My technique at the moment is to keep looking at the picture every few seconds until I am no longer feeling like I'm going to panic. I didn't have a panic attack when I saw this photo actually (close call though...). Conclusion: I still think this is a good idea, but would you guys mind starting with spider drawings? Thank you.
Also, if any arachnophobes are uncomfortable with the existence of this thread please speak up!
>>2 >>6 I've tried the method mentioned above with real spiders and it did help. Pictures are actually scarier because they're close up. The purpose of spider websites was to get myself interested in them so that I might be able to partially override the phobia. Also, I know that avoidance does make the phobia worse. It's already an interference in my everyday life so I'd rather fix it now than later.
now I'm actually smiling a bit in between the near-panicking... that spider looks kinda like a cat stretching...
