Based on the suggestions in this thread, users would like to accept ideas for a fashionable symbol (other than the original logo). This may be used on jewelry, clothing, etc. to identify other members -- or just for fun.

These symbols should be two things:

1) unique. If they represent any other organization or are a popular design for other reasons, please do not recommend them. Be sure to look your suggestions up to make sure you haven't accidentally replicated something shady.

2) subtle. If they can be traced back to the site by anything other than a reverse image search, please do not recommend them (i.e. no drrr fanart). They shouldn't look obnoxious or call enough attention to themselves for someone to try that regardless.

This thread will stay open until users feel we have enough options to vote on. Then, we'll run a poll to decide which one(s) to use. Please post your symbol suggestions in the thread below until then.

Yeah, always loved that logo. I suggest something like that, could be used in multiple ways. Seems like a nice thing to use.

I like that logo. Simple and nice to look at. Maybe we could put it as a lock screen or something on our phones, or on some type of jewelry. I already use it as a lock screen and many dollars know this symbol, so if someone saw it I'd imagine they'd recognize me as a dollar.

While I like Kitana's idea, I don't find it that nice to look at and think it's kind of limited on its own.

My suggestion would be to extend that concept to any design with similar shapes and colors (i.e. the white circles/outline around a ring of white-teal-gold-pink-blue shapes). Like if you wanted to substitute the colored circles for triangles, or add a few more rings, that'd be fine.

This will give anyone who wants to do merch with it a little more freedom, and it should still be recognizable to anyone who uses the site and is made aware of general concept or the other design.

I'll make some example art of the variations in a little bit. In the meantime, other suggestions are always welcome.

Putting it on sweater cuffs might be a good idea. Not a too noticeable place but u are sure to notice it if u want to

I think having a more flexible outlook like that will be helpful with the "prettifying" steps that come later (when the high-res versions of chosen designs get produced and whatnot). It's hard to blend a logo into art without it ^^

What about like patches? I wear a patched up vest around and it'd be cool to have a Dollars patch on there.

I think the symbol could probably be put on anything as long as the Dollars have an official symbol that we decide to use for stuff like this.

Symbol design suggestions don't need to be directly related to the logo, by the way, though those in here thusfar are.

As awesome as BarabrSama's design looks, I think the logo should look cool yet simplistic. Maybe something someone could easily draw.

Yeah, I've sort of... gotten used to the pace by now. It's been only a few months since I joined and I can already tell. Lol, but I actually created and posted my design idea thing the night I joined.

im no good with art or drawing, but i like barabi-sama's idea, though i think you (the individual) should tweak it so no 2 are exactly, but it's still recognizable as derived from Kitana-san's original design.

I think we should use Kitana's oringinal design as a base. And everyone make they're own versions. That way it's recognizable but also unique to everyone.

I've actually had the discussion with a few local Dollars about identification, and we had the idea of two small marks, a Yen symbol (¥) behind the left ear and a dollar sign ($) behind the right ear.. it's not very noticeable unless you're pointedly looking for said marks, so it works pretty well imo.

But what if you have long hair? That's a problem that I have, my hair would totally cover up the mark.

Maybe if you had your hair pulled to one side sometimes or in a ponytail? Most of us here have shorter hair so it wasn't something we thought of. The marks we have aren't so much behind the ear as they are beneath the lobe where an earring would hang, about where that lower star is here.

I still feel iffy about marking ourselves like that. If anyone other than than the intended group of people were to notice, it would be kinda hard to explain away. It's just kinda inconvenient too.

Be careful writing anything on your neck/face, by the way, as many of those symbols / positions are taken already by violent gangs. You don't want to be mistaken as part of them and harassed by cops or rival groups.

I like the idea of a patch or something like it because you can put it on any article of clothing like a hat and not have a totally different item and it would be more convineient in my oppinion.

And personnally, I think we should officialise one specific logo, like Kitana's, instead of making derivatives. This would avoid any misunderstanding, as a white circle with colors and shapes inside it isn't a very distinctive logo and in the end, it would pretty much kill the concept of making it easy for Dollars members to recognize one another.

