First off, who are you, a new member, to come in here, and try and boss the other members around, or tell the admins they are doing a bad job or this website isn't what it should be? You need to STFU and sit the hell down before you wake the neighbors. IDK how many threads I have seen about us needed to get noticed, and how the people who aren't doing anything are just using this as a fan site.

Secondly, If all you want is to get noticed, then you are here for the wrong reason. That isn't what we want. Yeah, sure we help out and do good things, but its not like we leave behind a business card so everyone knows who the hell we are. There is such thing as separating business with pleasure, and if everyone gets wind of "how awesome the Dollars is" EVERYBODY AND THEIR MOTHER will want to join. The it is no longer unique.

Third: Who wants all the garbage that comes along with media attention? The you have people twisting us up, people asking if you are in the group and what not, and it becomes a hassle. This group is not even to emulate the one from the show. We are who we are, and if you cant get with it, GET LOST.

This website was created so we could better the world, without being noticed. The word dollars is even originated from a slang that means to "lay around" or "apathy".

Jeez, IDK..im just tired of this bullshit. Some member by the name of UnDecided texted me (after he took my cell number and countless others from the texting group thread and told us first not to post out cell #'s on the threads because of trolls and secondly because he is trying to recruit people for some group that actually wants to do stuff..and called the mission boards BS and pretty much dissed the job all of us were doing.

Look, UnDecided, I dont hate you, you just were the straw that broke the camel's back. And nobody else give him shit for this. I just used him as an example.

To me, it just seems the recent influx of members have been on this stupid publicity kick, and it needs to END.

I see what you mean about the "publicity kick," but from what I've read in UnDecided's thread, it doesn't seem like he's doing it for the glory or publicity. It seems like a push for a better way to do missions. I'm not implying that the Missions board is totally inefficient and pointless though.

My point is that Undecided probably isn't a good example to use. Of course I haven't read the texts he sent you for myself. Maybe you should include those too.

I appreciate that you're watching your words and all, but there's no need to be overly cautious what "senior members" think.

I agree wholeheartedly, of course, and that's apparent by how many times I've had to deal with exactly the type of person you're complaining about. Best case scenario is that this thread will nip that in the bud, but worst case scenario is that people will call you out on being overly critical and ragetastic.

For all those who would disagree, or say he's simply hating, keep in mind the difference between flat-out hating and trying to solve a problem. It's sometimes better to show irritation at what is actually an issue than it is to be laid back, taking a "stop hatin' bro~" standpoint. At that point, it's gone from altruism to ignorance, and nothing will get done with that vein of thought.

I digress, though.

I honestly don't know what's so hard to understand about all of this. People come here assuming we're going to be the biggest thing on the news, conveniently right after they joined. I understand that many joined after seeing what inspired the site in the first place, but even then they shouldn't expect the same sorts of things right away. They have to understand that the real world doesn't work like that.

On top of all of that... it shouldn't matter in the first place whether or not we're well known. I give so little fucks whether or not I could walk down the street and see people who know about us. I'm perfectly content coming on the site, knowing I am part of this community. Anything beyond that is simply a bonus.

It's simply shameless to think our primary goal would be to change that.

I'd really just settle for new members doing that. Or at least skimming it. Thinking for themselves seems like it'd be too difficult at first, if I base their current competency level off of the content we usually see (need to get known!, we do good deeds!, I'm from X, I like this anime on main!, etc.)

But yeah, what suto and Sejin said really. No need to be worried about whether the older members of the site approve of it or not. We don't really have a pecking order - We do have people who make more sense than others, and people who follow regulations better than others. If new members think when they post, and/or follow regulations (like duplicate threads, posting in the right board), then by all means they are just as important and worth listening to as anyone else.

On that same note, if an older member can't think or follow regulations, no one should give a damn about them.

There's nothing we can really do about it besides inform them when a situation arises. I 100% agree with this! Our objective isn't to get almost everyone on the planet to join the Dollars by posting posters with the website and password around our neighborhood. We just help try to make the world a better place without people knowing exactly who we are.

Even though I am in the middle of some of this and have certainly been a hand in stirring the shit in the pot, I agree. I have expressed interest in increased activity amoung the Dollars, but I have also expressed disdain towards publicity.

