My favourite book series is by far the Xanth series by Piers Anthony.
They were my bedtime stories as a young child,
During Primary school, I'd wait for DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time just to reach in my bag and pull out a Xanth book,
They've been the subject of my speeches,
They've been inspiration for my art (Which was more like splodges of paint, since I was like 5 when I liked painting),
When I'm sad and told to go to my "Happy Place", I'd go to Xanth.

The Xanth series has been really inspirational to me, and if my Dad hadn't introduced me to it, I might not be the person I am today.

I for one love The Enemy Series by Charlie Higson
fist book: The Enemy
Second book: The Dead
Third book: The Fear
I strongly suggest for anyone who loves zombies and grossly descriptive language!!!!
I personally read the Dead first and it was amazing but i dont think i would have continued the series if i read the first book first... but there about two different surviving groups so the first and second are interchangeable but i say keep the third as the third no matter what

The Gone series. I'm on the second to last book and I freaking love it. Everyone 15 and over in a town called Perdido Beach and the nearby Coates Academy disappear suddenly. No flash, no poof, just there one second and gone the next. A dome 20 miles in diameter with the center at the nearby nuclear power plant encompass the area. People are starting to mutate and gain powers. Think X-men mutants but all under 15 with no adult supervision. Animals are also starting to mutate, so they have flying snakes, killer worms, and talking coyotes. Sam Temple, the protagonist, is trying to find a way out of the dome and keep kids from killing each other when psychotic Cain Soren comes down from Coates to take over.

You should all read this, now. I'm serious, do it.

>>33 Ahh I love that series! It's sooo amazing. It's just like what it said on the back of the book-If Stephen King wrote Lord of the Flies, this would be that book. Fun fact- Michael Grant, the author, is married to K.A. Applegate, author of the Animorphs series. It has been suggested that Edilio is and expy of Marco.

36 Name: G : 2013-04-15 17:32 ID:YK0LI4rM [Del]

Classics like Victor Hugo's Les Misérables and Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol always are with my favourites however I love psychological thrillers and horrors most of the time such as: Kokuhaku/Confessions, A Ripper's Life, We need to talk about Kevin and Live Once Die Once, all of which explore the depth of Human nature and society. It facinates me. XD Don't get me wronf I love all types of books, always give a book ago before judging..I've read the Twilight series and 50 Shades of Grey...which had very bad Language skills used in many sections :/ Also.I have read the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit both of which I adored and Of course Harry Potter. That is my childhood and I can gladly say I am a potterhead heh x Recently I've read Cloud Atlas which is a unique book I recommend as it tackles the issue of death and the concept of time...even maybe time travel? Dr Who fans may enjoy haha ^ o ^ Anyway hope I have not intruded on anything, just randomly putting this hear for anone who wishes to read.
Have a lovely day/evening/night xx

>>38 Oooooo. I love The Unwind and Skinjacker trilogies. Only the first two books of Unwind are out, but it's awesome. I read all of the Skinjacker Trilogy.

I'll give you guys a bit of a synopsis.

The Skinjacker Trilogy begins with a car accident that kills two young teenagers, Allie and Nick. The two aren't wearing seatbelts and the two fly through their respect windshield, crashing into each other on their way to the light. This knocks them off their path and cause them to be stuck on earth. As they soon learn, they're not the only children who failed to move on. In fact, there is a second world entirely peopled by the young dead that inhabits the same space as the living world, but does not interact with it.

Adults never end up in the Everlost, but sometimes objects or even whole buildings do. Your appearance and abilities are dictated by what you remember. If you remember having long hair, you hair will continue to grow longer and longer until it reaches lengths that are impossible. If you remember your braces as a prominent feature, they keep becoming bigger and more noticeable.

Allie's memory is sharper than most and she soon discovers a unique ability, skinjacking. The ability to jump into the body of a living person and control them. Thus the name of the series.

Unwind is less supernatural. In the future, abortion is illegal. Instead, children between the ages of 13 and 18 may be "unwound" for spare parts. The act of unwinding entails being taken apart and having your parts distributed to people who need them. People have entire limbs replaced via this process.

Three kids slated for unwinding from very different backgrounds run into each other when one, Connor, manages to escape from the police. Connor is an unruly, wild kid who's parents cannot cope with him any longer (although he wasn't any worse than many of the kids I know), Risa is a state ward who is being unwound because of budget cuts, and Lev has be "tithed", given up by his religious family for the purpose of "giving him back to God", who actually believes in his purpose. These unlikely allies must survive until they are old enough to escape the cruel world that evolved from ours.

