Freerunning/Parkour (213)

1 Name: Dainn : 2011-03-06 07:58 ID:prLBaEUK [Del]

Anybody else have an interest in this? I'll admit that I'm not exactly the best at it, but apparently I can jump pretty high and climb fast~

I just need to work on all that cool fancy stuff.
If you haven't heard of it, I suggest looking it up. It's a lot of fun and a great way to stay in shape. It's also been getting more and more popular lately. It's good to see the interest in this growing~
Maybe soon people will start opening facilities to practice in safely? I can only hope~

2 Name: Firo : 2011-03-06 23:27 ID:PlY33uRQ [Del]

my friends do this stuff. i just watch. i dont like heights as much.

3 Name: Dainn : 2011-03-07 01:30 ID:prLBaEUK [Del]

>>2
actually I hate heights myself, but challenging myself in this way kinda gives me a lot of a rush~

once the weather around here warms up I'll be getting back out there and looking for new places to practice.

4 Name: GenerousRaptor : 2011-03-07 20:02 ID:prLBaEUK [Del]

I want to practice and all but I'm to afraid to kill myself without one of those facilities.

I'm sooooo for learning everything tho! I'm up for losing this heights fear!

5 Name: Mitoushi : 2011-03-20 11:04 ID:/zsRHHUc [Del]

I'll go for it. Although, I'm not telling any of my friends, they might think my religion is Izayaism~

6 Name: Martyr : 2011-04-19 23:13 ID:ire2E9Yt [Del]

I enjoy jumping over things, and parkour might be fun, but people look totally retarded doing it. Besides, showing off is stupid. Its popularity started when Americans went on Japanese Ninja Warrior.

7 Name: Ekajra !Ly7MRw0CGU : 2011-05-01 20:13 ID:Jj0TiTPw [Del]

It seems I'm not the only amateur freerunner who's afraid of heights. A rather strange disadvantage in this instance.

Still, it is fun, though I'm really not that good at too much fancy stuff. Which technically makes what I do more along the lines of parkour, but I don't want to sound all fancy and call myself a traceur or anything.

8 Name: MatryoshkaLover : 2011-05-02 05:36 ID:b8bj1grF [Del]

I'd love to try parkour/freerunning! It looks exciting and a lot of fun XD I just don't really know what sort of places I could
practice it in :/

9 Name: Natsu : 2011-05-02 16:39 ID:1JA/G7QY [Del]

omgg i want to try parkour too but im scared to break a bone or two.. xDD

10 Name: akemi22 : 2011-05-03 07:15 ID:zoWIlzaz [Del]

>>9 me too...xD
I'm not that athletic... but I still want to try~

>>9
just start small. The most basic thing, IMO, would be practicing going into a rolling landing. Helps reduce impact by changing the downward momentum into forward momentum.
>>10
I'm not too atheletic either, but this helps to keep me in shape~

13 Name: blauherz : 2011-05-12 12:09 ID:7Va+XKWE [Del]

I'm also SO NOT IN SHAPE but it's really cool!
but around here is actually just green and no way for a city praxis (and i like the city runs more than the green runs :P)

14 Name: Shinku no Bara : 2011-05-13 21:03 ID:/g3jXWPX [Del]

LOL this was TOTALLY on my mind right now! Well, so far, I've only been capable of running on wire fences around my school.

15 Name: Pokjhdbnxw : 2011-07-07 16:42 ID:fzZdg9HM [Del]

It comes in handy on many occaisons. For instance (Running from police officers) Which I don't reccomend, but if you absolutely need to. And if your late for work, just hop accross a couple rooftops.

16 Name: Natsu !!ZcG5dW7i : 2011-07-08 18:05 ID:H8dFI016 [Del]

I tried it with my friend another day, it was so much fun =]]

17 Name: Pokjhdbnxw : 2011-07-10 03:17 ID:fzZdg9HM [Del]

It definitely requires a lot of upper body strength for most things.

18 Name: V2Blast : 2011-07-13 20:40 ID:LC07VAA7 [Del]

I think my main problem is that there isn't a particularly good place to practice around my university. Also, I am sometimes easily injured :P

But yeah, it's something that interests me.

19 Name: Pokjhdbnxw : 2011-07-14 04:34 ID:fzZdg9HM [Del]

I don't know if there even is a sort a facility based on parkour.
If anything you would use a gym for gymnastics.

And most people train locally around their towns where there is something to climb/jump/run around on. I'm not too sure if anyone would really drive a few miles to a good spot, considering that there's not really a physical gain besides excercise and maybe injuries.

But it's mostly for fun and excercise. But if you're really good; There are contests that you can participate in.
There was one that was aired on MTV a while back but I can't remember what it was called.