In a previous post, I opened a statement by listing off groups that would fall in line with what you have listed the Dollars NOT to be, which you are absolutely correct about. Those examples were in no way intended emulations; my thoughts were that these groups and organizations are taking action, according to their own agendas, so what would be our coming actions? A call to action, a rally, but certainly not a request for the public eye. I think pursuing recognition or attention is completely out of order and hypocritical.
I would like to see the Dollars becoming increasingly active, but I do not expect or hope to see that by going outside and looking around. In my opinion, it is perfectly in line when members state interest in more missions or increased good works, attempting to build morale and "rally the troops". The major problem is this desire for credit, noteriety, recognition and publicity.
When the any member of the general public takes notice of good works of the Dollars, they should not think the goodwill comes from us as a group, they should think the goodwill comes from humanity. The credit should go to the human race and restore faith in humanity.

I too agree with OP, people need to bring up more respect and perspective when they first come. There are too many people who just come here hoping they can be part of a movement and be noticed. The whole thing is that.......no. :3 I also don't mean to be horridable about things when I say that there really IS status among us Dollars, but it's true. I hope that someday the newbs will come seeking to learn from the regulars/senior members, and to then be able to help the other newer newbs. There really is status in Dollars, and I just want to touch lightly on that, because it has such great potential to be a very 'touchy' subject. :T

With that, I understand that Dollars has no leader, but everyone is the leader, yes. But people should start picking things up and understand that when you first come, no one's gonna care about you. So sorry to give such a hard truth T^T but it's true. Unless you start coming more regularly, and start making wise decisions among the Dollars and not just stirring up mischief, you're most likely not gonna get noticed or even be acknowledged, and if you even ARE noticed, it won't be for a good thing. Basically: know your place please, we don't want to boss you around like 'leaders' but don't come here expecting the perfect world and the status of a 'leader' because you won't get it.

I don't know how many times we've told people this isn't accurate. Even in the series, the Dollars weren't out to do good - They're based around just kind of being around.

Whether they do positive things or not was never part of the package. That's just a personal decision, which was taken upon the members as an alternative to participating in stereotypical gang behaviour.

I agree with the first post. I mean, I've never come across such a person because I'm fairly new here but this issue is causing anger in quite a few people. My point is that this is supposed to be a peaceful community. It doesn't have to be just new people actually, if something doesn't go according to your expectations then just bear with it or leave quietly. Alright so about the main discussion, going public defeats the purpose of being a Dollar. But if you crave for publicity and recognition so much then why do something under the name of Dollars? I agree with you completely Forte. Even so, I have an issue with you. You speak so much about the Dollars being a group that does good, makes the world a bit more positive; yet, I see you often calling others foul names, being very rash and rude in your comments, and severely bagging on noobs. Do those sound like characteristics of a true Dollar? As for noobs, stop attacking them with foulness and just politely explain the situation! If they don't want to listen, ignore them and move on. But more often than not, if you go at it in a positive way rather than bash, the end results are also positive. This is all just my optinions and thoughts on the subject.

Thread deletion must be done manually because each new thread generates its own file - The BBS is not a database that can be swiftly browsed and restructured. It is a Bulletin Board System. Deletion, as of now, can only be done by accessing the server itself VIA an FTP program.

The server isn't used for housing solely BBS' content. It seems rather simple to say, but in reality you would be giving access to several websites and their content to whoever he so chooses to "give the login" to.

You could suggest "only give it to someone he trusts", but they are not part of BBS and wouldn't have the time nor the familiarity to check it regularly - So it is inadvisable and discouraged.

The moderator interface which is available to BBS is something that was made from scratch to try and work with the BBS' basic structure. It isn't like the forums you think of where it is as simple as clicking a button and making someone a moderator with X amount of powers.

Everything must be coded from the ground up to work with the structuring of the site. Since it isn't exactly database driven like most PHP forums, a great deal of things you take for granted are unavailable - Such as thread search functions, "sticky" threads, and thread deletion/post deletion. These are the cons we have for utilizing the BBS system for its ease of access and general aesthetics.

There are reasons for why things are done the way they are.

