A long time ago I made a thread for a story everyone would take part in. It worked out very well; I was so happy it did. Now let's try it again, this time a little different.

Rule: You can only do one sentence per post.

Characters: Xavier Green (protagonist)
Mike Herndon (antagonist) Flora Thomas (love interest)
Other Characters: Phillip Hupp, Joshua Davidson, Andrew Yo

Okay, you put the story together and have fun. All events must be made up or inspired by true events, please be careful while doing this.

The alarm clock sounds off, waking up Xavier Green from what he titled "The Best Dream Ever".

Walks to school waiting...
Sits in class just waiting, waiting to finally get out of here...
Waiting to be free..
Her day dream reveals scenes of horrors deciet and lies...
"To think this is my reality..." these r the words she mutters to herself everyday as she goes the same routine over and over and over.
"Flora hey" she hears the voice from a distance and recognizes her childhood friend, who she just may love alittle too much. " no..." she thinks to herself." he would never fall for ME..."

"Hey Xavier!", she exclaims while waving him over; wiping her previous thoughts from her mind, "What's up? You going somewhere afterschool?"

"Ah- Uh.." Xavier freezes up and struggles to get out the words, but eventually manages to say what sounds like a nonchalant "No, why?"

"Oh, n-no reason. Just seemed like you were in a bit of a hurry is all..." she replied as they walked along the sidewalk towards the mess of traffic in town.

Oh wow, the 1 sentence rule is going to make it difficult to elaborate on specific details, then. It's pretty hard to jam an idea into a sentence without making it a run-on.

They walked slowly in silence, until Xavier heard a familiar voice shouting out, "Yo Green!"

Xavier looked over his shoulder to see who it was.

It was Andrew Yo signalling him into the car, "Sorry to spoil the moment but we got that to take care of Xavier...Remember?"

Xavier knew he had a previous commitment that afternoon, but he really didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to talk to Flora.

Thus, he kept on walking, and waved back at Andrew, "Yeah, yeah, I'll meet you there!"

(On a comical note all I can think of after writing this is Yo in the background bein all "This displeases me >:I")

As he continued walking, he could hear Andrew's voice trailing in the distance, shouting, "Don't forget bro!"

Xavier looked back at Andrew while walking, which was a mistake because he ended up tripping on the flat ground.

Flora tried to stifle her laughs but to no avail, after a few seconds she gave up and just chuckled as quietly as she could while covering her mouth with her hand.

SLAP went his face as it hit the cold pavement, which was damp from last night's rain.

Xavier tried to hide his face from the embarrassment as he struggled to get up.

Flora stopped giggling long enough to extend a hand and smiled as she helped him up, before bursting out laughing again; "S-sorry, but- but what did you even trip on?" she said between laughs.

"No idea" he said as Flora helped him to his feet, as he did he looked up at her and was instantly mesmerized by the sight of her giggling, In his eyes, she seemed to glow.

Without a notice, the 2 continue to walk away without noticing that they had tripped over a badge of probably a member of some group, Not knowing that it was a badge that would change their fates.

Flora blushed at the realization she was being stared at and looked away quickly, drawing her attention to one of the neighborhood children washing a family of ducks out of the yard with a water hose; Xavier's meeting with the pavement had been momentarily forgotten as they watched the mother duck ferociously attack the water hose to save her babies.

Xavier turned away just as quickly as Flora, he looked the other way, back to what had made him trip, it was shining in the relatively bright sunlight, jabbed into a crack in the sidewalk, standing out from the small surrounding puddles that also reflected the sun.

He peered at it, noticing that it was a badge of some sort, but he couldn't read what it said; Flora tugged his arm, and Xavier noticed that he had come to a dead stop trying to read the badge, so he resigned himself and started walking again.

"I go this way. I'll see you later," Flora said as we reached a fork in the road, to which neither road leads to my house; just the need to walk with Flora strays me from my own path most often times.

Xavier checked his watch, "oh look at the time", he said.

" It's almost time for me to go to Andrew."

Meanwhile, at the aforementioned's house, a large box covered in chains and under lock was being stored in the garage.

