Poetry Out Loud Project (7)

Ok so for english class, I have to do a project where I choose a poem off of a website called www.poetryoutloud.org and then memorize it and present it to the class.

I checked out the site for myself and there is TONS of poetry on there. I can't decide which one to do. I made up a list of possibilites, but I want to see if I can find more.

I was wondering if some of you guys could post your favorite poems on this thread to help me out (it does not have to be from poetry out loud, i can look it up myself to see if it is on it because odds are, it is.) If some of you could do this for me it would be a GREAT help!

Oh, god. Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe is my absolute favorite poem.

__________________________

"It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea. "

>>2, I'm rather partial to Poe myself.

I would have to go with Tyger by William Blake (some people spell it Tiger but I like this spelling better).

#2 is Jaberwocky from Through the Looking Glass. This one has quite a bit of nonsense words though so it can be hard to memorize.

>>2 It sounds good, I may consider it to be one that I use :)

>>3 I have never heard of Tyfer but I will look it up. I LOVE Jaberwocky but someone already has that taken haha XD and I remember Through the Looking Glass, but I have not seen it in a while so I will check it out.

>>4 Here it is:

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art.
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

And grr, the Jabberwocky is amazing. I have it memorized.
