>>28 What do you mean by a party con? If I am following the same lines as you though, I'd say that's largely due to the con's location at the Kalahari; In fact the location is probably a big factor for why things that are lacking (in my opinion) about it go unnoticed. Even is they are disappointed with the con itself subconciously, those thoughts would probably be waived off with the fact that they're at the biggest indoor water park in the US!
And what I meant with "by the fans, for the fans" is that the convention is basically driven by the fans that are attending the convention. CollosalCon is rather aimed 'toward fans', i.e. more of a service. I say this because the amount suggestions of panels, suggestions, eventsthat go unconsidered is really too great. They basically have a con board that determines what goes and what doesn't, for whatever their (likely money related) reasons are, without taking the effort of involving the proposer or fan community in general. I'm not saying that CollosalCon is a 'bad' con in any aspects, I just personally get more enjoyment out of conventions where I and others as fans/attendees can take part in the 'con building'.
If you would like some specific examples of what I'm talking about, I'd be happy to continue.
