Being a member of the mlp fandom, I have been reading My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic fanfictions for a year now. It may sound improbable, but there is an astounding community of writers there. The characters are multidimensional, the world of fantasy the show offers is vast and rich, which opens numerous doors and possibilities for various genres. Such great fanfictions are the main reason I joined the fandom, to be honest. These fanfictions are not the majority, mind you, but only a decent portion.

Right here, I recommend a brilliant story which flows like a well-written fairy tale and deals with themes like darkness, "romance" and naivety. It is called The Glass Blower http://www.fimfiction.net/story/3228/the-glass-blower and you will not regret a single word of it, if you take the time to read it (you don't have to know anything about the actual mlp show to understand it). It is a memorable story that will forever stay in my heart until the day I die.

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. BEST. STORY. EVER. plus it's like an actual book. it's 119 chapters so far. and each chapter is an average chapter for a book (aprox. 7,000 words. more or less). seriously this story is amazing!

I enjoy sad fictions. Now, I warn you. The first one has L as the main character. I was hesitant to read this, but I did, and didn't regret it.
The second one. I know, It sounds very dramatic, overly so, but it's good. I honestly didn't want to read it at first because of the 'pairing' if that's what you could call it, in the first few chapters. Plus, it was just torturing Naruto. Please, read this. If you could get past the pairing(s), and whatnot, I'm sure you'll like it. After you're done, place you're own theory of if the right decision was made, or not.
The third one. This story may be hard to get into. Get past the first few chapters, and you will be in for a ride. It's very emotional, and a long story to keep you busy. Sixty chapters, and over 1,000,000 words. Awesome right? Some parts do get bland, and even I skipped a few parts. It doesn't affect you much if you do. The ending wasn't as satisfying as I hoped, but that's because I'm always searching for angst.

It's a Tales of Symphonia fanfic and yes *Dramatic Gasps* a Self Insert Story but this one is actually good with good character, plot, and writing development. What's sad is most people over look these kinds of stories due to the stereo typical "Mary Sue/ Gary Stu are awful!" mentality the world has causing needless pointless hate. And yes while there are some bad Self Insert stories with very annoying S.I OC's that fit that stereo type(Trust me I know that all to well having come across pretty bad ones in the past same with OC characters that are not Self Insert characters..*Face Palms*) not all are that way thus why once again I say it's bad because their not always given a fair glance let alone chance by readers due to that very mentality.

Anyway if your willing to give it a chance and love Tales of Symphonia I highly recommend you check it out. :)

Granted, Aion isn't very well known anymore (it's an MMO by NCSoft), but The Lay is perfectly able to stand on it's own. The author to my understanding, actually began writing it before the game got an English release, so a good chunk of the worldbuilding - as well as the characters - is all original. You don't need to play the game to understand the story, but reading a short summary of the game/lore would be a good idea. It's basically about a criminal human Asmodian that is taken by a bunch of Elyos Daevas, and is forced to socialise with her people's greatest enemy (it's NOT an abuse story or anything of the sort, there's very little graphical violence in The Lay. Spoilers: the Eloys want the protag to translate a literary work... and something else, but spoilers). It's perfectly understandable if you don't know anything about Aion, and an absolute delight if you do.

The Lay is written in first person. I personally don't tend to like first person styles very much, but Bladesworn's prose is absolutely gorgeous, and the protagonist is wonderfully developed and layered. I can't really praise this fic enough; it's undoubtedly the best fic I've ever read. It's definietly better than many published books I've read. It's also really long, currently sitting at 172k words. If you're into high/angelic fantasy, thorough worldbuilding/characters, culture clashes and enemies to friends, please do yourself a favour and check out The Lay.

Starts off with the night of the School trip Arc in which not only Bakugou but Tokoyami ends up being kidnapped as well by the League of villains. Afterwards, Bakugou is saved but Tokoyami not and the story keeps going as Tokoyami is trained by Dabi and he creates bonds with the other members of the League. The story really follows the arcs of the manga so I advise you to be careful to not be spoiled.
I'm really enjoying it bcs it really gives a nice focus on Tokoyami that is one of my fav characters but doesn't get that much time of screen :(