A large shadow crept over the box as the garage door opened; The shadowcaster began laughing manically until he was slapped in the back of the head by none other than Joshua Davidson; "Cut it out, Andrew. Now what am I doing here? And why isn't Xavier here yet? Or, ya'know, more importantly, what do you have chained up in there, a lion?"

Andrew rubbed the now growing sore spot on his head, all the while, grinning like a complete maniac. "you'll find out soon enough Josh. But for now, we wait."

Joshua sighed; "All I've been doing is waiting, you took forever to get home. How much longer?"

"Not much longer. Just as soon as the sun sets, as usual" He glared at the still setting sun. "It's more fun in the dark."

Joshua grabbed a lawn chair out of the corner of the garage, set it up, then plopped down on it, resting his feet on the box; "What to do in the meantime?"

Andrew thought it over. "well you could apologize.... then think of something. i'm out of ideas."

"Psh, apologize for what? You deserved it!" He spat.

Andrew laughed and looked at the sky for what seemes like the thousanth time. "yeah probably.... Wait, when is xavier supposed to get here?"

"Pff you went to get him, how should I know?" There was a long pause before Josh spoke up again; "Should we go kidnap him? Like, tie him up in a dufflebag and drag him here? I'm sick of waiting."

"That would be fun wouldn't it?" Andrew asked. "let's give him a,few more minutes... It would be dumb if he was already on his way here. It would be a waste of energy."

"....When he gets here, I'm beating him senseless for making us wait this long." Was Joshua's eerily serious response.

"fine with me." Andrew replied just as xavier rounded the corner.
"sorry i'm late. I couldn't ditch her."

"No worries bro, Actually....to be honest...You're just in time" He replied with a huge unknown smile in his face

Xavier had a bad feeling after Yo's response, but he acted too late; before he realized it, Joshua had him in a headlock and was scruffling his hair, "Do you have ANY idea how long we've been waiting?! You could've at least called so we could pick up some food! Or did you mysteriously lose your new expensive cellphone?" before Xavier could respond, he was dropped, and Joshua waltzed over and sat on the chained box; only to feel it move.

"yeah I wouldn't do that if I were you. That box is protecting you right now... I guess you're dying to find out though..."

Joshua jumped down startled; "P-protecting me? Or him? WHAT? Man, you really did buy a lion, didn't you?!"

Andrew laughed. "God I wish... No it's nothing like that." He looked at the sky again. "i guess now's as good a time as any." He reached into his pockets. "now where did I put that key?"

While Andrew searched his person for the key to the lock, Joshua had begun inspecting the box, "So, it's something dangerous right? What exactly is it?" he laughed a bit, "Don't tell me it's some kind of monster."

"Well, it's obviously not an elephant, and I already told you it's not a lion. Anyways, you'll find out in a second." He said, waving the key triumphantly in the air. After a second, he held it out to xavier. "since you were late, you get the honors of risking a limb to find out." His wicked grin growing wider and wider as the sun went down.

"Well, it IS the elephant in the room! Eh? EH? Nothin'? Too lame?" Andrew just shook his head at the lame pun, and Xavier seemed to ignore it all together as he approached the box and grabbed the latch.

"well I for one hope that it's something that kills corny joke tellers. Or at least beats them senseless." Xavier said as he put the key in ihe lock. "am I close?" He asked andrew. He got no answer. He took a deep berath. "well here goes nothing" he turned the key and the locks just seemed to undo themselves.

The chains fell off and the box stood ominously, "So, uhhh....a-anybody going to open it?" Joshua spoke up; the other two shook their heads, to which he swiftly replied with a remark about being cowards; he took up a crowbar and poked the box, which he thought would do nothing, but he was wrong; the wooden pieces fell one by one.

all they could do to stop from running was realizing how pointless it would be. eventually, they were able to catch a glimpse of what was inside. it was stranger than anything they could imagine...

They could barely contain their fear, they were expecting a monster, and boy did they get one.

The monster's claws lifted up, and with the last gleaming of the sun, blood splattered across the concrete floor, leaving Xavier shivering on the floor, the dead bodies of his friends lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The beast grabs Xavier and holds him up to his red eyes. The beast speaks.
"I want OUT Xavier! You WON'T keep me locked up forever! One day you'll get your first taste, and you won't be able to control yourself. This may be a nightmare, but don't deny that you WANT this. This is ALL you've ever wanted! Its time that you WAKE UP and ACCEPT ME! WAKE UP!"

