This is a three book series, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. It's a great series I loved it! It's written by Suzane Collons and it's great! READ IT!!!!

"sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once existed. This is where a government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of 12 districts for a massive televised battle in which only one person can survive."

"The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly Appalachia.[7]

As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol, every year, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected at random and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised event in which the participants, or "tributes," must fight to the death in a dangerous, outdoor arena, controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains. The story follows fatherless 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12, who volunteers for the 74th Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose. Also participating from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, a boy whom Katniss knows from school and who once gave her bread when her family was starving.

Katniss and Peeta are taken to the Capitol, where their mentor, Haymitch, a former tribute himself, instructs them to learn about the other tributes. They are then publicly displayed to the Capitol audience. During this time, Peeta reveals on-air his long-time unrequited love for Katniss. Katniss believes this to be a ploy to gain audience support for the Games, which can be crucial for survival, as audience members are permitted to send gifts like food, medicine, and tools to favored tributes during the Games. The Games begin with eleven of the 24 tributes dying in the first day, while Katniss relies on her well-practiced hunting and outdoor skills to survive. As the games continue, the tribute death toll increases."

It. Is. AMAZING! O_O

I've only read the first two books. Must. Read. Mockingjay.
I love these books. I usually get bored with books that don't have any supernatural beings or things, or humans having powers or whatever xD
But these books really got me hooked.

Ooh ooh

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)
(Ooh)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)

We've know each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

I read all three books and I must say it was excellent! The first and second book were awesome but to me the third wasn't all that great.

Halfay through Catching fire it starts to suck. Badly. Mokingjay is horrid. If you want to like the series only read the first book.

I finished Catching Fire months ago and have Mockingjay collecting dust on my bookshelf. I began to read it but I found a lot more interesting books to read so I sorta ditched it.
Can't wait for the movie though~

I enjoyed the entire series personally. The ending coulda been a bit more umph'd (of Mockingjay that is).

Regardless, I believe it was a good time investment.

Ok, yes the book gets a little bad around the end. But I still like the finish. It was realistic, and not happy, but aware. I like the fact its not a and they all magically lived happily ever after. (I hope I didn't spoil the ending too much!)

As much as I enjoyed this trilogy I have to stress how shocked I was at the depressing material and the graphic violence. The content itself wasn't what shocked me, per se, so much as a person's face melting off could be included in a book marketed at kids as young as 11-12.

I had to step away from THG by the end of Mockingjay because I was immensely shaken and upset. As I said, I hold these books in high regard, but I think their rating should be upped to at least OT/16+.

The trailers for the first movie look quite good, so even as I'm excited, I'm also wary of seeing it. Being a very emotional, sensitive girl I think I'll need to see it with friends or family who've already seen it, or who can help lighten the mood if I get too sucked in.

Alright, I just finished this series. It was a good thing to kill time on, but I disliked the fact that it was left slightly open ended. Dont worry, everyone lives!
I am not going to see it in movie form though, just because movies tend to be done half ass n end up being a huge clusterball of suck, not counting lotr or harry potter, and hopefully not the hobbit.

I loved all three of them, though the first one will remain my favorite. I'm pretty worried about the movie, however, considering how such things usually go down...

>>31 I agree~ I think the casting for Katniss and Cinna suck, really. Donald Sutherland as President Snow is pretty good though.

Another one of my favorite series! Love the books, they're literally amazing! The first is my favorite. Plus, the ending was very good as well. Overall a great series, it appeals to everyone and I'm glad more people are finally reading the series! I am eagerly awaiting the movie, I even want to go to the midnight showing! xP

My only complaint is how WHINY Katniss is in mockingjay -.-

Man, after I read this, I was stuck on it. I've read all three, and now that I've done that, reading other books is just....difficult. I always end up saying, "Suzzane Collins wrote better." Now I can't find a good book that compares to my new sense of of the words "Interesting and horrifying."

i watched the movie and now i can't wait for the second one

The Hunger Games.

I'll watch the movies, but I could only stomach the books ONCE.

The writing style was just SO choppy. The sentences were short and without any depth. No doubt that the plot was AMAZING, but at the same time I thought it just underrepresented the whole premise of THE HUNGER GAMES.

The Games were created to teach the various Divisions that they were overall powerless against the Capitol. I expected more drama, more violence, more social upheaval! But what I got instead was a fashion show and a love triangle. And most of the characters went through the trilogy underdeveloped IMHO.

I'm sorry if you don't agree, but the books disappointed me. The movie did not and I PRAY they don't.
