I'd recommend "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's great and it made me cry. Also, "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. Made my whole perspective on love change. "Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger is a must! Right now I'm reading "Anne Frank's Family" by Mirjam Pressler. It's pretty good, it's not really about Anne, it's more about other people you would never think of.

--"He was the crazy one who had painted himself black and defeated the world. She was the Book Thief without words. Trust me, though, the words were on their way." Death
--"I saw the book thief three times." Death
--"The best word shakers were the ones who understood the true power of words." Max
--"Are you hiding from Hitler?" Liesel

'The Book Thief' was a powerful book that I read in my Honors English class. It's an amazing book, that puts the things that humans fear and underestimate into perspective. It teaches the reader the 'meaning of words.'

Theme: Words have the power to unite, connect, divide, and separate humans.

I am an occasional reader.
I'd like to suggest 'The Plague' by Albert Camus.

"The townspeople of Oran are in the grip of a deadly plague, which condemns them to a swift and horrifying death. Fear, isolation and claustrophobia follow as they are forced into quarantine. Each person responds in their own way to the lethal disease: some resign themselves to fate, some seek blame and revenge, and a few, like the unheroic Dr Rieux, join forces to resist the terror. In part an allegory of France's suffering under the Nazi occupation, 'The Plague' is a compelling depiction of bravery and determination pitted against the precariousness of human existence."

Okay, so a few months back I was reading the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. They're medieval fantasy and there are two books out so far. (The Name of the Wind & The Wise Man's Fear)
They're absolutely beautiful books with some of the best characters I've come across in a long time.
I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who likes fantasy.

For anyone who's more into Sci-Fi, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick is an absolute must read. A truly wonderful book that was way ahead of it's time. Ditto George Orwell's "1984"

I highly recommend "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. It's a gothic themed novel with a highly intriguing plot and so many intricate details.. a delightful read

I have a little bit of a list... Huge reader here...

ACID - Emma Pass
"ACID- The most brutal police force in history. They rule with an iron fist. They see everything. They know everything. They locked me away for life. My crime? They say I murdered my parents. I was fifteen years old. My name is Jenna Strong."

Anna Dressed In Blood - Kendare Blake
"Cas Lowood is no ordinary guy - He hunts dead people. People like Anna. Anna Dressed in Blood. A beautiful, murderous ghost entangled in curses and rage. Cas knows he must destroy her, but as her tragic past is revealed, he starts to understand why Anna has killed everyone who's ever dared to enter her spooky home. Everyone, that is, except Cas..."

Across the Nightingale Floor - Lian Hearn
"In his black-walled fortress at Inuyama, the murderous warlord Iida Sadamu, surveys his famous nightingale floor. Constructed with exquisite skill, it sings at the tread of each human foot. No assassin can cross it unheard.
Raised in a remote mountain village, Takeo is one of the Hidden, a reclusive and peaceful people who know nothing of war. But the tribe's tranquil existence is shattered by a brutal and bloody massacre, which Takeo alone survives - rescued by the mysterious Lord Otori Shigeru..."

Starters - Lissa Price
"First, Callie lost her parents. Then she lost her home. And, Finally, she lost her body. But she will stop at nothing to get it back..."

Undead and Unwed - Maryjanice Davidson
"/The day I died started out bad and got worse in a hurry.../
Betsy Taylor has just woken up in a morgue to discover she's a vampire. On the plus side, being undead sure beats the alternative. She now has super human strength and an unnatural effect on the opposite sex. What Betsy cant handle is her new liquid diet..." (Side note... if your after a Romcom... this one covers all that)

Deltora Quest - Emily Rodda
So this series is actually made for more of a teen audience, but it really is fantastically written. There is also an anime series based off of it as well. I defiantly recommend the books though!!

The Sorcerers of the Nightwing by Geoffrey Huntington: I'm loving the thrill and horror but what's up with 14 year old kids falling in love and making out after meeting just about a week ago? Anyways, it's a great recommendation for dark fantasy genre lovers :3
