You know, I just noticed this. Obltius' normal citizens aren't allowed to use technology, so how do they get from one area to another? That would mean no cars or railroads, and Oblitus is pretty damn big, too big for easily walking from one Line to another. Damnit.

Any suggestions on how to work around this? :|

They can't have watches or clocks or phones or anything like that; everything is sent through letters and mail. Enforcers are stationed everywhere (there are a shitton of them; a lot more than the character spots provided), closer together in the Central, and then they space out as you go down the Lines. But that way, citizens don't really need a phone to contact them if something is wrong. Again, though, transportation. Should there be a system of railroads set up by The Church anyway, just to avoid plotholes? Since The Church can use technology; citizens and Enforcers just can't, but if it's made by The Church, it would make sense... I think.

I think IDs are too simple. As screwy as The Church is, I think they're smart enough that they wouldn't have your Line marked by something so easy stolen. Your Line would have to be marked on you by something permanent. I'm going to make it so there's a small brand on the right hands of citizens and Enforcers that has the letter of their line (C/M/O/E), and they would check that before you board. You can edit your profile with any additional stuff that's affected by it :O (E would stand for Enforcer; they have permission to go anywhere except The Church. And those from The Church wouldn't have brands at all.)

I don't doubt that there's a way to get past security to higher Lines, but it's not easy nor simple. And be careful with your rebellious character; I said that Enforcers were strict for a reason. If he does something past the limit, we're not going against the story to save his ass lol You better work out a damn good plan to get him out of any of those situations.

Anyway, I'll go edit that now and then post with whatever characters can be used at the moment ;P

Plumbing is going to be kept simple. Everyone has a sink and toilet, but showers and baths would be public, two large ones (each gender) for every five streets of each Line. I'll add that to the tech description on the site ;O I wish this stupid program would upload the Map. I think I'm going to upload my crappy map here for visual purposes.

I have a character that would work in this RP, but I would have to know the nature of the theology associated with The Church.

From what I can tell, it seams somewhat related to a Catholic setup, but what exactly do they worship? The website said that prayer was an hour at noon to the Clocktower, but nothing to the effect of what is actually worshiped.

If it has something to do with God in a Judeo-Christian standpoint, and the Clocktower has some connection to their definition of God, my priest character could work in a 'just starting out' setup.

Another thing I'm getting is that the Church could have their own hidden agenda, but would they hide that agenda with an air of charity and kindness towards those less fortunate? Or is it just full on 'do as you're told' kind of religion?

The Church, as I said on the site, is a complicated mishmosh of religions mixed with an unrealistic idea of futuristic technology. Their "God" is a genderless higher being who controls the outcome of every decision made. The story goes that God gave up his physical body to create The Clocktower and is now an invisible entity whose technology is so advanced it doesn't even need a phsyical state; it can delve into the subconsciousnesses of every human. God set up The Forbiddens (through The Pope's voice, supposodly), so anyone who disobeys and isn't stopped by God is assumed to be non-human (demon) and must be thrown into the outer world. God is the creator of time and is the only one able to control it; God protects them from the horrors of the outside world.

I don't really want to say how The Pope came into existence, just because it would be more interesting to slowly reveal. I hope you understand that.

And, no, they do not hide behind an air of charity. The laws are strict, and how you're treated/what rights you have/et cetera depend on what Line you were labeled as at birth. How are you labeled? Well, children are labeled and named by The Church. Each child is confiscated and brought within The Church at birth, where "God" tells The Pope (well, the Head Monk, really) what your position is. In reality, most of these decisions are made with a super computer which is within The Pope. Again, nobody except the Head Monk know that The Pope is really just an exceptionally advanced automaton.

Most people in The Church honestly believe in God and The Pope's abilities. They believe that God gave them the advanced technology they have. They believe God decided everything, paritcularly that God decided what Line people are in and their resulting rights.

Regarding the Afterlife, The Church believes the energy (I guess we would see it as the "soul") of each person who dies is collected by God and used to power The Clocktower, keeping God's phsyical (though transformed) body strong.