Ok...lets try to go back to the one sentence rule eh? XD

The next thing Xavier knew, he woke up in a cold sweat; "What? W-was that really all just a dream?" He picked up his phone and dialed his friends, whom soon answered, aggravated he was calling at 3am. "What could this mean? Was that...that monster, supposed to be a part of me? It felt so real....."He quickly disregarded the dream as a dream and nothing more, and went back to sleep; little did he know, that dream meant much more than he believed.

I used two sentences :c If of course we aren't counting dialogue. Then I've broken the rules tons of times prior xD

Yes, the monster was restless. It wanted to be released and it knew that Xavier could release it.

Sorry needed to use two sentences because once I thought of something I have to write it down. I'm a big storywriter.

The line connected and Andrew grunted, "Ugh...Hey man, nice night yesterday huh? You scare so easily...I can't believe you fainted haha. All that suspense for nothing though, there was nothing in the box, can you believe it?"

The next morning, Xavier woke up feeling paranoid. He instinctively pinched himself to certify reality.
"Wha-what the hell?" The dream had felt so real. Xavier rubbed his eyes and went downstairs with a strange craving for sausage and a strange detest for his moms already cooked pancakes.

I agree with seika about the whole rule thing. It's really no point now. I just said that because i didn't want the postmaker or whatever to close the thread. Imagination is a hard thing to contain. :D

Also, to that anonymous dude....or girl,:) Xavier was in a dream. So yeah....that didn't really happen.

Despite the dream being over, he felt a little off this morning, as though he wasn't fully himself; as he set everything up to start preparing his food, he shrugged the odd feeling off as "Hmph, I guess I must be coming down with something" and poured himself an extra helping of milk to help keep him healthy.

It is good limiting yourself (as I went a little overboard on the last Dollars Story xD)because if you can convey the same message with less words, likely you're a better writer. It's a nice challenge; though because it wasn't really specified if Dialogue counts as sentences with the way they talk or not, I'm not sure how far I went overboard on the challenge.

Though I agree, it is hard to limit yourself once you have an idea. How about keep it to one sentence if you can; if not, keep it below 3 sentences. Dialogue doesn't count for sentences, but huge paragraphs of dialogue, like speeches, unless it's a pretty well written speech that is crucial to the story progression, are not allowed. Sound good?

Also, with commas and semicolons, you can make a three page run-on sentence if you wanted; just sayin lol

"You don't want my pancakes?" said Xavier's mom. "C'mon, you always want my pancakes." Xavier just shrugged.
"Guess I'm coming down with something...you got any sausage or leftover hamburger meat"

Yes. I like that alot! : D It does make you a better writer I guess. That's what my teacher told me once. I used to hate limits, but after doing so many of them, I started writing very good stories with awesome endings that were only about 230 words, something I couldn't do before. She told me i was progressing. The funny thing is, the story had to have a set of words that the students picked. The words were pie, lion, eyebrow, green, and acid.

"No, your father just finished the rest of it before he left. You overslept a bit this morning." His mother said as she put a hand to his forehead; "Nope, no fever." She shot him a worried glance before turning to the fridge; "Be careful you don't catch anything at school."

I don't think I've ever had to do a limited words project for English; so this is a fun little challenge :3

And then it hit him all that once; his head was spinning, and he fell to one knee; the noise was outrageous, and the pain was...well, worse than your average headache; he was seeing what could be considered transparent images flashing before his eyes at an incredible speed, and despite the imagery being so familiar, he couldn't recognize or name any of the images if he tried. And then it stopped; out of absolutely nowhere, everything seemed to return to how it once was, minus a slight ringing in his ears and an insatiable irritated feeling; he looked up and around before even thinking about getting up, but of course, SOMEONE just had to come up and smack him on the back of his head.

After a few minutes of Josh looking concerned and Xavier just kneeling there in pain; he got up, took a deep breath, and the pain subsided; The ringing however, did not.

"let's just go." Xavier said. "the sooner this day starts, the sooner it can end."

yes I blame tv. Got my internet back for the day. The tv acts weird. Not my fault.

