thread. Their music actually has a variety of different styles and tones, from a more violent metal feel to a more wave type feel, which is why I linked 3 songs. And don't be intimidated if you don't speak German, they also sing in English, and have released an album with English versions of some of their most popular songs. They are also working on getting a song in Russian, with lyrics based off of fan submitted poems.

Album: Reflections of a Floating World listen here
Genre: Prog-Rock, Stoner, Psych/Doom

Im going to post the Wiki bio below with some basics about the band but first take a moment to listen to this amazing album that has just been released. Ive provided the link above, next to the title of this newly woven masterpiece. I've been privileged enough to see these guys twice now, and the second time they actually played the opener off this album. I'll keep this short and sweet, but these guys are so far ahead of everyone else its unreal. They're always a step ahead of their audience, and some of the tracks on here are way beyond the capabilities of most musicians across the genre today. Is it a prog metal record? A stoner or doom epic? I get hints of space rock and heavy-psych when I listen to it, especially my favourite track at this point in time - 'Sonntag'.

Elder just get better and better with age, like a fine wine. They've really come into their own I feel. Preceding Reflections is Lore, an album of near equal elegance and beauty. Every phrase and movement (or progression) is filled with such power and emotion, finished with musical technicality to knock the socks off your guitar teacher. Dead Roots Stirirng is their fantastic debut album, with a more desert rock/doom metal vibe on this one.

Wikipedia:
Elder is a three piece stoner rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band consists of members: Nick DiSalvo (guitar, keyboard and vocals), Matt Couto (drums), Jack Donovan (bass guitar), and previously Chas Mitchell (bass guitar). Elder have released three full-length albums since 2006 and have also released other demos, EPs and a split album with Queen Elephantine. Nick DiSalvo claims that Colour Haze and Dungen are "the bands that have really influenced the methodology or the philosophy behind the new direction". While Elder's sound is varied, but heavily based around rock and metal, Elder's sound could also be said to have been influenced from such landmark Rock/Metal bands including Black Sabbath, Sleep and Electric Wizard.

The band is composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew Murphy, drummer Dan Haggis, and bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, and has been since its inception. The band is signed to 14th Floor Records in the United Kingdom and Bright Antenna in the United States. The Wombats' albums have sold over 1 million copies worldwide."

Genre: Alternative/Indie

Oh boy, I love this band so much. They're really small right now and I would love to give them more attention. SOFT GIRL is based in Pittsburgh and they blend styles of rock, pop, and punk in their songs. Even though they put their full album is up on youtube, I still bought the CD and digital album just to support them. My two favorite songs from them is: Monster (From the movies) and Home/You. The song Home/You even has a music video with it that looks amazing and pushes their "pink" aesthetic.

If you're an anime fan, then you've probably heard of them before. However, not a ton of people dig into their core stuff. Not trying to sound hipster, but I'd LOVE for more people to really dig into their own stuff.

"While their music can be mostly classified as big beat or nu skool breaks with heavy jazz influences, they are famous for the heavy usage of electric guitars in their music, and the final product often has a strong rock or punk influence."

Debuting in 1997 but formed all the way at 1990, the duo Michiyuki Kawashima and Masayuki Nakano have been going strong up until October of last year, where unfortunately Michiyuki passed away after a years long battle with brain tumors. Rest in Peace.

This band is hands down my favorite of all time, and my two personal favorite tracks are 'Broken Mirror' and 'Snow'
The album I suggest is Embrace. Helped me through some tough times, and their sound in it is simply beautiful.

The song Youth is really good, you've probably heard it *Its been on shows*

I wanted to see this band for a long time now they pretty much got me through high school and pretty shitty parts of my life. They have a way of sparking my imagination and inspiring me. They give of a sorta anime OP vibe with their music, which is funny because their name itself is derived from a song by The Pillows which is the band that produced the soundtrack for the anime FLCL.

Genre: Post-Punk

It's one of the most beautiful bass-lines I know.

[WARNING: The song, "Killing an Arab", refers to the climactic scene of a (well-known?) french novel by Albert Camus, called L’Étranger [The Stranger], which deals with the Algerian struggle for independence. It's not a racist song in any way. (the guy who kills "the Arab" in the novel gets the death-penalty for murder in the end).]

Someone played this in the Chatroom someday, whilst I was stitching photos of my highschool moments to be played on the graduation ceremony. I haven't decided what song to pick as the bgm at that time, so I alt-tabbed from drrr.com and opened my video editor. As I listened to the musics played by the room participant, I was watching the video preview and photos after photos switching every few second like a slideshow. This song was playing and I couldn't believe how perfect it fits in, so I thanked that anon who played the music at that particular time and downloaded the song.