20 Name: Azure : 2011-07-16 01:21 ID:gRSuvk8l [Del]

Yeah i can do it. sorta

24 Name: BleepingSeauty : 2011-07-17 10:52 ID:7Z7CqL+S [Del]

I have a few friends who've started doing it. One of them tried to teach me how to run up a low wall and climb onto it. It was like seven or eight feet tall. I failed miserably, but it was still really fun.

25 Name: cgrilus : 2011-07-18 03:01 ID:JZLS0x8J [Del]

I've been getting into parkour myself, it seems very fun. :) I just wish I was a quicker climber.

26 Name: Miyamato : 2011-07-20 20:05 ID:GVtmzjDb [Del]

I like the principal of parkour and watching it. I condition and practice a bit but never found friends who were devoted enough to meet up.

27 Name: thegreatTQ : 2011-08-16 01:37 ID:iBCDSUzf [Del]

im very devoted to parkour in fact i have a team n we r still evolving but i think we will be ready to post n teach others about this disciplined sport :)

28 Name: Nightshade : 2011-08-16 14:09 ID:lb7OpGPj [Del]

I've seen how-to videos on youtube. They make everything seem so easy. But i know you need to have strong muscles before you can actually attempt anything

29 Name: Dami-kun : 2011-08-16 14:59 ID:kVElnwWx [Del]

I do parkour for like 2-2.5 years now....

30 Name: Uli : 2011-08-16 22:09 ID:7v3Ui6a6 [Del]

I've been doing it for a while now, there's also going to be a competition in Detroit soon. Link for any nearby Dollars interested in going to watch.

32 Name: cazuma : 2011-09-03 15:34 ID:eBAyDRcr [Del]

pk and fr i do both even have a jim near my called apk where me some friend go to train

33 Name: Xena : 2011-09-04 11:20 ID:H1ueSy5Y [Del]

I've been practicing parkour for about a year now, but no freerunning. I'm not very good because I have low endurance and I'm a bit scared of heights but it's really fun. :)

34 Name: Samy Takai : 2011-09-06 02:44 ID:WOnn0Cxd [Del]

I can do parkour but same as Xena I am a pussy at heights. Most likely i would get uo to the roof, then slip while looking down and hit my head on a fire escape.

35 Name: Janfel : 2011-09-07 16:46 ID:touchCjR [Del]

You guys got any tips on how to gain more stamina, i love parkour and freerunning, ive been doing it for like a year and a half

36 Name: Atsushi-kun : 2011-09-12 21:17 ID:9RDjmcz9 [Del]

Well for stamina, it's just the basics really, sit-ups, push-ups. Also there is something that we do in track that helps, lay flat on your back and keep your body straight. Then, lift your legs off the ground about six inches and keep them there. I remember when I first did it, it made my abs really sore, but you get used to it.

I can't really do parkour. Actually just to day, I was walking out of school and one of the kids I sit with at lunch did a wall flip off the side of the entrance, he's pretty good at parkour. And he's really fit, going into the marines.

37 Name: Taro Tanaka !PKt//nzxc2 : 2011-09-12 21:39 ID:9zpJnmYz [Del]

I've wanted to try it, but I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions on a good starting point?

38 Name: Atsushi-kun : 2011-09-13 17:25 ID:9RDjmcz9 [Del]

Well, you should keep an athletic to slim physique for it, cardio is extremly important and so is leg strength, core strength and upper body strength. You should probably practice basic things at your local athletic park.

39 Name: Taro Tanaka !PKt//nzxc2 : 2011-09-13 20:56 ID:9zpJnmYz [Del]

Well then, it seems like my first order of business will be to get stronger, cuz I'm weak as hell lol. Too many years just being a couch potato. >.<

40 Name: Atsushi-kun : 2011-09-14 19:14 ID:9RDjmcz9 [Del]

I understand where you're coming from lol. Before I joined some sports I wasn't really athletic at all. And now I'm a decently athletic highschooler ^^

41 Name: Hisoka : 2011-09-22 23:00 ID:hg+QwV3y [Del]

I would check out the Tempest free running academy. it's pretty crazy if you're in the area. sadly i've only been there once. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fouvwilGWc

42 Name: Taro Tanaka !PKt//nzxc2 : 2011-09-23 00:31 ID:9zpJnmYz [Del]

>>41 Cool video, but from the beginning all I could hear was Mario sound effects lol. And sadly, that's nowhere near me.

78 Name: ??? : 2011-11-28 00:53 ID:GD81VCeB [Del]

OMG I love Parkour, my old school is where I practice because its perfect for vaults and practicing rolling and cat grabs. Actually we have competitions where a text is sent out and we all meet up either at the Old airport or schools when the security is low. I compete in the vaults and the short speed courses. Its super fun and sometimes if your lucky you get to watch some really good people perform, you learn a lot. Does anyone else do these kinds of things?