The school day was filled with annoyance and aggravation; the ringing had never subsided, but Xavier forgot about it completely; that is, when Flora walked by.

"Hello Xavier" she said smiling.

"Uh H-hello Flora." he stuttered but quickly composed himself; "What's up? Going somewhere?"

"just to my locker" she told him. "wany to join me?"

"Yes of course!" He happily obliged and walked silently beside her through the halls. "What are you getting from your locker? Stuff for your next class?" He asked due to lack of conversation.

"nope. My pet unicorn lives in there." She said. Xavier's eyes widened in shock until he realised that it was a joke. "yeah. My books."

"Eh-heh hah, lets hope your unicorn didn't eat them" he quickly retorted.

She almost fell over laughing. "yes. Let's hope so. Otherwise i'd have to steal yours."

"Haha, you wouldn't be able to handle my unicorn, it's badass; buff, has a mohawk and shades and-"
"And is bright pink." Flora cut him off before he could finish. They were silent for a moment before they both broke out in laughter.

They make it to flora's locker when things start going wrong. she opened it and there was pure nothingness. no books, no unicorn, nothing.
"Um flora? why is there a void in your locker?"
she laughs and turns to him. "To end people like you of course."

"You're k-kidding.... right? Flora? " he backed up into a wall. The hallway was empty now. Xavier looked around and saw nobody. Then all sounds stopped. Even the ringing in his ears had vanished. Something was wrong.

'Xavier! Run!" Andrew ran down the hall.

Without a second thought, Xavier bolted, but he didn't get very far before his pounding headache came back. All he could hear were voices, voices and more voices; he grabbed his head and started yelling in pain. When he opened his eyes again, he was floating in space "Did Flora...get me..? Was that Flora? Wait, where am I even?" as he looked around there was nothing, that is until his shadow appeared; it grew and grew, and then it spoke to him, "It's time."

"You don't know what I'm talking about?" said the familiar voice."You just had a DREAM last night that explains the whole sha-bang!" Xavier recognized the voice. The shadow materialized into the creature he saw the night beofre.
"The first person i'm gonna cut up when I get out of here is that girl you like so much." Xaviers chest tightened and burned with shock.

"Unless..." It spoke; Xavier parroted him; "Unless?"
"UNLESS" It roared, "you think you can tame me." Xavier took this moment to really draw in what the monster was. It didn't seem to have much of a form, just darkness emanating from a core; but when he looked at it, he could see what seemed to be a negative lion; It had more of a wolfish snout, but that mane was unmistakable; bright white eyes, and large non-retractable claws at least three inches long, and yet there was nothing defining what he was, in all reality it was just a large black mass,
"You can see my true form, correct?" It asked breaking Xavier from his observations, "That means you are the one. Either tame me or your entire world shall be destroyed. Everything you've ever loved will be gone. Man up or step aside. Which path do you choose?"

I haven't a clue. Perhaps someone was commenting and was unsatisfied or something?

"How long do I have to decide?"Xavier asked. Lookind at the beast's eyes, the answer didn't seem like it was going to be good. It would take at least four years for him to build up enough courage to even think of taming something like this. Let alone actually interacting with it.
"You have until your birthday. That's when I'll be freed."
"By who? "

"The universe. Your god. However you put it, the chains binding me have weakened, and soon they will break all together. This is fate. My ability to contact you, is fate. This meeting is fate. Your birthday is only 3 days away; I'd suggest you get on it." And with that he was gone. A blinding bright light brought him back to his hallway just as the last bell rung; "3 days. To tame that...that thing....or everything I love will be destroyed.." He leaned up against one of the lockers lost in thought; "What does taming that thing....require?"

"So you're daydreaming again huh Xavier? " Andrew waltzed up like nothing on earth was wrong.
"What?" Xavier asked, still lost in thought.
"You walked the girl of your dreams to her locker and zoned out for the rest of the day." He said.
"Nothing else happened? "
All Xavier got in response was an uncomfortable silence.

Oh no akward silence!!

If Andrew shut his mouth, it could only mean something terrible.
"What aren't you telling me Andrew?

