We should have a book club, Suggest a book and have members read it and then post back with their reviews.
You all debate on what book should be first.
Suggestion Ender's Game.

2 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-10-30 13:45 ID:FUKFzKKc [Del]

But... we already have a "book recommendations" thread for exactly this purpose...

There's absolutely no way you posted this without knowing that. It was at the top of the board, and in fact it's right under this thread at the time of this post. Was there another reason for this that I'm not understanding or did you just make a conscious decision to duplicate the thread

3 Name: Xavier Maddux !VYV9YRb9/s : 2012-10-30 14:12 ID:fTHs39Tv [Del]

I knew of the former thread and i am not duplicating it. This is different; the other thread is just recommendations, where as mine is were you chose a book to read and talk about. like a normal book club.

Before we pick a book (if we havent) can we pick an interesting one and not a boring book... Action Adventure? :D

7 Name: Xavier Maddux !VYV9YRb9/s : 2012-11-02 11:28 ID:fTHs39Tv [Del]

>>5 Sixclaw a book club reads the booka nd debates on what they like or don't like with fellow dollars. On a recommendation you just say, "I read "this book", I liked it because "this and this".
Difference.

At any rate: >>6 That would be nice a boring book would be harder to read, a real page turner would be great, have any in mind.

8 Name: Raikura : 2012-11-02 12:51 ID:sLdg05il [Del]

And if you Wish to join the Dollars book club pleas say so.

12 Name: IX : 2012-11-03 22:51 ID:3fkRFCiN [Del]

A book club would be so cool!

The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series' by Cassandra Clare are really good. The newest books for each series don't come out until 2013 though.

By the way, The Maximum Ride series is excellent.

I love Dean Koontz novels. If you like sci-fi and suspense that has you turning pages nonstop filled with wit and a completely original plot, look up any of his books. The very first and favorite one I read is called "By the Light of the Moon".

His novels have the perfect mixture of adventure, thriller, and romance.

Guys. Look at >>14 and choose a book out of the suggestions already.

Harry Potter
By the Light of the Moon by Dean Koontz
Maximum Ride Series
Ender's Game
Percy Jackson Series

Everyone read HP, and I'm pretty sure this would turn into a HP fan club thread if we spoke about that.
I feel that the Percy Jackson series is a bit too... easy. (no offense)
Maximum Ride actually is a novel and now a manga... so yeah, that'd be kinda cool...

I don't think a Book Club is a bad idea. But we should pick books that are less common. Everyone knows of Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, and Harry Potter. Choose something a little less known, but still a good read. Like The Phantom Tollbooth, Ella Enchanted (NOTHING like that piece of shit movie), The Chrestomanci Quartet, etc.

39 Name: Xavier Maddux !hMypHw1jWo : 2012-11-29 11:19 ID:fTHs39Tv [Del]

I read Ender's Game. IMO, it sucked. It wasn't anything like what the descriptions and reviews made it out to be.

I'm interested in joining the club. I would like to suggest Gideon's Sword, the first of two books (the second being Gideon's Corpse) in a thriller series written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (the authors of Relic and Reliquary, another amazing thriller/horror/sci-fi sequel-series). Having read Relic and Reliquary, I just can't wait to read more from these authors, and it would be great to read it alongside others in a club.

Gideon's Sword
Publisher's Summary: "At age 12, Gideon Crew witnessed the brutal murder of his father. More than 20 years later, Gideon gets his revenge. But then a mysterious witness steps forward to confront Gideon on his crime--and offer him the chance of a lifetime."

Wiki Summary: "The story introduces Gideon Crew, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory who is also a former art thief/master-of-disguise. He learns from his mother that his mathematician father—who had developed a flawed encryption—had actually warned his boss about the flaws, only to be murdered. Gideon extracts revenge from his father's murderer. As a result of this, he is recruited to be a freelance operative by an ultra-private security/engineering firm working for the Department of Homeland Security. His mission: to trace and retrieve plans for a mysterious super-weapon being brought to the United States of America by a Chinese scientist before the Chinese can recover them."

I had a few teachers read Ender's game, so if SciFi isn't your thing then don't vote for it. if a tie were to happen we will discuss. We still need at least 2 more members if Leigha were to join us.

60 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-12-04 13:21 ID:1/G7pGr+ [Del]

I love Sci-fi; Ender's Game just wasn't a good read. Story isn't that great (and is fairly cliche). Writing isn't that great. Characters aren't that great. It's just a very average/low-level read. I'll join you all in the discussion if it is what is decided on, though ;e

61 Name: Leigha Moscove !9tSeSkSEz2 : 2012-12-04 18:45 ID:uXQaPvUw [Del]

How about... I'll join and just not contribute if I can't get a hold of the book chosen? Does that sound good?

Ender's Game was a good book. I was told how it'd end, and I still didn't see it coming. I kind of do see some cliche though. I kind of like stories that involve a main character who's insanely smart and good at planning though. I won't go into any further detail on that.

If I'm allowed to go with the idea given earlier, I'd like to recommend The Outsiders. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANY OF YOU SAY! I loved it and cried at the end.

how was Ender's game average? i might not have read it for a couple of years, but when i did i loved it and it had depth for its genre. Bean alone is amazing character, Ender had complex motivations for all his actions. the rest of the world had life, even though it took place in space and wasn't centered around ender but one in which he existed. It was good, nuff said

Oh and i recommend two:

Dead -ish By Naomi Kramer
~only read if you like short, humorous, and slightly raunchy to explicit dialogue and behavior

the Unsuspecting Mage series by Brian S. Pratt
~Written by a guy in by as guy as a teenager about what would happen if you lived in a world right out of Dungeons and Dragons

I suggest

1-Vampire Plague Series
2-The Hunger Games Trilogy(there are three movies to the Trilogy.)
3-The City of Ember(There's also a Movie to it.)
4-Blood Red Road(Haven't finished it yet but so far it's really good and anyone who spoils the ending I kill you!)
5-The Power of Five aka The Gate Keeper Series.

Have a Nice Day

Grab "Ender's Game" at you'r local Library or school's. "Ender's Game" is a Sci Fi First Person Story by Orson Scott Card, and is 15 Chapters.
We will read 5 chapters ever 3 days and report on how we feel about the book so far. I suggest we begin reading as soon as the 15 people have claimed to have obtained the book.

I have gotten the book

I've read it before, but I didn't have the book so I couldn't reread it. I think I know enough to discuss it though.

143 Name: Okami : 2013-02-10 13:03 ID:MB9+8BZQ [Del]

Ender's Game is an amazing book, and it's sequels are even better, though I wouldn't advise reading them until you can get a general understanding of what Orson Scott Card is trying to say, since the sequels can be much more difficult to understand due to their difficult vocabulary and strange word order. Also, where Ender's Game deals heavily in the actions of Ender as a commander, the sequels (in order: Ender in Exile, Speaker for the Dead, and Xenocide) deal more with the philosophical and psychological effects of Ender's actions in the first book.

Overall though, Card is one of my most favorite authors of all time, and I have found that we have similar philosophic ideals, making him an all the more enjoyable author for me. I highly recommend reading all of the books, but there are many who strongly dislike the sequels, which is an equally valid point, as they can cause you to be easily confused.
