How do you like your books? (23)

1 Name: D. MacBane : 2012-08-25 00:22 ID:qSKww374 [Del]

I've started listening to audio books, I also enjoy reading and holding a physical book but I have no problem with e-books.
Do you have a preference? What is it? Audio books? E-books? Or the traditional paper book?

I don't really like audio books. You can't read it with your own pace. E books on the other hand can be light and portable, but once ins low bat... O.o But books are expensive...

I always prefer having a physical copy of a book. Yes, it takes up more room, yes, it can be destroyed, but I find that losing power or having electronics act up is far more common.

Hooray for good ol', binded down the spine books!

I like physical copies of books and sometimes audiobooks.

I've decided I can't stand e-books. My Kindle gives me a headache every time I try to use it... but, my aunt bought it for me, so I'd feel incredibly rude if I got rid of it.

Since I get motion sickness when I try to read in cars, listening to audiobooks on my iPod is a really good way to pass the time during road trips. Also, some books with a lot of dialect are almost impossible to understand unless you can hear what they're saying and how they're saying it, so I've also found that buying an audiobook make books luck The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn a lot easier to read.

But, in most cases, I prefer a good old-fashioned regular book. I like the feel of the spine in my hand and turning the pages at my own pace... I would choose the natural feel of a book any day over all of that electronic nonsense.

i prefer the physical books. I always miss something while reading an ebook, it´s like i cannot really lose myself while reading them. And in some weird way i love the smell of physical books... jep strange, however, it´s important for me to be able to really hold the book in my hands ^^

Because I'm so bad at keeping my books in good shape, I tend to read things on my iPhone or eReader - Bbut I'd still rather a real book, either way.

I have a nook and I've only used it twice. I dislike ebooks because I'm a very fast reader and they slow me down. Plus with hard copies I can keep them on display or whatever.

I personally prefer actual books rather than an e-book. I have a kindle fire and I do have some books on it, but it takes me forever to finish them simply because I end up getting bored of it. I enjoy sitting on a comfortable chair and having a book on my lap. :)

I prefer physical books, though since I read practically anything I sometimes read on my laptop, kindle, etc. Used to love audio books when younger, though only as a companion sound source to listen along with the real copy. Now I find myself without the patience to slow myself down and bother listening when I can just read ten times faster.

I like physical books the best, but the idea of an e-book is still a good one, I can not tell you the number of times I have bought a book that I thought I would like and I ended up hating it. I know the same would happen with an e-book but it would be allot less trouble to get ride of it, and usually less expensive. But the look and feel of a physical book is still the best for me.

For me there's nothing like the physical book. It's healthier :P E-books makes my eyes hurt, gives me headaches and the feeling is completely different.

The traditional paper books are the best for me. I read e-books too but nothing beats to have an actual book in your hands. Sure it's more expensive and it can be tiresome to find a book that you want to read in bookstores, etc. but it's all worth it.

I like physical books best. I hate books on tape, I'm a fast reader so they'd just slow me down, and besides that I have a hard time paying attention to audio books.
I have read books online, but not actual E-books, mostly short stories and light novels I've found. I don't mind reading stuff online too much but I prefer physical books.

I like'em real. I can no longer find nearby Borders or any other bookstores. I really miss the experience of buying my books.

I literally hiss and make the cross motion when I pass E-books at the store to let the person who's with me know how much I hate E-books. I'm old-fashioned and love to hold a book in my hands and have my own personal volumes of books. I make memories with the books that I own and that is more important than conserving space. I love their smell and I like the covers and being able to touch a story.

>>16 I would be literally impressed if you literally make a cross sign and hiss every single time you pass an e-book at a store.

I prefer e-books to a wholesomely ultimate degree. It's the content that matters, not how it is delivered- I've never been affected by the purportedly orgasm-rivaling ecstasy other literature geeks seem to get from turning pages and smelling wood glue. Literature geek I am, e-books are much easier to travel with, more cost efficient, easier to finger around with, more difficult to severely fuck up, I could go on quasi-infinitely.

I guess it's just how minimalistic and progressive I am, but I can't really see why you'd prefer physical books.

I prefer a small paperback novel but audiobooks such as Henry Rollins' 'Get In The Van' are totally awesome. Not a fan of ebooks. At all. There is something special about the feel, weight and smell of a paperback.

I like owning physical books but I have a lot of trouble reading them. I generally download PDFs to my computer or phone so I can see it properly but end up buying physical copies.
Like >>20 says, ebooks are far more portable and easier to take care of. When you've got vision problems like mine they're a lifesaver, but I love having a real book in my hands anyway.

I've never really liked ebooks, though I'll periodically read books that were written by young authors online. I frankly find ebooks hard to concentrate on. Staring at a screen with the amount of concentration I prefer to put into a book just gives me a headache. Yeah, they're more portable. Yeah, they're cheaper and easier. Yeah, there are a lot of authors who only do ebooks because real books are too expensive to publish.

Nevertheless, they're just not for me. They just don't look or feel right, and even though I do read a bit online, I've never been able to get into it. I couldn't imagine sitting down with an overheated Kindle trying to read electronic text. I'd rather sit down with a plump book in hand, finger the paper as I flip the page, bend the corners where I leave off... you can't do any of that with an ebook. You're kind of missing out on the whole experience of reading not just a story but a book.

For those complaining about the portability of books, I personally prefer to not be able to take a bunch of books with me. I do enjoying reading, yes, but I don't want to be "that one guy" ignoring the discussions around them and reading a book. If I'm on a trip, I'll just take a small paperback to read during the travels; beyond that, I'd rather be conversing with the people with me or doing something productive with my excess time. I do most of my book reading at home in the comfort of my own bed where my bookshelves are within reach.