I guess I must have missed those, but I suppose it can't be helped. As for how to distinguish ourselves so that other members can recognize us, I think something like what you mentioned could work or maybe something like a designated "flag", i.e. a type of marker doodle on your hand or maybe a specific type of bracelet or something. I know we definitely cannot use something like the Dollars logo since we could be confused for fans.
Then again, imo, for the most part, we shouldn't be letting even other Dollars, and potentially outsiders, know we are the Dollars unless established beforehand in such cases as meetups.

Hai. I'm in-between a newbie and whatever but when I first started coming on I noticed a lot of people who start being mean to newbs and it isn't their fault. They just joined and just cuz there is a section for all information doesn't meant they'll know what to do when they first get on nd second they only boss around sorbet feel not so new to it. Below was written in hopes of ending any arguments:

The DOLLARS website was not made to be a fan site. It was made in hopes that it would mirror its origin in both strength and good deeds. We should not, however, condemn those who would like to meet people and make friends here. They should, instead, be encouraged to complete missions. Members should also make an effort to recruit members who would be willing to create or complete missions for the sake of doing good. This site is a place for like minded people to gather to help not only one another, but also other civilians in need. We are not some almighty internet force bent on meeting some end. Rather we should be more like friends. We should all be willing to at least do a little for our fellow DOLLARS and we should encourage them to do good in the world. We shouldn't force those who do not understand to leave, we should teach them. We should try to bring in more people who can sympathize with our cause and who would gladly lend a helping hand. We should be work together to better ourselves and others as people. However, we need more members before we can be useful as a team. There are three hundred million people in the U.S. alone. I'm sure we could find more members who aren't looking for a fan site. If we could just bring them here, then we could start becoming more like a team and less like a random group of people who can't decide how the site should be run. I want to be able to randomly run into a member of the DOLLARS that I don't know and who I did not personally invite. I would be happy knowing the DOLLARS as a group had grown enough for that to happen. I would be even more satisfied if those I may run into were those who were attracted to the idea of a force capable of good deeds. A group that could assemble and disappear leaving only evidence of a good deed behind. This is my vision of the full potential of the DOLLARS. We could actually accomplish such things. This isn't just fantasy, we could actually be capable of doing such things. As soon as we are, I think we should do something big. Something anonymous. Something that people could only wonder about the origins of the event the very next day. If we get noticed, then so be it. If anything we can always utilize the password to our advantage to help filter out malicious visitors to our site. If no one finds out what we did, then we will simply move on to the next task at hand like nothing had happened. No thanks expected, just good deeds. This is the potential I see in this group. I truly believe it can be achieved one day through patience and cooperation. I feel we can really be a force of good if we all just lend a hand in doing so. We are the DOLLARS after all.

I agree with Forte, as far as I know anyone that has asked me "who is the dollars" I tell them to Google it. Its not my fault that you are some what deprived of information about the World Wide Web and anime, but once again and as Forte Stigma said this is not a fan site. I have been here since early August this year. i don't mean to be a pain or anything, but why would the majority be against having word spread; correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't it be better if we had more people coming into the cause. The site clearly keeps stating that it isn't a fan site; but it can't escape the fact that nearly everyone is here because of an anime. What if other people started bringing something different to the table, wouldn't that mean that we might possibly be making more of a difference. The fact that this site exists means that there are a hell of a lot of people out there wishing they could be making more of a difference, so why can't we help them in finding a way to do so. The main issue here seems to be the idea that more people coming here would be a bad thing. First up, i generally believe that more people want to do good than want to do harm; i'm not saying that more people won't mean more spamming or trolling, but i think the genuine people that would outweigh them. Second, i was kind of the opinion that this site was special because of it's ideals and aim; not because it was elite and only available to a chosen few. Yeah, DRRR is just a show, but weren't we created around those ideals? I don't think that the original creator in the show cared much at all about being 'noticed', he just wanted to make a difference, come what may. That's my take on the whole thing. I don't think that 'getting noticed' would be -bad-, like this post seems to suggest - I just think that maybe we should do more closer to home. Do good things for others, and let the rest happen as it or if it comes. Does that make sense? I dunno. I haven't been on long, as it said. But that's the reason that -I- joined the Dollars. I'm relatively new here as well, but I agree with what Forte said. We aren't some hero group out to save the whole human race, we do what we want when we want.
