I was in a rush to get my power bill payment in the mail today. I pulled my car into the post office parking lot, hopped out, and started quickly walking towards the entrance. Then I saw something green on the sidewalk. I looked down and saw a hummingbird laying on the concrete with her wings spread out. She was breathing slowly in and out but not moving otherwise. I squatted down to take a closer look. She appeared more stunned than injured and I wondered if she had accidently flown into the clear glass window on the side of the building. I was sure of one thing, though. If she stayed where she was for much longer she was either going to be accidently stepped on or end up as dinner for a stray cat. Taking the tiny bird gently in my hand I lifted her up, carried her over to the green grass, and with a few kind words lay her down.

I hoped that the camouflage of the grass would give her time to recover and said a prayer to God for her safety. Then I left her and went into the post office. The next day I returned and checked the area around where I had left her. She was gone. I smiled and imagined her flying happily around and feasting at someone’s bird feeder. It felt good knowing that even if I hadn’t done much, I had done what I could.

So often the things we do seem so small. What we don’t realize, however, is that every single one of them is important in the eyes of God. Do what you can then to make this world a better place. Do what you can to share the love within you. It can be as simple as a prayer. It can be as little as a hug. It can be as tiny as a few coins offered to help another. It can be as small as a kind word, a smile, or a wave. It can be as itty bitty as helping a hummingbird off the sidewalk. One of the sure things in life is that there will be countless concerns and adversity will visit time and time again. For those people who do not believe this fact, maybe it is only because you have not yet reached that point in life. Those who had had to face adversity, there are several things that we all have in common.

One of these commonalities is that each adversity can be viewed as a total setback, or as an opportunity to overcome the problem. There really is no other way to look at the issue. You either take the adversity square on the chin and fold, or you take the hit, keep standing, and find a way to move around the adversity.

If you try and overcome adversity alone, you can have a bad time of it bit if you turn to God as your first option, an option that gives you peace and helps you see the situation as different, you have a hope of getting through this problem.

Adversity in and of itself is not to be feared - it is only the lack of knowing what to do, how to approach it, and what view for the future you hold that presents a concern. Adversity is nameless, blameless, and devoid of any emotion unless you give it.

When you decide that adversity has no power over your choices, and when you put your faith in God, all adversities are no more than inconveniences that can be overcome.

Not everyone, unfortunately, has the natural ability to overcome issues of concern but with the power of God, there is hope in the form of friends or family to help you on your way. God did not plan for you to go into any situation alone and armed with his love and with your faith, you will be able to find those that will stand with you on this earth in the presence of God.

The other aspect of adversity that is known to those who have the ability to know they have choices is that each occurrence of adversity is one, if not, the best teacher about life there is. There is no life that sees only good times where there are no valleys of despair or hurt. Life is not a bed of roses without the thorns being active.

Take heed in knowing that adversity need not rule you for it is you that rule adversity armed with God and your given talents and abilities to overcome.

I was going to post this in the RTT, but I realized it was more acceptable here after I typed it:

Why are people afraid of being ugly when all it means is that you don't have cookie-cutter, socially accepted appearances? It's the same as being weird, and being weird has never seemed like a bad thing to me. Ugly people were born as a natural rebel to society. Be proud, damnit. Not everybody gets to be a rebel at birth.

Not everyone will see you that way. In fact, plenty of people will dislike you for it. You'll definitely lose a lot of dates because of it. But what're a few dates in the grand scheme of life? If being ugly by society's standards is who you are--if it is a part of the life you were handed--then you might as well embrace it, accept it, and realize in general that your own standards don't have to match up to society's. Some day, you'll even meet another rebel--beautiful or not--who frankly doesn't give a flying fuck about anyone else finding you ugly, so quit on this whole "I have to pretend I'm pretty by their standards to get a date" shit.

Yeah, we all know how some people look at you. Even beautiful people get looked at that way sometimes. And yeah, it does hurt. It always will hurt. But let's have some damn fun with it. Every time someone calls you ugly, laugh in their face. All they're doing is showing that their narrow minds are already brainwashed by society, already falling in step to society's tune - a tune which you, darling, were smart enough to walk away from.

I'll spare you my story. It's long, boring, and really rather depressing so i'll just get to my point. Pain and sadness are only hurtful when you let it be. Life is only hopeless when you say it's hopeless. All the pain and suffering you may be going through right now doesnt have to be a weighing you down, but fueling your fire. If someone calls you a loser, make it your job to prove them wrong by doing something great. If someone calls use useless, make it your job to do something useful. If a family member dies of a fatal metical condition, make it your job to help find a cure so no one else has to die of that condition. Dont just sit by and take whatever's been pushing you down, because that wont improve anything. Stand up and push back with everything you have.