One more thing - let me remind you that these are The Church's beliefs. The real situation all goes back to Nullus, the genderless "God of Time" (The Puppetmaster) who has existed since long before Earth was even created. It is unknown in the story right now if Nullus is the only "God"/"Devil"/"Stupidly Powerful Being"; if it can fit into the story, I would be willing to bring in other Gods of different things later on in the plot.

See, that's why I needed to know that. The character I have in mind wouldn't work at all in this RP. I'll see if I can't, in my spare time, hash a character out for kicks. But I don't foresee anything in this scenario working very well without some effort.

My apologies for making you type all that out, but I hope it helps someone else who's looking into a character within the Church.

I added the story for when Sarah meets Thom to the sight. I figured it'd explain things better than I can. It's partially there to explain why The Enforcers don't care what she does. It's partially there to explain how Thom and Sarah act when/if they meet in the RP. It's partially there because I thought of it.

Cardinals are allowed to use the underground pathways and wander about as they like. The Church knows about almost everything that goes on. As long as your character isn't causing harm, they're usually not going to be dragged back to The Church for a while. They eventually are, but it's not a big deal for a Cardinal to leave. Cardinals are the only members of The Church who are really active outside, mainly because they're not accepted much in The Church and have that priviledge.

Monks don't sit around on the outside waiting. In fact, Monks aren't allowed to go anywhere aside from their quarters at the lower levels of The Church's palace. The High Monk controls the Pope in secret. He is allowed to go to higher levels than the Monks, but he's still low on the food chain.

You might want to go reread the page 'The Church' with that in mind and make sure the situation you're making fits with that.

Hrms. Since there probably won't be much activity with The Clocktower for a while (if our characters value their lives, that is), I think I'm going to post some side stories. Because of how long Nullus, the demons, and the dolls have been around, they have a lot of fun stories. I think I'll finally write up the story of The Mechanic, as well as that of Sally's grand father's expedition. They'll have to be referenced later, anyway :O

Anyway, our characters are on their way to the Outer Line. If it's not realistic for her to get that far, I can have her interact with Cross. (Just some ideas.) If just interacting with him isn't enough and you want in with Sally/Thom/Sarah, all your character has to do is show Cross her hand. Enforcers have to listen to Church members, even if they're just servants, and she can order him to get her privately onto The Rails to the Outer Line.

Anyway, yeah. You can also have her go wandering around tonight and Sally or Thom can find her depending on who is wondering about. Probably Sally. Thom is under surveillance.

She's tiny, isn't she? After that, Sally could stuff her in the oversized luggage bag she's going to bring and take her to the Outer Line ;D /jk...kindof

If you hadn't roleplayed before, Anu, you could have just asked for some more information. When you're roleplaying, you play the role of your character and your character only. You say what your character says, and you say how they reaction. We're not creating a story together; we're playing the roles of different characters and interacting together. If you try to play the role of someone else's character, it's godmodding.

I have some questions though:
- It says that no written documents are allowed about experiences and such, but are drawings allowed or are they banned too?
- When you get chosen to be what Line you're in, do you get put in families, stay with families until a certain age, or do you live on your own?
- Are there marriages and holidays?
- Until when do the schools stop/go on break? And do the children go until 18 or do they go when it seems that their education is complete? And is it the elementary/middle/high school format?
- Are there seasons in Oblitus?
Sorry for the shitload of questions, but the character I want to create is a Center Line character, so... yeah.

I read the post. You answer is simple. Take out the parts that involve you controlling Barabi's character. If you need to shorten a post in order to continue, so that you know how she responds, then do it. You've seen some of mine and BarabiSama's posts. They can be short or long depending on whether you need character reaction or not. We don't ask for super long posts. Just not one liners. Be descriptive of YOUR character. I have posts that are one paragrap long for crying out loud.

I didn't want to get involved, but I had to say that.

And the character's also a child, so school'd be an important thing for him. Also, how long should the confirmation e-mail take to arrive?

If the Marriage has nothing to do with the religion, then you can put it with family. To be honest I was curious about the family thing to. It might be relevant for Sarah.

