Actually on topic:
Actors are often going to be in such situations. They're going to have to play the part for the sake of the role, regardless of whether or not they (or anyone else) is fond of it. It's similar to many other jobs, really.
Parents usually don't want their kids joining the military for fear of the death of their child.
Friends don't want their other friends to take a job in the next city over because that means they'll hardly see each other again.
Same thing with actors.
There's always going to be these uncomfortable situations that you're going to be in with your peers and family, that's a given.
You already know the solution, however:
You've just got to deal with it sometimes. Accept that your friend may not even *want* to do such a scene, but if she wants to make a living she might have to. And even if she does want to do it, it's really her choice. The only thing you really should be feeling for her is happiness towards a brighter career, not trepidation.
>>8Oh boy.
It's understandable that comments that could be classified as complaints shouldn't be posted in the Random board, since we *already* have a complaining thread here:
http://dollars-bbs.org/personal/res/1331875337.html
The idea of any single user getting their own thread just to complain is absolutely ridiculous when there is already a thread to do so. To be honest, a LOT of comments on the Random board (and otherwise) could be categorized as complaints, and yet no one bothers to point them out because it's not frequent enough to become a hassle.
Now, there's no clear line at which point it becomes a hassle, obviously. It really depends on how often such comments are posted, and how much drama revolves around them.
So here we have this sort of invisible line where the rules of such a minor thing (redirecting to the complaining thread instead of propagating further drama about said topic) becomes irritating, which apparently justifies a duplicate thread for ONE specific user.
By that logic every single user could justify having an entire thread on personal for their complaints, because the lesson here is:
"If you bother people long enough, stir up some drama, and repeat the process several times, instead of being redirected you will be rewarded by said annoyed users giving you your own thread, despite it becoming a duplicate! Never again will you have to worry about annoying users in board ____, but can instead be fully justified pissing off users on the Personal board! Hooray!"
Just no.
It would become not only a duplicate, but a shining example that we ENCOURAGE spamming comments that could go elsewhere in other boards, because again, why post in the proper thread when you can be rewarded with your very own?!?
If people (somehow) are actually annoyed by the THREE posts in Random thought thread V.6 (going off the most recent thread) to justify making an entire thread for such a thing, the bar must be set pretty low.
It's understandable that there's been comments similar in other threads on Random, but again, there's a thread already in existence for complaining.
But why have such posts set people off really?
It's not entirely because of the posts in question, but mostly because of the arguments that have branched off of them.
A typical argument requires two or more people.
One post.
One response.
Saying that just the post (and therefore not the response) is the problem is arrogant, really. Imagine the amount of drama over these arguments over the past few months, and pretend that the comments were never replied to in the first place.
Do you think that this would have gone as far as it has if no one had replied? I have a hard time imagining so. Really, it's not one persons fault, but many (myself included).
Instead of just converting an entire thread on Personal into one person's bitching thread, why not just redirect further comments to the thread that's already in existence for just such a purpose?
Just redirect further complaints to the actual thread for it, don't propagate the drama by responding, and carry on with previous conversations, or even start a new one. This doesn't have to be solved by making more drama about it, just redirect appropriate comments to the appropriate thread, simple as that.