I think we should stick to the original symbol and should definitely make stickers or patches but maybe i could reach out to some etsy friends who make accessories and they could help make other kind of merchandise like hoodies, shirts, bracelets, watches, earrings, necklaces, ball caps, and gym/school bags.

Keep in mind with this suggestion that the D could mean anything, and a lot of people whose name (or relatives' names) start with D wear similar jewelry. It won't really help for identification purposes at all.

That was the point of my suggestion. We can stick to the basic rules of 1) a circle of dots in that color pattern 2) outlined by two white circles of the og logo. So long as those stay consistent, building beyond those details won't take away its ability to be recognized.

Out of all those suggested, I think I like Kitana's suggestion the most (>>15) which was slightly tweaked by BarabiSama.i think a simple yet recognizable look would work very well for us. I feel like a plain ol' "D" wouldn't really set us apart from the crowd. Instead one might think it's just the letter of your first name, in my mind one would associate that with the Dollars. I think the design that was suggested is colorful enough that it brings attention to itself but not so chaotic that it is distracting. Personal, I feel like the color scheme could be a little darker but that is just how I feel about it.

If we were to create jewelry and things to wear for the group they should be something that separates us from any other online group or any other sort of known brand. Tattoos may be good but one must keep in mind that not all of us are old enough to even get a tattoo or simply don't want to. I think we need something not so permeant but still leaves an impression you.

Sadly, I don't have any suggestions myself to make since I'm not much of an artist but I will keep watch on this thread and do my best to vote on which ones I think would be good and which ones I think would be bad.

what about something that everyone can make at home? That way, production, shipping and costs are all avoided. Happy for everyone.

Erusagi I think that design looks cool. It could possibly be a laminate sticker to go on your merchandise. Like a backpack or a hat. That or if people are willing to go further, it could be made into a bracelet or something of the sort.

I'd prefer that we not use any particular design too much until we have enough to pick a single one by vote. It's disrespectful to those who have or will submit(ted) suggestions.

this sounds like a great idea, like i thought about it and the symbol could be white, green, pink, and yellow loading dots for the symbol. bracelets, necklaces, and ect would sound great. but there are a few questions where would we get them, would we buy them on another site or would they be sent free to the members who want them. On a piece of spur-of-the-moment inspiration, after looking through this whole thread, I edited Kitana's design a little bit.
It includes a "D" for the Dollars, but also has the double circles and coloured dots inside.
It's not perfect right now, since I made this on a whim, but it's an idea.

Maybe we could use the same symbol we use for this BBS but change the text to whatever we want. The dual border is pretty distinct but doesn't look out of place and if you're unsure it's clear enough then you could construct the text out of circles like in the original symbol.

This may not be relevant to the topic of discussion but how do you run a poll on this site?

I just think thatd be easier on people to keep this idea loose and itd add an air of mystery to it. (not that mystery is important just kinda fun)

And on the note of "members will always be submitting new ideas", this actually hasn't been / isn't the case. It was a struggle to get submissions at all, and this hasn't ever been a big topic in the community, as most members just use the original Durarara!! symbol.

Yeah, some of us have personal symbols we use, but that's different than a recognizable logo being applied to the group as a whole (which is what we're voting for). You can still use your personal designs for whatever like usual.

Reuploaded Io's design because it died for a second. (Google really doesn't like that one lol. I think I need to compress it better or something x-x) Tell me here if it gets deleted again.

PS: If we end up going for a more flexible system, votes for remixes will also count towards the design they're based on. This is both to show respect to the original suggester and to provide the cleanest canvas for users to edit with. (This just means they'll both get the faq spotlight and high-res remake tbh.)

I also wanted to do this, but I realized it wasn't practical when I was making the form. There will be too many responses to take the individual opinions into account. By only allowing you to vote on one, we end up getting a list of the "logos from best to worst" anyway -- it's just sorted by majority preference instead of individual preference.