The video in the end didn't get finished, but some other classmate made a better version so we played that one instead of my crappy version. Nonetheless, the song permanently left an impression to me about highschool and the good old times. This was a few weeks ago, yes I'm a corona graduates.

246 Name: Matto : 2020-05-15 16:30 ID:IQmjq4qD [Del]

>>245 I usually just guess. It's not that important really. You see that I often post older stuff... I have no idea for example what genre the song Ocean from the VU would be (243).

Genres are often pretty weird anyway. For example, when Nirvana was successful, their songs would run under the label "punk rock" or "noise rock". "Grunge", as we would say today, was invented later to describe this kind of music.

247 Name: Matto : 2020-05-15 16:35 ID:IQmjq4qD [Del]

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aztw2s3PZzY
(Nirvana - Serve the servants)

Back then, people called that punk rock. A few years later, they invented the label "grunge" to slap onto all the Nirvana songs.

15 years earlier, we had those:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aztw2s3PZzY
(WIRE - Ex Lion Tamer)

That was considered punk rock too. Or... is it grunge? Or noise rock? Who knows?

Genres, or labels you can slap onto songs, are not that important. :)

I'm afraid I don't have much to say about this band/group. Their album cover rocks, this specific song is marvellous, and that's all I can say. I love Spain just for this one song. All their other songs could be bad for all I know, I would still recommend , because there is just no denying this song. I might have checked out their other work at some time, but I don't clearly remember doing so, so either it was really insignificant, or there's a chance that there's more hidden gems!

Anyways, I'm trailing off. This is a very slow, dreamy song. I would describe it as 'intimate'. That's the feeling it brings about, I think. I can't word it any other way. Listen to it when you're alone, and can put your mind solely to listening to this song.

It features two hypnotising guitars (I think), one oomf bass, simple yet brilliant drumwork, and one soft, gentle male singer's voice in which one can drown.
Oh, and the lyrics are very good too, they describe the mood of the song, and the mood of the song sets the scene for the lyrics, they go hand in hand.

Now go, and let yourself get carried away on those Blue Moods of Spain ;)

This Belgian indie band has little to no international fame, yet it really deserves it. I myself am not a big fan of the wave of indie hype that is crashing through the music industry right now , yet I can't the deny the brilliance of this band. They have 4 albums, each containing their own gems.

This song is from their third album, Thin Walls, and it is my personal favourite. The bass is simply amazing right off the start, and the rest of the song just keeps getting better, although it would almost seem impossible. The lead singer has a very specific way of singing, which I personally adore, but unfortunately, if you find it not to be your thing, you most likely won't like the other songs too.

But, give it a shot nevertheless! If you like this song, I guarantee you that you will find other gems that this hugely underrated band has on their record.

Enjoy ;)

This is the only song I know of this band. And, again, this single song is so marvellously good that I say that I adore the band, although I am only familiar with this single song. It's a quite recent song, from 2001, but radiates something very 80's, perhaps due to the electronic elements that the song features that are so typical of that so distint era.

The song features repetitive, yet very catchy (eponymous) lyrics that perfectly blend into the electronic instrumental backing, the combination resulting into a - on one side- very relaxed, chill song, and on the other side, a song you just got to jive to. The perfect blend of easygoing repetitiveness and groovy danceability.

Oh, and the song features a cowbell. Convinced yet? No? Just give it a try ;).

Yes, Matt is the haha funny YouTube man from Supermega, but his EP is genuinely good for a first serious attempt at making music. He created and produced the entire EP by himself over quarantine and it has been a huge success for him, gaining over a million streams in just its first weekend.
It's not what I normally listen to, being an edgleord who never got over his teen angst punk pop stage, but I really enjoy it. It is very relaxing to listen to and kinda inspiring to me.
It's no more than 20 minutes long, so I didn't choose a specific song from it, cause I think the whole thing is worth listening to!

Such a vibe, I met it thanks to the video-tiktok that "introduced" me to TikTok.
Basically my sister showed it to me and during that time I still thought that TikTok has no sense, but since I easily get addicted to edits and video with nice songs, I wanted to watch that video in loop without asking everytime my sis.
So I downloaded tiktok for it and it's literally the video I currently have as my first saved one, if I scroll aLL the way down the "favorites-vids".
I wasn't initially convinced by tiktok bc I didn't understand it but then I realized that you can have fun on it so I started liking it more heh.
But leaving tiktok aside, I now found a proper edit of some ppl I like n follow with that song again, so here I am posting it because it's such a cool song.
It makes me wanna lie down anywhere or just vibe a lot sigh.
Now let me droppp:
