Question time.
I'm in the middle of writing a small horror series and I was hoping to find some odd ways to kill off characters.
[+ Bonus if you give me some character ideas and find a way to give them an ironic murder]
If anyone could give me some suggestions on weird ways to kill them off that would be great!

Well, it would depend on how the plot was set up - what creates the horror, what's the setting, etc.

One character does something stupid that results in them falling off a boat and into the water. Another character jumps in and swims after them. It'll make the reader believe that the first character is going to die, but they actually get saved by the second one and are returned securely to the ladder of the boat. the second character also scales the ladder, and the reader will think "oh, false alarm", right? The engine falters on the boat, and the jolt knocks the 2nd character back into the water. He swims back to the ladder and manages to reach one arm out... But then at inhuman speed he's jerked far to the left. Then far to the right. His face and upper body are scraping against the metal sides all the while. The event looks as disturbing and supernatural as movie portrayals of people who are possessed.

The other characters call out to him, screaming what's wrong. When he lifts his face it's covered in blood, and a pool of red water surrounds his body. That's the last they see before he's pulled under water, large dispersal of red clouds float to the top of the water where the second character once was. The red then trails, a slightly wavering line that seeps away from the boat. And before it's fully out of sight, you see a grey fin surface the water before dipping back down.

But if you wanted something more supernatural, then just turn the shark into a ghost, or something?

ironic deaths:
weatherman(or woman) who gets caught in a natural disaster (i.e. storm, tornado, lightning, etc.)
serial killer (who's killing off your other characters perhaps) chokes on cereal
lion tamer gets eaten by lion
taxi driver gets hit by a taxi
doctor overdoses on medication

If you've ever watched South Park, then you know Kenny dies in every fricking episode. So here's a compilation of some of his deaths

Death by falling objects, perhaps? I haven't seen many horror movies, so I don't know... and for the bonus, I think this would go splendidly with a hopeless romantic that is always 'falling' in love. I hope it's not too cheesy of an idea, 'le~.

From Another : somebody was running while holding an umbrella, tripped and fell down the starirs, and impaled herself in the neck with said umbrella

If we're looking for horror deaths, you will ALWAYS wants something unexpected. In all my favorite horror novels, the characters that you think you KNOW are going to die right then and there always live. At least for a little while.

So here are some okay surefire deaths to try, that usually work.

-Kill someone who says they're going to get help. Better yet, they're actually on their cell phone with the police. Since they couldn't give a location, there's nothing they can do when the person on the phone is being stabbed to death.
-Kill the character who is in the process of saving another. The person being saved is killed later, or maybe even lives. The person doing the saving must die.
-Or not. Make the person who is doing the saving not make it in time, and come across the mangled, messy corpse of their friend they had hoped to save.
-Kill an animal. This makes me a really bad person to say this, but when the dog dies it REALLY sets the mood that this author has no remorse.

I can come up with some more if you give me some time or ask for more, but this is just what at the top of my messed up little head.

I know that I was the last to reply to this thread, but I realized my post lacked the "odd"ness you asked for. It just had some ideas I liked.

If you like odd deaths, there are multiple ways you could go about. You could either do the ones I suggested, that are only odd because of the irony, or they can be odd as in "how did someone die like this?". So here's the latter.

-As stated above, kill someone with a falling object. It could have fallen by accident, or someone could have pushed it. Maybe stick some characters in a collapsing building, and have someone reach for the exit as they are flattened by a falling pillar.
-Animal death. Not the kind I mentioned above. Kill someone with an animal. Yeah, you could always do something cliche like a rabid dog or a wolf, but do something out of the ordinary. Maybe a swarm of rats(look up the Dishonored game rat deaths), have some pets work for a serial killer, or just have a normally docile creature kill someone, like a deer.
-Use household appliances. I'm serious. Killing someone with a blender in a story is pretty fun. You can seriously get creative with this stuff. Set up some chords for a trip wire, electrocute someone who's taking a bath(classic), or push someone down the stairs. Or just use a kitchen knife.
-Drown someone. Mano e Mano. Just stick someone in a pool and have someone hold them under water long enough to kill them.

Just be creative. Look around your house and think "how could I kill someone with this?"

Ironic way to die: bumping an old thread too much that fingers start bleeding, but you just can't stop bumping the thread even then, and that ultimately leads to this character's death....