"Ah-erm....what makes you think I'm hiding something?" This response only further confirmed Xavier's suspicions; "Ah, oh alright. I'll explain all of it later tonight when you come to visit. Until then, don't talk to Flora. After what happened earlier, I'm afraid you might fall for that fake's tricks. Just keep in mind that the real Fora is sick and I'll see you later."
And with that, Andrew left him in the hallway.

What on earth could he be talking about? Xavier thought on his way home. So many thoughts were going around in his head that he didn't have time to think of the ringing in his ears. Or what was causing it. The more he thought the more upset he found himself. By the time he got home, he was a nervous wreck. Couldn't I just stop over at Andrew's and get it over with? He thought as he paced in his room.

He plopped down on his bed. "I wish I could talk to that lion thing again..." he thought aloud. "I wonder what the conditions for taming it are?" he looked out the window beside his bed; "Because whatever's going on I'm gonna need all the help I can get..Perhaps it's time to try taming it? It seems to know what's going on afterall, and who knows if Andrew's a trap? Apparently Flora was..." he sighed and continued to think about the lion that grew from his shadow.

It seemed like forever until his thoughts stopped going a million miles an hour.
"Xavier! Are you okay? " his mom peered in through the door. She looked really upset.
"A giant shadow lion is trying to escape a prison that I'm sure has something to do with me if I don't tame it. My head won't stop spinning enough for me to think straight, and Andrew is hiding something from me. other than that I'm fine " Xavier said. Holding his head in his hands.
Her mother seemed shocked.

She had a look of disbelief on her face; Xavier then quickly added, "I just woke up, ma. What's wrong?" she seemed somewhat relieved knowing her son wasn't entirely insane and then proceed to tell him that her and his father had a heated argument and that she'd like him to head to Andrew's house before he tries to influence him with some of his nonsense about getting a gorilla to mow the lawn.

"It's okay I was heading down there anyways " he said putting on his jacket. He walked out the front door just as his dad spotted him.
"I'm not taking sides in this one dad! " he said. Before his dad had time to respond, he was already down the street.
"Let's try to make it there without any meltdowns shall we? " he told himself.

"You take the fun out of everything." It was that lion again; "What do you want now?" Xavier asked it to which the lion responded he was just bored. Xavier took this time to duck into an alleyway and interrogate it; "What does this taming require?" he asked it. "Simple, you simply need to give me reasons that I should trust you, reasons that I should take your side; well that and survive a few tests of my own and sign a contract. Essentially what it comes down to is if your body and mind are strong enough to handle my soul. Right now I'm in your shadow, so I can't do much at all, but I can be a valuable asset if we come to the right agreement. And no, before you ask, it's not possession, it's more like you're renting a room to me."

A shiver ran down his spine. "What kind of tests? " he asked.

"Tests of the mind, tests of the body, tests of the soul. All three happen simultaneously, so you'll likely only be consciously aware of the mind test." Was the lion's reply.

"Well, that sounds incredibly ominous," Xavier commented, "So if I do pass these tests, and we form an agreement, what exactly can you do for me, are you like the demon butlers from that one anime with the British kid?"

The shadow lion seemed offended by that. Before Xavier could take it back, the lion melted back into his shadow.
Xavier kicked himself and moved on. Just as Flora appeared. But was it really her? Andrew told him to avoid her and she hadn't seen him yet...

He quickly ducked out the other end of the alleyway and made his way to Andrew's house. Upon arrival, he was taken around to the back yard and led into the basement through the yard hatch; when he got down there, he saw that Joshua was already there, and so was a friend he hand't seen in years, Phillip. The boy who mysteriously disappeared from school when his parents were killed in a bus explosion; there were so many questions Xavier wanted to ask him but before he could even open his mouth he was told to sit down; no sooner had he sat did Phillip ask him, "How much does he know?" and then directed it at Xavier; "How much do you know?"

Xavier shrugged ..."I knew as much as you guys told me. Which is close to nothing .."

>>116 Well it's supposed to be an actual story. Gintama works only because it's got so many references and the story is so incredibly out there.
In order for a conversation to turn out as funny as it would in Gintama, we'd have to completely change the story and have every aspect of everything developed before continuing.
Trust me, I've tried writing stories like that where there are no real serious scenes. It's actually incredibly difficult without everything being written out beforehand.