It may or may not be your own depending on whether or not you got put back into your own Line. You don't have to be put to a "family", either. Kids are often put to single people, as well. Enforcers are in charge of putting kids with whoever will take care of them. Sometimes, pregnancies are hidden so women can stay with their children - that is illegal because the children would have no brand. Those women are sent to The Outside.

- Are there marriages and holidays? No to marriages, yes to holidays. Just come up with the holidays as you go. Be creative, and ask them first. As I said on the site, one of the main holidays is The Church's yearly event where they explain (/coughliecough) about how Oblitus came to be. I'm still thinking that part of the story over, though, so... yeah. Let's put that holiday off a little :T lol

- Until when do the schools stop/go on break? And do the children go until 18 or do they go when it seems that their education is complete? And is it the elementary/middle/high school format? I forgot about education >| All I commented on was The Church's involvement. Lemme whip up an explanation (I'll add it to the site later):

"There are three schools per line. Certain streets are designated to go to certain schools. The schooling isn't dependent on your age, but rather your skill. You can be eighteen and still be in a first year class if you're just not good at school. However, if you're very smart, you can finish quickly. It isn't difficult to bribe your way out of school, and if you're a smooth talker, some teachers are easy to convince to go easy. The Church has strict regulations for teachers, but they rarely come to check to make sure those regulations are being heeded to. The schools go on break for holidays. They also have a one month break in the winter and a two month break in the summer."

- Are there seasons in Oblitus? Yes, there are. But let's have fun with it ;D In Winter, it's very cold and snows quite a bit. In Summer, it's disgustingly hot out. In Fall and Spring, it's very nice, although there may be gusts of cool/hot air every now and again/ it rains a lot in Spring. Right now, the story is taking place in Fall. Also, every three years, there is a fifth season called Still. There is absolutely no wind at all during Still, and the air is usually very thick, sometimes foggy, almost smoggy at times. Nothing grows well, and it's just not pleasing to be outside for any reason.

@Kie, I read your character profile on the site and would write this there but something is wrong with either my computer or the site or both: Since my character is always wondering around in the Center Line and your character lives there it would be likely that they've run into each other before. What do you think about it?

anubis. Don't plan when people will find out ahead of time. I think you should let the character act and not act for the character. That is why I keep posting the disclaimer that I'm not responsible for the stupidity of my characters. I do not control them. They control themselves. Maybe that's just my author side coming out.

On a second note, Thom'll wonder why you won't show your face. He's suspisious of everyone.

I've got to say this is so intriguing and interesting. One question though. It's regarding the Time Demons. What exactly do they do? Cause I didn't quiet understand what they do.

They watch over the puppets and humans alike, and they often wander through time to satisfy their own curiosities. The main reason that they are useful is because they can be brought together. Nullus has made an unknown number of them, and if that number is large and she called them all together, think about what they could do. They're like an army that's ready to be called together on the spot.

Uh, Kie? Just noticed something in your post. It's understandable since it wasn't on the site until now, but we had mentioned it earlier. The Rails go down daily, but the second set of rails that come to pick people up only comes once a month. There are special houses for those of higher Lines coming through lower Lines. Your character wouldn't be able to go back and forth between them every day.

The reason for this is exactly that the Rails are part of "a gift from God" and cannot be "used nor taken that lightly."

Then I'll modify the post for him to go on a month-long study. is that alright? It'll be easier anyways to see why'd Crest get so anxious about it.

School goes on until you've gotten to the point where you can get a passing grade on the exit exam. It's a 10-grade system with no preschool or kindergarden.

You do whatever job the family that took care of you did unless a Church member or Enforcer tells you otherwise. All in all, jobs aren't really necessary. You get rations whether you work or not, and the currency that you do get from working can only be used to get jewelry, fabric, extra rations, church coupons (you can exchange them for Church merchandise, such as likes praying cards), or bribing people. Having money isn't too important unless you're on the shadier side of the deal (and/or are from the Outer Line, since money isn't too common there and it can get you a lot). Middle/Center Line citizens get enough materials every week when rations are given out to get by fine without jobs.