95 Name: Tsuki-niichan !l5pc9DaN66 : 2012-01-10 00:42 ID:bBk0HK7Q [Del]

Parkour looks so fun!! >w< I'm gonna start by climbing the tree in the park~ I wonder, do you think bike riding would increase the lower body strength???

96 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2012-01-10 00:55 ID:48UTVYEB [Del]

>>95 Uh....yeah. Any form of cardio increases lower body strength. And you don't necessarily need strength as much as you need stamina and flexibility. Not to sound gay, but yoga and jogging would be more useful than riding a bike if you're planning to try parkour.

97 Name: BarabiSama : 2012-01-10 08:57 ID:nw18EU+C [Del]

I have the flexibility and the necessary lower body strength, but I need more upper body strength for the more advanced vaulting :V I'm not sure what kind of exercise would be best for it. Plus stamina. I have the least stamina of my group, so I really need to start jogging in my free time, but I feel like an idiot doing it by myself, but everyone has their own practice to do already.

So, yeah. Some advice is welcome if anyone has it.

>>77 Yeah, it does. I think I'm going to try practicing on the waterside of the town instead, or may be in the woods, because "urban" just isn't working out for practice between us and the officers at the moment lol

98 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2012-01-10 13:33 ID:xPNTekFh [Del]

>>97 Lol...I know this is going to sound lame. But try jump-roping. It increases your stamina by a shitload... I have to do 300 a day as a warmup during boxing practice, and I gotta say, not even running 8 miles straight exhausts me like that.

99 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-01-10 14:33 ID:CHpnd9gU [Del]

>>98 ...that is amazing. I can and will will try this.

100 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2012-01-10 15:19 ID:xPNTekFh [Del]

Also jumping jacks... strangely... Most things that involve repetitive jumping help increase your stamina by a lot.

101 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-01-10 16:14 ID:CHpnd9gU [Del]

Thank you, Mael. I'll definitely try these out...
starting tomorrow.

Aahh Parkour. The art of getting from point a to point b. Yes I do Parkour in that sense. Going to school, home, the toilet etc. But running and jumping around and all that stuff? I'm a natural :) I don't really do it though, but apparently my skills shows off in a good ol' fashion game of grounders. But nothing fancy like flips and stuff. I've been barrel rolling ever since I was in diapers. No seriously, I still wear diapers.

Parkour is great, when you live in the right area your really tempted to just jump around and eventually you learn how to use your body that way.
Exept for that moment when you break something... Awkward.

For those interested in learning parkour, look for groups in your city or near where you live, most cities and towns now have a few people thats train due to the growing community, and most have either a forum/webpage/facebook page. Its rare to meet people in who train that arn't friendly so its best to meet up and they will show you the basics

Hey all!
Parkour is one hell of activity. It makes your body harder, better, faster, stronger (daft punk reference XD).
Training is hard but fun. Discovering your limits and going beyond them. Expresing yourself through the movement and flow.
I was doing it for a year but stopped because of my injury. I made a jump I wasn't ready for. Its useful skill to know and maybe I'will start training again :)

140 Name: Roanokw !u4youLLrGs : 2014-01-22 16:57 ID:8PoX4BKw [Del]

Freerunning is the original (and the useful) version; 'parkour' is just about tricks and looking cool.
I do some freerunning

141 Name: Nordri : 2014-01-23 09:45 ID:m4wE6rjw [Del]

140
I'm sorry, but that's completely backwards. David Belle founded Parkour first, and it was all about efficiency of movement and getting from point A to point B. Then Sebastien Foucan (who trained with David for a while) started freerunning, and David continued Parkour. Freerunning is more about individual expression, and Parkour is efficiency of movement.

I've always wanted to try parkour, and with your tips I am once again considering to try it. Frankly, the only problem I have is how to do it without looking like an idiot. Since I'm gonna do it by myself it's probably gonna look quite stupid, so if anyone knows how to avoid that I would appreciate it.

191 Name: CeaseAge : 2015-06-17 16:38 ID:orvQc1hk [Del]

Well "me" the best way to avoid the feeling of looking like an idiot is to find a training spot that is almost isolated. Basically a place not many people pass by. But the best spots are usually the one crowded with people. So all I can say is find a good spot or just deal with the feeling of looking like an idiot.

You can practice just about anywhere. You don't have to learn the flips immediately. I found the best places to learn are parks, buildings and trees. That's just for the basics of vaulting, scaling and rolling. For flips, just go to a gymnastics gym and try new stuff.