Many parents are hard pressed to explain to their kids why some movies, music, books, and magazines are not acceptable material for them -- to see, listen to, or read. One parent came up with an original idea that is hard to refute. The father listened to all the reasons his children gave for wanting to see a particular PG-13 movie. It had their favorite actors. Everyone else was seeing it. Even church members said it was great. It was only rated PG-13 because of the suggestion of sex -- they don't really show it. The language is pretty good -- the Lord's name is only used in vain three times in the whole movie. The teens did admit there was a scene where a building and a bunch of people were blown up, but the violence was just the normal stuff. It wasn't anything really bad. Even if there was "just a little" stuff wrong, the special effects were fabulous and the plot was action packed. However, even with all the justifications the teens made for the movie, the father still wouldn't give in. He just said, "No!" A little later on that evening the father asked his kids if they would like some brownies he baked -- knowing they loved brownies? He said that he'd taken the family's favorite recipe and added "just a little" something extra. The children asked what it was? The father calmly said that he had added "just a little" dog poop. However, he quickly assured them, it was "just a little" bit. All the other ingredients were gourmet quality and he had taken great care to bake the brownies at the precise temperature for the exact time. He was sure the brownies would be superb. Even with their father's assurance that the brownies were of almost perfect quality, the teens would not take any. The father acted surprised. After all, it was "just a little" small part that was causing them to reject the brownies. He said he was certain they would hardly notice "just a little" bit of dog pooh he had put in the brownies. Still the teens held firm, and would not try the brownies. The father then explained to his children how the movie they wanted to see with "just a little" bit of bad stuff in it was just like the brownies. Satan tries to enter our minds and our lives by deceiving us into believing that "just a little" bit of evil won't matter. The truth is "just a little" bit of of poop makes the difference between a great treat and something disgusting, which is totally unacceptable. The father went on to explain that even though the movie industry would have us believe most of today's movies, with "just a little" bit of bad stuff, are acceptable for adults and kids, they are not. Now, when this father's children want to see something that is of questionable material, the father merely asks them if they want some of his special dog poop brownies? That closes the subject. Put the movie you or your kids really want to see to the ultimate test. Would you be comfortable taking Jesus with you?

I was blessed with my 1st son, David, 6 years ago; he is a wonderful boy. He listens to me and obeys me, whatever I teach him he never forgets, and he holds onto it like a treasure. So I felt impressed in my heart that I needed to speak with him more about the Lord, so that he can always have the fear of the Lord and the love of the Lord in him. When he was about three he use to be very scared of lightning, so I told him not to be afraid and that Jesus is in his heart, and that whenever he was afraid all he had to do was touch his heart with his hand and say "Jesus I love you and thank you for being with me." Ever since then, whenever David was scared I saw him touch his heart with his hand and then smile. Last month I was going through a lot of turmoil -- my husband had been laid off from his job for 5 months, we were getting financially drained, and I was totally confused and overwhelmed. So I put both of my two boys (I have a 6- month-old boy also) to bed and went into the living room, and was waiting for my husband who had gone to the store. I was feeling lonely and I just started crying my eyes out. Then I heard the bedroom door opening and I saw David walking towards me. I immediately wiped my tears and smiled at him. He knew something was wrong as he walked up to me and said, "Mommy are you alright? Are you afraid of something?" I said, "yes honey mommy is a little afraid." Immediately he took my right hand and placed it on my heart and said, "Jesus is with you mommy, He is always with you, don’t be afraid, He will take care of you mommy, and I will take care of you too." When I heard him tears of joy just flooded my face. I hugged him, and then I looked upward to Heaven and said, "Father forgive me, for I was NOT looking at my blessings, joy, and your security, but instead I was looking at the storm. Thank you Lord for being there for me." Jesus is always with you and He will take care of you. Next time you are afraid, just place your hand on heart and you will immediately know that Jesus is there for you. Remember Isaiah 43:5, where the Lord says: "Do not be afraid, for I am with you"

Don't aim to become an adult, but rather, your own person. Aim to become a successful individual. Base your idea of "successful" not on the amount of money you have, or how healthy your love life is, or the number of kids you have. Rather, base your definition of success on your own goals and dreams.

Don't be afraid of your imagination. Don't be afraid of your family's disappointment. Don't be afraid of being that one guy.

Make it your life's goal to become you want to be and not what your family, teachers, or society tell you to be. Otherwise, you'll lose your dreams and childhood and get lost in the polluted tides left over by the last generation.

Using logic simply means that you have the right to be wrong with authority. No matter what anyone says to you, you have something unique and special that makes you an amazing and incredible human being. So go out there and explore and create and build new things. It reassures and upsets me that as individuals there are only a limited number of things we can do on this Earth. In order for social, economic, and political change to happen, people have to gather in unity for better or worse. If people could take a look at the big picture and see themselves not as individuals but as part of one group then they will become limitless. In our history, great peace makers have come and realized that there are two types of people in the world. There are the ones that do and the ones that think. These full fledge humanitarians have been able to put together their extroverted and introverted traits in order to both think and do at their full capacity.

I'm still hurting and trying so hard not to break down every day, and I feel broken and empty, but I have a light. Thank you so much, EVERYBODY, for reminding me tonight how much I love my girlfriend, how much she's helped through, and that I can always smile for her and let it be true. Its not like I don't pay attention to the future. Or I don't learn from my past. But, for me living in the present is the best i can do right now. Does anyone understand?

I'm not a poet but this may help you out some situations. It helped me.

Gonna leave this one a little vague. If you've been through it, you'll know what I'm talking about.

With some things, the people around you will never be able to understand. No matter how close you are, or how much they trust you, explaining it to them will only cause them to be concerned about your state of mind - your welfare. They'll want to believe you and to trust you, but it doesn't come that easily. Those who have a higher understanding, or those who have experienced things that cannot be explained in their emotional, spiritual, or physical lives, find themselves wondering on their own about the world, its state, and its purpose.

Even if you have to keep your findings to yourself, remember that you're never alone. There are people out there like you. Everything that you see has been seen by someone else before and will be seen again by people in the future. It's okay to be scared. It's okay to be angry. Even if they seem like one of us, we're all very selfish and absorbed in our own standings.
