Finding Old Children's Books (4)

So, recently I've been feeling nostalgic about various things. One of those things is a couple of children's picture books I had when I was younger. I no longer have them, but I really want to find and buy them if I can. The hard part is where to find them. I've looked on Amazon for one of them, called The Fire Bird, which, if I remember correctly, has something to do with a phoenix in a garden (I can't remember the name of the other). I'm not really sure where else to look on the internet, and a book store like Barnes and Noble doesn't have them, as they're too old (I had them in the early to mid 90's; I have no idea when they were written, but they probably were recent books at the time). I was hoping some of you might know the book I'm thinking of that I can't remember the name of.

As for places to look, there's a rather large used book store where I live, but I haven't looked there yet. I've been planning on going when I find out the name of the other book. The other idea I had is going to the local library and asking if any of the librarians have been there for a long time, as they might be able to help me find out the name of the book. If anyone has other suggestions on where I might be able to find these books, please share. Thanks!

They're only vague details, but this is what I remember about the book I can't remember the name of:

In the book, there's a boy who has a book about dragons. One of the dragons comes out of the book. It's tiny because it's the same size as its picture in the book. The dragon is beautifully depicted: most of its body is green, with the scales having the color and sheen of emeralds. Its claws (and maybe its underside) are an orange-amber color. Either that, or its underside is orange-amber and its claws are ruby-colored.

At some point in the book, the boy gets shrunken down as well. He and the dragon go to a tomato garden, where they run into a cat. The cat's fur is a darker shade of grey, and its eyes are the color of rubies. It tries to catch and eat the boy and the dragon. The dragon becomes really big and saves the boy from the cat. He rides it away (I think?; he might have been in its hand) and they come upon a flock of other dragons (I want to say that the dragons are all from other books about dragons, but I'm really unsure of this), which are all beautifully colored. They make it back to the boy's house, and the dragon returns to its book.

I found "The Fire Bird" on amazon.com (the version I'm looking for). I didn't know this before I started looking, but apparently it's a Russian folktale, and there are many, many, many renditions of it.

So, no one has any idea what the name of the other book is? No one at all?

>>3 I highly doubt someone made it into a real book.

On a different note, you brought up a purpose for this thread that I hadn't originally intended or thought of (being a way for anyone--not just me--to re-find old books that you lost that you really miss). I really like that idea though, so I'm not at all opposed to the shift in purpose.
