Australian Rules Football (7)

Well, if you have no idea as to what this stuff is, check out this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bkJfZRRCy0
and read the page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Rules_Football

The game is played with 18 people on each team at a time. The players must get the ball through the opposing team's goal to earn a certain amount of points. Basically, a full-on goal between the two tall posts gives six points while a pass through a short and tall post gives one point.

There are a variety of moves used in this sport, including a handball which involves a clenched fist to punt the ball to the next person, tackling, kicking, marking the ball (in which a person who catches a kicked ball gets a free kick), and bouncing the football on the ground. However, despite all of these moves, a player cannot throw the ball at all.

Unlike other games, there are no real set positions for the players of the sport, but every team will follow some sort of strategy.

Now, what I'm really curious about is what you have to say about this sport.

If this is your first time seeing such a thing, tell me your initial reaction to the video I have showed you.

If you have seen this stuff before, and you enjoy it, tell me your favourite team, or your favourite AFL moment thus far.

If you don't enjoy the sound of this sport at all, tell me your reasons in this thread.

Okay, then. So let's start discussing some Aussie rules.

>>2 That is true about Australian football, so true in fact that you wouldn't really catch me playing the game. However, it's just so interesting when you watch it.

When you have time, you should see the video though.

>>2 Yeah that's true, its different to American football in the way that there is no protection, I mean besides mouth guards, and it's very tactical, lots of running around, throwing, jumping, tackling and what not to get the ball and get the goal.

I'm from Australia and it's so common, but Im not a huge fan, ive played it at school... But all I can say that's awesome in AFL is when someone pulls a 'speckie' when the ball is in the air and it's just about to be caught by a player, another player runs up behind and jumps onto the catchers back to get the ball. Gotta love the slo-mo replays of those...
Sry I typo like crazy.

>>6 Dude, WHO DOESN'T LIKE THOSE? Honestly, one of the best parts of a game.
