The legendary collection of Western and South Asian stories and folk tales originating during the late Golden Islamic Age, these timeless tales were compiled by hundreds of storytellers through hundreds of years. The "Arabian Nights" include such famous stories like Aladdin, Ali Baba, and the Adventures of Sindbad.

The frame story involves the cruel Persian King, Shahryar who marries a virgin every day only o execute her the next day. The shrewd Scheherazade volunteers as the next bride. that night, she spins a story for the king but stops before the ending. Curious of the ending, the king postpones the execution for her to finish a story and then begins only the start of the next story. The cycle then goes on for 1001 nights...

1001 Nights is like a genre in its own.

TBH, it's one of my favorite story series. There are so many interpretations, too; it's like an Arabian Alice in Wonderland in that every culture changes it a little bit and their iconic stories are referenced in all mediums.

Aladdin, Ali Baba, and the Adventures of Sindbad are not included in 1001 Nights. These stories were added by later European translators.

But what happens after 1001 nights?.. did she die?

Also, my first encounter with 1001 nights was when I went to my very first Fox Theatre performance show in Atlanta. It was nothing short of magical. Story after story, tale after tale told by dancers and musicians. (Ha ha) It went on for so long, my family began to wonder if they would tell all one thousand and one stories. But even though it was a joke, I remember underneath the fabricated cieling, with drifting clouds, whitewashed stone walls and twinkling stars mimicking an arabian night, that I wished the show would never end even after 1000.
I guess that I should try reading the actual book now. Is there a preferred translation of the book, or has there always been a primary one?

>>3 those stories were modified by european translators into their modern forms but those original stories did exist in the 15th century versions.

>>4 she manages to get the king to fall in love with her. Although there are hints that they didn't just have stories those 1001 nights