You /can/ work outside your Line, but since you can only got Lines lower than your own, it's usually better business in your own Line. Most people don't "get jobs" per se. Rather, they have their own businesses, whether they be bakers, designers, whatever. Use your imagination, but remember Oblitus' limitations.

Ex; Sally uses the barter system rather than working with money. She makes toys and other simple things for people, and in exchange, they'll keep something a secret, give her a piece of information or extra rations, et cetera.

Rations generally include food/ingredients, fire wood, oil, et cetera. The amounts depend on the Line. Normal rations are given out once a week. However, one a month, there are special rations that give extra special ingredients/condiments or beauty products (make-up, mirrors, clippers, et cetera). Sometimes the special rations will have a theme. Say, if the theme is building, you may get window glass, nails, normal wood, et cetera.

Once a year, each citizen is given a set of tools, utencils, and pots/pans.

Water is not a part of rationing in the Center Line. They have running water. In the Middle Line, each block has a water pump where they can get semi-decent water. In the Outer Line, there is a water pump every other street, and the water isn't the cleanest.

Rations also come with the equivalent of 50 dollars weekly.

Anyone want to help me come up with a currency and/or exchange rate? I'm lacking the imagination I need to do so.

Well, it's not really that you /can't/ do another job aside from what your family did. It's just that you probably wouldn't know how to do anything else unless you know someone else who did it well and/or figure it out on your own.

By the way, yes the wood carvings are confiscated as "proof that Thom knows more than he's letting on". Seeing that only a knife could make them, and a knife would be a weapon. The rocks though, are just rocks he's found on the street that he thought looked cool. Nothing special there. Since the wood carvings are really illegal, they're just "border line", but since the enforcers hate him, they confiscate them every time they do inspections.

I CAN'T HELP IT THAT SALLY HAS A STALKER! Thom wouldn't have went there, had Srenal not been stalking Sally. Besides, the kid followed Thom. That's not my fault either. I hold no responsibilities in what my characters to.

I'll stop putting breaks between Srenal and Thom if they're talking to each other, but I feel that the POV shift between my characters is necessary to show why they're acting the way they are. It's even more confusing with the change of another personality taking over Srenal.

Srenal's just watching, and I didn't think that deserved any room on my post. It's not time for her to act yet.

I can always add it in, but I didn't really think it was necessary before. It probably wouldn't have a harsh punishment, though, especially not in the Outer Line, since, well, some people /live/ on the streets. It's not something that can be enforced well anyway. I mean, every Line is filled with methods of avoiding the Enforcers prying eyes during the day - nevermind at night. And the punishment can't be that hard, because kids aren't spared when it comes to punishments, and a kid running out of the house at night probably wouldn't be something too unusual.

Here's some social aspects of the Lines, by the way, so you guys can understand the differences. I'll add some of this shiznit to the site later. [Also, yes. Pretty much every Line is conspiring against the gov't in this story in some way.]

A lot of people are on the streets at night in the Outer Line since not everyone can afford to feed their designated family. It's not uncommon for kids to get kicked out. Even though it has a lot less when it comes to rations, there's a lot of corruption in that Line, as well as a lot of favoritism and choosy punishing. Some people may be punished while others are not. A lot of the Enforcers that usually take care of the Outer Line aren't huge fans of their jobs at all, nevermind being in that area (remember, being an Enforcer is something you're designated as at birth. You have to be one even if you don't want to be once they plaster that E on your hand), so they aren't huge on the whole "justice" thing. A lot of crimes happen, and a lot of people are disposed of. Remember, the Outer Line is a very short ride away from The Outside. All you have to do is chuck someone on The Rail and "off the edge of the world" they go.

The Middle line is more like the society we're used to, the middle class. Everything is pretty normal there. There are a lot of crimes, and most of the conspiracies that start in the Outer Line finish in the Middle Line. It's rare for someone to get kicked out, and if they are, someone is always willing to let them in. It's more of a community in the Middle Line.

