Well... I am just at a point in life where I just need to talk to people. Not about disasters and stuff, I just want to talk to people. Sadly though, can't find a place. Everywhere I look, I find people I do not want to talk to. In environments like school, that would be okay, but this is the internet. I need to find a place where I can talk to people without hearing about underfuck or shipping or how they hate themselves every five seconds. I want to have a real conversation. Is there any place where I can talk about things?
Well, what exactly do you want to talk about? What interests do you have? What are things you're passionate about? There are lots of places where you can have intelligent discussions with people. It depends what those 'things' you're talking about are. Because to 'just talk' well... chatrooms? IRCs? Those are some places. DeviantART has chatrooms of all sorts, I've seen some for programmers and developers for example. I hang around dA and CGSociety and other art-related forums because that's my interest. I talk to people there.
If you're looking for social interaction, it really is still better to go out there, join a club or something you're interested in, and meet people with who you share common interests and get along with. Then you'll have real worthwhile conversations. The Internet really isn't the best place for that TBH.

There's also the chatroom section, right at the top of the page close to the "Home" button. You can enter a room in in a matter of seconds, no login/registration andwithout having to download anything. I've been visiting them several times recently and so far found a positive environment, occasional spammer/troll aside.
I do not thing that the Internet is a bad place to find good conversations, but it seriously depends on luck I thing.
Everybody is interesting on some way, even people who talk every second about the miserable life, but it depends on you finding them interesting. Maybe interests aren't the worst topic to try to build up interesting conversations.
However I still think in depends if you are lucky to find a person in some kind of chatroom, you like to converse, I believe you should just try it out on some of the dollars chatrooms or any other website.
Just to comment on going outside is the best way to find someone like that; I do not think so. I mean you are geographically bound to some location and the chance to find somebody you like to talk to is a lot lower than on the Internet, where you can find anybody all over the world.
>>6 Ah, you're right in that respect Shoshan, that going outside isn't always the best. I meant it in terms of building a relationship with someone that isn't a once or twice chat sort of thing, if that makes sense.
