So, I have been looking around the music board, and something has been bothering me a bit. It's not against the rules or anything, but it is just pushing the thread count up and up and up and up and... so on and so forth. Yet, half the threads aren't posted on.

A lot of people post threads for a specific band/artist. While there's nothing wrong with this, it still seems like it's taking up a lot of space. I personally feel that we should have X number of threads for specific genres. You post a comment about that band in the thread for the genre that fits it most. People may dislike that it's not their individiual band's thread, of course, but what's the point? Most of the threads get under twenty posts and die because no one feels like bumping them. And god forbid someone may decide to bump them. They would be the only threads on the main page and then some.

I feel that there should be something more broad for bands to be discussed in. Agreements, disagreements? It's my personal opinion that I'm sure people don't agree with, but I'd like to hear the arguement for both sides.

Yeah. I use it for the Dollars Chorus, so I'm on there a lot. There are only a few people, but those who do use it make way too many threads :/

I agree with this, but there's just so many threads currently about individual bands that it would be kind of tedious.

I'm sure it's possible to get it organized, but what do we do about existing threads? Repost everything, or keep it? The thread count can't be lowered without doing something like that, though we can start now if that's what you mean.

And what if someone wants to talk about that band in particular? There's a lot to be said about a single band since you have their entire discography to talk about, but I guess you're right when you say it doesn't actually go beyond maybe 20 posts on average.

And I should really start using that board more often. I like the Music board.

I honestly have no idea. I don't have the power to permasage or anything like that, so I can't really put any input in regarding what we do with the existing threads. And, yeah, if you want to talk about a particular band, why not talk about it on a thread with the same genre? I mean, what's wrong with that? That board is rather slow in general, so it's not like your conversation would be lost amongst the posts, and even then you could just use that wonderful thing called the, "Scroll Bar." Just make it clear what band you're talking about :/ I think it would be better to talk about a band with others who enjoy a similar genre and inspire people to listen to them rather than just make a thread that is going to get bumped off because no one knows who you're talking about.

If you discuss it in the genre thread, and a lot of people are interested, then you can make a separate thread for it? I guess that would work. Otherwise, though, I don't see the need to a new thread about every band.

I'm actually all for this happening. The music board has more duplicates than a $5 gutter whore has STDs.

There are certain duplicates that we have way too many of on the Music board, but that's beside the point. They can just get saged now. However, it would be kind of wrong to sage a perfectly fine thread without someplace else for them to go to discuss it, you know?

I do have a fair reason for necrobumping. I just had a thought concerning these ideas, perhaps we could implement a similar system, if this one ever comes to pass, for people with songs that they've shared for people to rate and discuss...?

I have an amazing idea. We put subjections in that thread (kinda like what's done on Main) for the more popular genres. Then we have a subsection for other. On that subsection, we have a thread for voting to put up new subsections. After a certain number of votes (let's say 150-500 since I don't know how many people wold actually give a fuck) it can be made a new subsection. In the Other Subsection, only threads for the less popular genres can be made, and you'll have to post about your band there. On the Main Music thread, you can only have threads like the one you mentioned you made. Each subsection can have a thread for just general stuff (For instance, the JRock subsection has a thread that's about JRock in general, then people can make shit about specific bands after that.)

I know it seems like a lot of work, but it'll clean it up for the threads that have nothing to do with a specific band. I'd offer to do it if I knew how. I plan on learning how, so I'll offer to do it then.

I don't really approve of genre subsections. There are too many genres, even if you do the main ones, and it would split it up way too much. It would also be a lot of work for Reltair, and I doubt people would pay much attention to it. A lot of bands are crossovers between different genres, so they'll probably get put in the wrong place. People making new threads will get confused/lazy and misplace them often, creating more work for the mods.

Soemthing else that bothers me. People shouldn't be allowed to make threads that say, "I like this and that" or some shit like that. There's too many threads talking about two different genres, bands, etc. The worst part is, that there's usually already a thread fro each genre seperately.

I still think Music has major issues. I wish we could just wipe the entire board, remake the good threads (not band, song, or album threads, but more like Firo's "Rate This Song" thread and the various discussion threads), make threads for specific genres, and re-do the board description to fit the new rules. Post your favorite bands in their proper genre threads. If they fit several genres, put it in the genre that fits them best.

If genres are too confusing, then what if we do music by date? Threads for the 60's, 70's, 80's, Early 90's, Late 90's, Early New Millenium (2000-2008), and Modern (2009-Current). Whether it be a specific band or a specific song, they would be shared in the threads appropriate to their era.

And I /still/ don't like the sub-board idea.

Okay, so here's my idea. We have one thread for all of the instruments (It seems like there are a lot of threads for a specific instrument and that's unecessary because most of them only have one post), and we have a thread for each genre (This is where people put the bands they like because many of the genre threads only have a few posts and many of the band threads have one post, but if you combine them then that'll give each thread more posts.). Think about it this way, do we have a different thread for every city? No. Then why do we have a thread for very band? Bands are part of genres just like cities are part of countries and states. That way we can have a Music Board Index to link to all of the different genres and the other threads (like instruments and anything else that would be put on there).

I don't know if any of you will like my suggestion, but here it goes.
I'm an advid discoverer of music. I listen to new music almost every day from multiple genres. I would love sharing my finds with people with people who have a true appreciation for music like I do. (Even though to be honest, I can't find much of that here.)
So I was thinking of making a Music discovery or music blog thread, and kind of diverse it into different threads depending on genre. Fill it with Images and some Information about the artist, or song. It would be cool others took part like Yatahaze or Chrome, and it will constantly be updated us, so there is no worry about it being bumped to the bottom.
Is that okay? If not that's fine.

I dislike the ide of ommiting band threads, even though they may not get a lot of attention, they do serve a purpose, and if even one person ends up checking said band out because of the OP post or comments beneath, I consider that a win. People actually looking on View All Threads on Music has improved immensely over the past few months. I haven't seen a vocaloid dup in forever.

I DO, however, like Xissx's idea about a music discovery thread, though I dunno how it would fit in with other similar threads on there. I would certainly be willing to put some stuff on it, though the "Music Reviews" thread I started up a while back may kind of override the purpose of the new one, from what I understand. I see no harm in trying it out and seeing how it does. Never know til ya try, right?

Let's not allow any of those "double threads" in Music. You know, those threads that are titled shit like, "J-Rock and K-Pop" or "Metal and Rock". I say this because chances are that one of those two mentioned, if not both, are dupes.

I've also noticed the mods ignoring that thread and allowing a lot of dupes to slide on in.