The only other practical option (IMO) was allowing voters to give a 0-10 score for each logo. But I was worried that would get time consuming if we got additional suggestions (and possibly leave us with more vague results in general). If we ever do a similar poll again, though, that system should be considered for those struggling to decide where their final vote should go.

It's late, sorry haha. Feeling better, files are done, just have to hit the library Monday to upload (there's too much for my data bill), maybe today if the weather permits.

There will be a new thread here in Suggestions w/ the results / stats / sample files, a thread in Art to archive alternatives, and a Missions thread for the example charity store(s).

^ that. This is also a volunteer thing, while the library trip means gas money. But it'll all be up soon enough. (I'd like to at least get the threads posted with placeholder links Mon/Tues, so all I have to do is upload the files and redirect links once I get up there.)

This matter was procrastinated on for years by the involved community; I think we can handle a few weeks of technical issues on my end haha. (Thank you for everyone's patience anyway.)

PS: The reason I'm not releasing the results without the files/etc in place is that I've seen too many users here get duped into buying really low quality POD merch in the past. Let's not repeat past mistakes / undo this whole process by rushing the last steps x-x

Ummm, I know you guys make it a point not to be copying the anime too much, but one of the main reasons the dollars were so interesting was because it was a "colorless color gang". Even if there are members around the world.... actually, especially since members are spread out in the world it would kind of be pointless to have an emblem to wear around. Honestly, the best part of the dollars is how much of it is up to interpretation. If you want it to be known that you're part of the dollars, it would make more sense to just get people who live around you to participate too, right?

Some people above discussed an issue with how people could wear this symbol. It can be distributed but there's also a pretty cheap and accessible DIY method of just printing the logo and making it into a badge:

So sorry for the lack of contact! Totally my fault that I let it go this long.

My internet will be back up in a few weeks, so I'll post stats & breakdowns of the other stuff then. (tl;dr it was a landslide victory for Kitana & users want some but not complete control over group/individual variants) Will try to get the HQ version up later tonight so y'all can go ahead with whatever you want to use it for. (Our data plan is beefier than it used to be thank jeb.)

Once the internet is up, I'll also post the other variations (I did a modular thing so users who aren't artists can still make variants for their groups w/o too much overlap) and update the stores & docs & stuff.

Yooo. So my internet is back up. Here's a folder of all high-res versions of Kitana's design. The related suggestion also has a folder. They're all 9x9 (inch) @ 600DPI (dots/pixels per inch). Haven't tested the colors in print yet.

There are three main color schemes for different uses: the original, a softer pastel one, and a harsher / more saturated one. There's a transparent / partial bg 1&2 / full bg version of each. I recommend using the transparent one for POD (they look best on products that already have a black bg).

Will be organizing things for a few days before posting everything else.

Regarding the site linked earlier:
Hosting is live~ Just need to get everything functional & decide on the base charity shop merch ♥ Will probably stick with POD items <$10 for now, plus whatever's been requested a lot / is fun to make.

But I can't decide if I want to write it in raw HTML or used an HTML5 game engine to write it in JavaScript with more interactive features. JS would speed up development a lot & make it much prettier, but it'll be hard to support mobile users w/o an app.

@247 JS by default is natively supported by web browsers and should have no issues with mobile devices. Not sure where you got that idea from.

Should probably stick to raw HTML as opposed to WYSIWYG alternatives since they usually produce suboptimal code.

Anyway, I was planning on aggregating multiple POD services into one site (meaning no transactions on our site, rather, we'd be using it to keep track of links & ship users out). But I've shifted my perspective.

I'm gonna start with one POD for now and host it from the site. If we get a lot of negative feedback about them or come across any problems, we'll shift to the next. Eventually we'll find one that works best for us, or reach a point where we can use a different production system.

I want to get the test run together this week. Just need to get the layout together and whatnot.

It should be the Japanese word for baccano because of the password and it should be on a translucent material so it's cost effective

I looked it up and it's long but you can just have all the letters occupy the same space to make a symbol only us would know...maybe not but you guys know what I'm saying