The Center Line is rather flambouyant. The houses are big, the decor is tacky, and crime is not really rare, but it's very under the table. Anybody removed from a house is shunned, and those people usually move out of the Line. The Center Line is really the only Line with resturaunts (more like spies who feed you), which are given extra rations as payment for doing information jobs for The Church. Of course, the public thinks they get extra rations because God told The Church to do so to give the loved people of the Center Line such a treat. Because everything is under the table, a lot of the mansions are secretly connected, and there are a lot of hidden rooms and such full of information or conspiracy. Not everyone is in on it, but plenty are.

Yes, there is a curfew, but the punishment isn't too strict, and most people manage to not get caught anyway. The punishment would probably be a "ticket" of sorts (basically, a fine with a due date). Considering they only get a small bit of money every week, I would say 30 bucks is a sufficient fine.

Aro & Pierce & Crest - Twincest happened. Aro is currently sexually abusing Crest. /shot

Roka & Dante - The two agreed to be friends. Dante turned into a gigantic lion and ate the bodies of the Enforcers that Roka killed. Dante walked away, leaving Roka at the bloody scene, where three Enforcers caught him. Dante and Roka both warped away to their respectable places.

Malorn - He found the three Enforcers that Roka had warped away from and asked them to explain themselves. He then told them to not try to fight with any of the 'monsters' and went off looking for them.

Jax - His men came back from a raid to inform him that it was unsuccessful. He sent them away with a message request a positive ID on a few suspects, and he asked them to bring it to his assistant, Malorn, so that he could bring it to the captain, General Cross.

Adrian - He was out past curfew wandering around when he caught sight of a few Enforcers. Worrying about his educational status and his brother's reputation, he jumped in the sewer to hide and kept walking, eventually finding that the tunnel lead him all the way to the Outer Line.

Sally & Thom & Srenal - Sally caught Thom preparing to go into one of the rooms she said he couldn't go into. The two had a slight arguement. They went in the last room to check on Dante, but he wasn't there. Sally tried to take a nap in the bed there, and Thom went back to the living room to think. At that point, Srenal warped into the room (Sally thought she just quietly climbed in once she noticed her) and got caught by Sally. She gave Dante's journal back to her, and the two promised to keep the meeting a secret. Srenal climbed out the window; Sally sat reading Dante's journal.

Sally & Dante - Right as Srenal was coming out of the window to leave, Dante warped next to Sally's house. He hid, and once she was gone, he warped back into the room, only to catch Sally reading his journal (to Sally's surprise). At her submission, he sat down and explained everything about his situation, his life, and what he was. After she asked about The Clocktower, he gave her a few puppet keys and left the room. He passed out in the hallway.

Dem profiles. I should have read them earlier. There are issues.

Here's information that I already mentioned about Enforcers:

Being an Enforcer isn't something that you choose to do as you get older. It's something that you're born into, which is why you have the E brand on your hand. You're still designated a family, but you're told to prepare for your important job, and you spend your entire life training to be an Enforcer (whether you like it or not). Even your position in the Enforcers is predesignated, and once you're done training, you get the job.

Things I didn't mention:

When you get the job after training, whoever was in position teaches you for two weeks before letting you take over. Because Enforcers can go to all the Lines, order is necessary. They are properly trained in one Line only. The Enforcer Academy (which is more like a training facility) is only in the Center Line.

Things I remember mentioning but didn't get on the site:

In fact, Enforcers are supposed to stay in the Center Line until they're fully trained.

I don't know what you guys want to do about this. I mean, it totally kills the profiles you've got :\ I was going to just let the last part slide, but then I read over the whole profiles and checked the site, and I realized you guys didn't match up with a lot of things. I'd like to ask that you adjust your profiles accordingly. There are plenty of ways to make your characters come out with the same personalities so that it doesn't affect the current story, but your characters pasts are just totally polar to the actual situation with Enforcers.

You can bitch at me as you like. I wouldn't have enforced (/badpun) the things I didn't mention if there was nothing else screwy; I would have just changed the story a bit. However, since you have to change it to fit the things I did mention anyway, I'm going to update the site and ask that you include these things in your profiles.

