I don't dislike the "Maximum the hormone", maybe you know them, they did the death note's op/ed.
There are even a lot of idol group, for exemple the AKB0048 that are known for the namesake anime.

Hmm... and Asian Kung-Fu Generation. To be totally honest, heard of them from Naruto and then fell in love with a bunch of their other songs like Kimi to Iu Hana and Sore Dewa Mata Ashita and Hikari. Must-see-live kind of band, you know?

I agree with all the above
'Unlimits' and 'Abingdon Boys School' are pretty good, the vocals are great in both.
If you want something with rougher/harsher vocals then 'Fear and loathing in Las Vegas' and 'Fact' are great.

Since I am a fan of stringed instruments, I like Kanon Wakeshima. She plays the cello and sings. Her songs have a dark aura to them, but at the same time they are upbeat and make you want to dance.

Galileo Galilei is an awesome Japanese band I STRONGLY reccomend giving a listen! They have performed a couple of anime OP (perhaps most notably Aoi Shiori, Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai's OP. Yes, that's a long name. Very.
Unfortunately, their music can be hard to find on YouTube, at least the live versions. Well, that is my experience in my country, I don't know how the situation is in other countries..