42 Name: sean king : 2013-04-19 22:27 ID:F1RgRPPe [Del]

>>41 i love that series

i suggest the maze runner series. in a futuristic world of 2300, there is a huge solar flare. this flare hits earth seconds after it is noticed, so there is no warning. this flare scorched the equatorial line, and melted the ice caps, riseing the sea and pushing the surviving population closer to each other. in the confusion, a deadly virus from a bio weapons area escapes and begins to kill everyone. this is called "the flare", and mutates quickly to make people crazy sadistic animals.
the first book starts years afterwards. a scientific group, gathered by the last goverments is useing tests on people to try to solve the mystery of the cure. the series is about a subjects struggle for survival, and his path to the truth.

SUPER GOOD BOOK, YOU ALL MUST READ!

So a lot of mine have already been mentioned, but after a quick scan (sorry if these have been said) some of those that I don't believe have been mentioned:

To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) - absolutely gorgeous and delightful. A lot of people hear you do it at school and think it must therefore be horrid but it is actually one of my favourite books ever and it is just a brilliant read.

Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) - seriously, persevere with this one. I know it's a difficult read, but until you've read it you have no idea how absolutely HILARIOUS it is, and of course, it's a brilliant romance for all those who love that sort of stuff. Not at all soppy though, or trust me, i'd hate it. Amazingly, it's really well liked by both genders and all ages. All I say is don't start and give up, you have to get into it and then you'll be hooked.

Some great authors (Some are Australian so I don't know how far abroad you can get their work) are:
Roald Dahl (surely he's been mentioned, how could he not be mentioned already?...must have missed it)
James Moloney (particularly Black Taxi for a good laugh)
Eva Ibbotson (Journey to the River Sea is my favourite)
Terry Pratchett (anything of his will be awesome)

and I've probably forgotten some, I read too many books. :) Enjoy

Oh, there are too many to say! I'll just name a few...
American Gods by Neil Gaiman--reading it right now and loving every second of it! I love all of his books; they are so deliciously dark and thought-provoking.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley--Possibly my all-time fave book!
1984 by George Orwell--I feel like many of the classic dystopias are more creative and more haunting than many of the modern ones.
If you want a thriller, Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman is a really captivating read.
My favorite romance is Every Day by David Levithan--So beautiful and really unique!

61 Name: Hana : 2013-06-19 20:28 ID:h/sviM6Q [Del]

Wicked Lovely. (well i didn't know it was a series of books until later on, but I'd prefer just reading the first book instead, and i thought the front cover was pretty too! it was yellow and and kinda cool looking)
Dragonkeeper(it was a nice read, i know this one is a series of novels, but i only read the first book as well, but if i have time i might read the second one, since its about dragons and a young girl, kind of interesting to me)
Chinese Cinderella (its a nice book, a good plot overall i liked it, also a series , i've read 2 books from it. )
Mao's last dancer(well usually i prefer reading female protaganists more, but this was a nice book, the life of mao, the hardships he overcame, some sadness, and of course a happy ending. there's even some pics of mao and his family nearing the end of the book)
Evil Genius(well, it was about a young kid technology, nanobites and computer stuff and all, got me a bit hooked, and learnt some new things from it, )

Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury.
This is just one of those books I think everyone should read.
1984, George Orwell.
Please just read it you'll thank me later.
Brave New World, Aldous Huxley.

Steven Brust's vlad taltos series. I liked that series alot. Its more for the older readers out there but it's a fantasy series about an assassin named Vlad Taltos, an easterner (term used for humans) in a world where humans are the lowest of the low in class, status, and manners. Glad runs his own private business of assassin work and has his own training in sorcery and other magic at his disposal. Alongside him is his winged scaly jhereg companion (jheregs are like wyrms but a little smaller ) . Anyways check these books out, the series isn't very chronological, more epsodic on Vlad's adventures and experience ( the author leaves a note for each book in what order should be chronological if you want to read it that way)

I'm a huge fan of Glen Cooks "Black Company" series. It's dark, and it shatters most preconceptions about what fantasy can accomplish. Told by Croaker, the physician of the Black Company, the books follow a mercenary group in their travels and battles on both sides of great wars and falling countries. Take a look if you're into ark fantasy; you won't be disappointed.

We were required to read a book by my school district during the summer entitled The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak. It's a heartbreaking story about a girl who loves reading in a poor village of Germany during World War II. While it's nothing too special or groundbreaking and I probably would not have read it were it not mandatory, it is a very well written and emotion-sparking book, and it would not hurt to read it.

^ The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is by far one of my favorite things.

