I have to read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and write an essay and dialectal journals on it. I read the first chapter and it really isn't hooking me in. Have you guys read it before? Does it get interesting?

It gets pretty good, in my opinion. Just keep reading it. You don't have a choice if it's homework.

It's okay

I was told it's a fantastic piece of literature, timeless, life-changing etc.
Not really, lol

I just don't see it. The story itself and the meaning behind it is well written, but eh. I've read better. The middle-end is where it's at.

Once Atticus takes the Tom Robinson case, it starts getting pretty interesting. People have different tastes. I can't say for sure if you'll ever find it interesting, but it isn't too shabby. Besides, you're going to have to read it either way since you have an essay on it.

Welp, Good Luck with that.

Oh I thought it wasn't that interesting too when I first read it, I didn't get past the first chapter but I had to read it in class so that's basically how I got through the book.

It's actually not that bad, you should actually read it and not just skim through Sparknotes. I say it's worthwhile to read, there are a few chapters that could've been left out but it's what makes up the book right?

The characters are pretty well developed, and so is the plot and moral, go give it a little time and more events are going to happen to captivate you.

TKMB isn't that bad. If you have any questions about it just read sparknotes or ask us. I thought it was pretty good. You just have to get into it.

To Kill A Mockingbird is a classic piece of literature. Any person who says they are a reader must read this book at least once in their life. I admit, the first chapter is boring, confusing, and flat out dull. But once you get to chapter 3 or 4 it gets a little comedic and all in all a good book. By the end you can tell why this book is time-less and will always be remembered. GO ATTICUS!

This >>5 >>6 I agree. And also if you are ever confused/lost and you get help from us or sparknotes, it wouldn't hurt to make notes on things. Just to get full understanding.

Many people like it but I don't think it's worth the hype. I actually own the book but I felt that it was good, a great diversion and entertaining. It wasn't AMAZING and the ending fell flat. Everything else, I'm sure you'll enjoy.

I wouldn't call it great, but it's definitely decent once you get through the introductions. Unfortunately, it's likely to be one of the best you're required to read in your time in school...

There are some spots where it gets a little dry, but there are bits here and there that make it worthwhile to me (but I hate HAVING to read books like that. I like to just read it.)

I'm actually where Atticus starts to take on the case. I admit, once I gave it a shot, the story picks up more. I'm still not completely sold over this. But who knows, maybe I'll end up liking it as I read on.

I read the book as one of the novels I had to read this year for school. Trust me, it definitely gets exciting and interesting as you read on.

I read this in school. To be honest the only thing that really grabbed my attention in the whole book was the court case. But by the time thats over the book is pretty much done. To be honest i thoughtthe ending sucked.

The ending made me want to throw a camel at someone's desk chair.

it is a good book. Most people enjoy reading it. It does get better the further you get.

i personally thought that the book was a very (VERY) slow read, but it did however have a lot of heart

I haven't read this book even though it is listed in a large list of books that are required to read for English courses in high school. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a fictional story with historical settings dated later after the Great Depression. The American classic literature portrays about not just about racial discrimination against blacks back then, but how those were given unfair trials after being accused for crimes they did or did not committed.
