Ok, so I have an idea for a story-comic/manga that I'm fairly satisfied with. However, I don't want to come out with it and it be shit, so I'd like your thoughts in this.

The story takes place in "Area-01", a large military base/ town. It has a population of approx. 30,000 people.....99% of whom are the highschool students there.....

Area-01, AKA "Dreamscape", is a large town, military base, and highschool in one. It is where students wit exceptional Mental, physical, and other talents are sent by the worlds militaries to train in the art of war. Instead on PE, you have Drill Class. Instead of FFA, you have weapons and Vehicle mechanics. Instead of Computer Aps, you have military sciences. Students take classes based on what branch they will be working in. For example, Air Force kids will take flight lessons and Aircraft Mechanics. Infantry will take drill, MA, and ROTC.

Everything in town is run by the students; dangerous or tedious jobs are done by automations. The only adults on the base are the school staff, and occasionally the Colonel and his party. The order and peace is kept by the SWAT Club. The base itself is governed by the Student Body.

Students live in separate housing in the country side, or in town, among their squad mates. Squad mates are selected based on Personality, role, ect. Each squad receives it's own emblem, callsign, and ranking in the school, with the squads gaining points based on the missions they do. Missions, however, are rather rare for students; The base is roughly forty miles from a large city, which offers decent cases, but for those who don;t like that, there are alternative ways.....

Instead of Sports like football, soccer, baseball, ect., the school gets it's entertainment from a variety of military-themed activities, such as Parkour-Foot races, Rifle competition, and several other sports. The most popular sport, which is televised live across the base every friday, is WARGAMES.

WARGAMES is just what it is. Different colour-designated teams fight to the "death" in the arena: A small "abandoned" town/complex off school grounds. These teams play a variety of Gametypes such as Deathmatch, CTF, CTL, ect. inside this arena, utilizing sniper rifles, RPGs, automatic weapons, and even booby traps. To up the ante, all electronics and machinery is controlled by an insane AI, which puts everyone in danger at all times. Booby traps like car-bombs, collapsing buildings, pits, and even rabid dogs are also scattered about. The winning team recieves several points in the ranking.

The story revolves around Maroon Squad: a currently three man team, with an auxillery fourth member. The members are:

Nodoko (girl; the muscle)- Nodoko is a member of the heavy weapons division. She is tough, and strong....and agressive. She is the oldest member, and is often seen downtown with the bad kids of the school, smoking. Her main field is the Army.

Kai (girl; the grunt)- The squad leader. Kai is smart, agile, and determined. She is best friends with her other squad mate, Duncan, and they both play in WARGAMES and are Battle Buddies. She also works in Intel with Duncan's GF. She is destined for the newly formed Space Core, and wishes to serve on the new Tokyo-Class destroyer AKATSUKI.

Duncan (boy; the scout)- Duncan is a dreamer. He spends most of his time wandering around town or off in the city, on some crazy adventure. He chills with some mysterious kids and doesn't talk much about his "private affairs", which usually take place late at night, in the city. Despite past tensions, he and Kai are best friends, always in some sort of trouble. He has a crippled GF, who works with Kai in intel. His main field in the US Air Force.

So...any thoughts? Maybe I should change some names....I dunno....

Reminds me a bit of the Hunger Games. The idea of the story sounds good, but how will the plot work out? Is it just the Maroon Squad competing in the Wargames, or will there be a sort of conspiracy against the school/military base?

and just the name Dreamscape reminds me of that shitty YouTube soundtrack, ugh

but yeah, you should check out that DA group for ideas I guess. They have a lot of interesting OC's and events, but I'd recommend asking the group and artists before you actually take anything for your comic.

and what >>3 said is right. You can't just start a comic with only a well developed background. You have to have at least the slightest general idea of what's going to happen and possibly how it'll end. Otherwise you'll just end up constantly taking breaks to figure out what to do.

Yes, I have been pondering on the plot. I think it should either be something involving the Space Cores origins, or maybe the students turning on each other as diplomatic relations between their native countries break down. WARGAMES would be a sort of side story meant just for action parts and what-not. At the moment, I'm thinking of the plot being how Maroon Squad undertakes different missions and cases to stop a conspiracy/movement against the school.

Or I could have the plot revolve around WARGAMES, with cases and missions being a sub-plot. I'd like it to be a retro-action thing, with spatterings of School Life, Mystery/Noir, and sci-fi (it takes place in a PMT/Early Future setting).

At the moment, I'm thinking the conspiracy thing, with WARGAMES being a sub-plot meant merely for action and lulz. Sorta like the pro-bending in Legend of Korra.

Also, I already know that the first part should be a little backstory on how Maroon Squad is established, and then get to introducing the characters, ending with them getting ready for WARGAMES. The second one would be them taking part in wargames, which would have some events leading to them learning of the conspiracy.

A by-the-books, no nonsense, seemingly robotic soldier from the PRC. Leader of Bravo Squad and serving on the council. Head of the combat division.



The story, being set in a Post-Modern military society, will involve many of the world's most powerful military factions. These include:

The U.S. Air Force, Army, and Navy

The Russian Armed Forces

The British RAF, BEF

French Army

German Wermacht, Luftwaffe

Japanese GSDF, ASDF, and Navy

Turkish Army

Unified Korean Police Force

This list may change, adding or removing factions accordingly.

The "City" would be a Mega-City, taking up a large area of West Africa. It serves as the seat of the UNSC, being close to the Star-Port, in which the newly formed Star Fleet is being built.

"Area-001" is now the UN Global Acadamy of Peace-Keeping.

The plot will revolve around Maroon Squad solving a chain of crimes and mysteries around the base, with WARGAMES being a subplot, and their exploits in the city being more or less a side story of the Scout's.
