if there is no afterlife, and we forget our memories, what's the point of living?

2 Name: Inuhakka !inb4CaTsQw : 2014-10-30 19:47 ID:ktowNjkf [Del]

To enjoy it while it lasts.
To help other people enjoy it while it lasts.

That's pretty much it.

unlike standard 21st century there's-no-point-besides-what-you-make-of-it philosophy, I DO believe in an afterlife, a purpose, and an inherent value for all human beings

you're right though, that if there is no afterlife and we just extinguish at death, then there really is no ultimate purpose to individual existence *shrug
BUT, if there is an afterlife and value to humanity, then life is overflowing with potential for purpose

Please take heart

There isn't any point but you're here anyway, might as well have fun. As the saying goes: "He who enjoys life, wins at life."

I adore Inuhakka's answer! I feel pretty much along the same lines. Except, just for good measure, I'd argue it's the duty of those with knowledge to record it and share it, and the duty of those without knowledge to seek it out.

alps, if you say you're Christian but are okay with reincarnation, your faith as a Christian could be in doubt.

“If I were to be totally sincere, I would say that I do not know why I live and why I do not stop living. The answer probably lies in the irrational character of life which maintains itself without reason.”

There's no point if you ask me, we just do it because we feel it's natural to live and we're scared of dying

How can you be so sure that there is no afterlife when you never been there?

To make the world go round. If even one person invents something every generation, then the world will slowly become more futuristic, we will travel among the stars and in the end we may just be able to figure everything out. Life is a regularely patched interactive game that developes according to the players. If you see it like that, as a whole life has the meaning of progression, whether an individual adds to the progress is dependant on the actions said individual takes.
>>6 You can be Christian without believing in the bible, religion is a pretty vast concept.
>>9 It is a theoretical question abiding to a concept without afterlife. Nobody here said that there certainly is none.

Personally I would much rather live like there IS a God and die finding out there isn't, than live like there ISN'T a God and die finding out there IS.
IF there isn't a God/Afterlife, then living like there is would only bring me some sort of fulfillment and hope, right? What harm is there in that?
IF there is a God/Afterlife? Well, I have nothing to regret :)