It goes without saying that Neil Gaiman's works are enchanting. I often find myself thinking about the stories long after I've finished them. Especially Neverwhere, The Graveyard Book and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

Good Omens, a collaboration by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is hilarious and explosive and god damn amazing. I still haven't gotten over Crowley's cheekbones nor Aziraphale's perfectly manicured fingers.

And then there's The Little Prince, guaranteed to give the reader a smothering feeling of nostalgia.

(please don't get me started on books, i will literally never stop talking)

146 Name: Hinatot : 2013-10-29 15:23 ID:hXNBgoP0 [Del]

I read The Graveyard Book several years ago and still think about it a lot. It's interesting, especially since I didn't really like it when I first read it.

Anyway, I'd like to say a few recommendations of my own! Right now, I really love The Book Thief, Eon, and The Hobbit. I could go on listing, but I'll stick to those three. The Book Thief takes place in WWII, and follows the life of a young German girl named Liesel, her friends, family, and the books she stole. It's sad, but very good. Eon is about a cross-dressing girl who trains to work with spiritual dragons. The dragons' powers are channeled through their (male) humans and are used to control weather, among other things. It's an interesting read. The Hobbit is, of course, a classic, and is being made into a movie series which is pretty cool in my opinion. It follows Bilbo Baggins at fifty years old going on an adventure with a host of dwarves and a wizard to defeat a dragon. It was one of the first books I ever remember reading and I've never grown tired of it.

A series of great adventures bound to keep you on your toes (or at the edge of your seat).

For more MATURE stories (hey, they're my faves, okay? You don't need to read these. >.>):

Lothaire by Kresley Cole (part of the Immortals After Dark series)
A gripping tale of love, lust, intrigue, and the supernatural. No need to read the other books to understand the story. Proceed with caution, though, because it's VERY explicit.

The Cynster Novels series by Stephanie Laurens
Utterly brilliant for a series of Regency England adult romance books. And the witty banters are just divine. Will make you want to know everything about the Cynster dynasty.

First off, love the Ascendance Trilogy written by Jennifer A. Neilson (the final book is coming out soon, I don't want it to end just yet)

There's also the whole thing on Maze Runner (James Dashner) and the Inkheart Trilogy. The Hunger Games was good but everyone recommends that anyways there's also almost all of the John Green books (god I love him) and a book I just recently started reading called Time Bound by Rysa Walker (the prologue got me hooked, it starts off in Chicago, October 1893). I think that's it but I'll probably come back with more (started like five new books yay!!).

Some great recommendations, though, would be OCD Love Story, Fangirl, Heaven is Paved With Oreos, Ink, and of course, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

>>163 I just finished Fangirl, it was great! I haven't read any of the others, though.

The Rot and Ruin series is good for anyone who likes the post apocalypse or zombie stuff. The series follows Benny Imura, a kid who just reached the age where he has to start working to keep getting rations in his town. He can't seem to find any jobs he enjoys so his older brother takes him out zombie hunting. There's four books in the series (I've only read the first two at this point).

These guys know what's up. Neil Gaiman is the man. I haven't read American Gods yet, but I've read every one of his short stories, Coraline, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Good Omens (with Terry Pratchett), and Neverwhere. Anyways...

A Song of Ice and Fire by G.R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones)
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Dune by Frank Herbert
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
1984 by George Orwell

There are so much more but these are the only ones that are coming to mind right now x_x Oh, and honestly I don't care what anyone says, The Hunger Games and Divergent are horribly written.

Plainsong, by Kent Haruf. I feel like this novel is easy to read and has a character for every reader to relate to.

The books of Paulo Coelho are really nice though, some here are easy to read while the others might not be. Well then enjoy reading~

I'm pretty fond of books by Emma Bull and her husband, Will Shetterly.

I think I've read Finder enough to have it memorized by now, and War for the Oaks is an old favorite too.

Elsewhere and Nevernever are great for a better look at the setting of the Borderlands novels.

Basically, I highly recommend these novels for anyone who likes modern fantasy. The writing is good, the dialogue is amusing, the characters are enjoyable, and the plotting is spectacular. If you're a fan of Niel Gaiman or Diana Wynne Jones you'll probably love these novels.

The Redemption of Althalus by Devid and Leigh Eddings, Its still my favourite book fter many years. It had wonderful characthers, like Althalus and Emmy. The storyline was good too.

And also, if anyone is looking for a story that has very good characthers, read Legend of the Sun Knight by Yu Wo, its translated to English on Princerevolution. It definatly Worth Reading, it Always makes me laugh and cry ^^

1/2 Prince by Yu Wo is also a very good story.