Also, I'm adding a new Enforcer position called a "Line Captain." There will be one per Line, and they're like one step down from the Cap't/Vice Cap't/Assistant. They take charge of the smaller issues in the Lines individually, and they only cooperate when ordered by the Captain General during a big situation. (/coughliketheonenowcough)

Power-wise, they're definitely not the strongest Time Demons, but when they come together and use their double-headed strategies, they can usually win over opponents.

He's basically a fun person, but he's a bit dangerous and has a horrible method of running things. He's way too into the underground deals. He loves gambling, drinking, and good looking women. Basically, he just loves to have fun with money that isn't always his. He's not really a "bad" person, though. He does what he wants at his own pace, but it's not like he's some mass murderer (/ahem). The people he steals from dislike him, but the people he deals with and hangs out with, as well as those who he turns a blind eye to, are big fangs of his.

And as I said earlier, currency is a bigger deal in the Outer Line and Center Line. It's not used much in the Middle Line. In the Center Line, there are a lot of resturaunt-type places and luxurious clothing stores (in the other Lines, there are fabric stores instead since they can't afford to make clothing that may not be liked, so you often have to make your own clothing), et cetera, which use money. In the Middle Line, all they really have are bakeries, fabric stores, et cetera. In the Outer Line, there is more money than there should be, although regular "stores" are rare. Because the Center Line uses money so much to deal, and a lot of the more interesting underground type stores are in the Outer Line, they deal with one another more than you'd think.

In the lower ends of the community, there's bartering, but you can get more for your bucks than for a steak.

Ah. I should explain farming and such to explain where the food comes from... OIWHGOAHWEG. Gusy, never make a roleplay that has a new, unorganized system of government. There's way too much to plan out. Every time you think you've written everything you need to write, there's still more.

(Even if you try not to, it does happen.) So, I'll take both you guys and your characters by surprise one day and be all, "OMAIGAWDITSSTILLGUYS."

It seems that Thom and Dante are always going at it. The fact that Thom's tired, and he doesn't know what to do about Dante makes things worse.

Yeah and Dante is in no condition to fight right now. He hadn't needed to warp so much in one day for years and as for the transformation if he stops doing it after a while (in this case a year) his body will be in extreme pain the next time he does it.

Are the enforcers in training kept in dorms or do they stay with a parent near the academy?

Are enforcers able to graduate early or is it for a predetermined amount of time?

What is the average age of graduation?

Are enforcers allowed to pick their own weapon and train with it, or is there a general enforcer weapon?

How are enforcers promoted, is it by favoritism, hand-picked by higher ups, by experience, competence, or is it something else?

And last but not least, at what age are people branded to their line?

Once you're on the Rail, it doesn't discriminate between the Line your from. Middle and Central Line passengers can sit wherever they like. It's the same Rail. It picks up people from Central, drop some at Middle, picks up people from Middle, drops the rest at Outer, and then drives off a cliff.

By the way, dunno if you guys saw the first Cross post I did of him on the Rail. The Rails are extremely gaudy looking. They're overy decorated and very flambouyant on the inside. They also have free fruity drinks and perfectly purified water. All you can drink for the length of the ride. (No alcoholic beverages, unfortunately.)

Also, it doesn't cost anything to go on the Rails, mainly because it's an annoying process getting back to where you're from, and you're also not expected to pay for a, "gift from God."

Higher level Enforcers have tunnels underground that they can use to get from Line to Line. They're not as ritzy as The Church's tunnels, but they're tunnels nonetheless. They're supposed to stay secret from lower level Enforcers, though.

Nah, brah. That's what we like to call, "godmodding." You can't control someone else's character. You can only say what your character has to say. You can't say how the other character reacts at all - not what they do nor what they say. That's the point of making a profile and taking on a specific role.

Also, that's not how the reports work, and I doubt Malorn could do what Cross had been doing every month since he became the Captain General lol I figured I would wait to see if you agreed to have Cross explain the reports. They have to be read and checked to make sure that everything was properly handled, and then they have to be signed. It's not like anybody's checking to make sure it's Cross's hand writing, though ;O
