Do u have a favorite Edgar Allen Poe story? If do do Please share it

2 Name: マシンガン : 2011-08-15 01:18 ID:Ho3smYOZ [Del]

My favorite poem is "Lenore," and my favorite story would have to be "The Raven."

3 Name: マシンガン : 2011-08-15 01:19 ID:Ho3smYOZ [Del]

Oh wait "The Raven" is also a poem. xD Then I don't really like any of his stories.

>>3 There not all that bad. Like the short story "Elenora" it was very interesting

5 Name: 70K1D0K1!CDqPSd5mZM : 2011-08-16 00:21 ID:3YLDxp3H [Del]

Oh! I've never heard of "Elenora" before! *goes to look for that*

I like the majority of his short stories, but my favorites are the ones that made the most sense (haha...): "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Masque of the Red Death," and "The Tell-Tale Heart." Gosh, I can't even count the times I've read "The Tell-Tale Heart" even when it wasn't assigned in school!

6 Name: 70K1D0K1!CDqPSd5mZM : 2011-08-16 09:32 ID:3YLDxp3H [Del]

I just read "Elenora" and it was so beautiful! I didn't think Poe could write something so pretty and happily-ending and still sound like himself, but he did. I'll add that short story as one of my favorites!

>>8 "The Tell-Tale Heart" was about a guy who killed some old dude because of his "evil eye" so maybe you meant that...?

10 Name: Miescha : 2011-08-17 11:16 ID:TzETJz9U [Del]

>>9 I love "The Tell-Tale Heart", that one is my favorite. :) And I think that is the one that >>8 meant.

11 Name: Marianna : 2011-08-21 03:34 ID:yFvyEjzr [Del]

Is that the one where the guy hides the dismembered body under the floor boards but no matter what he does he cant stop hearing the guys heartbeat and goes crazy and kills himself or something like that?

I love The Masque of The Red Death!!! The dark architecture of the 7th room was delightful! The irony of the whole story! A real masterpiece!

Brilliant writer. I haven't read everything he's written yet, though making an attempt. Aside from the amazing stories people have already mentioned, I really enjoy "The Black Cat" and "The Cask of Amontillado." There's just something about the way he writes madness in his stories that keeps me reading. Currently reading "The Man That Was Used Up."

My favorite isn't exactly a popular one "Silence: A fable"
There was just something hauntingly inspiring about it. It's not too long either, and the pacing is superb.

29 Name: VitrealleAurora!9mbq5YNMp2 : 2012-01-27 21:07 ID:SLZgly6p [Del]

...=w=;;; I was named after The Raven.
Which reminds me i had a stupid teacher once and he stopped me in the hallway one day

Him: Oh hey raven, was it? Do you know how you like got your name?

Me: The Edgar Allen Poe Poem...

Him: OH. Which one.

Anyway
I like Murder at the Rue Morgue. At least i think thats what its called. By the way, Tell Tale Heart, and Murder at the Rue Morgue, THOSE ARE STORIES.

THE RAVEN AND ANNABELL LEE, ARE POEMS PEOPLE. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE.

>>29>>31 To be fair the distinction between prose and poetry isn't necessarily so definitive. The two are distinct primarily in terms of the technique they employ, such as poetry's focus on flowery language, line breaks, and rhetorical devices like allusion, alliteration, and assonance.

But even a poem can have a story. in fact the Raven has a definitive narrative, there are sequences of events so in some sense it has a story. Not to mention the epic poets like Homer who wrote novel length poems that are actually lengthy stories generally related to superhuman feats and gods.

And then there is a type of poetry called prose poetry. it reads more like the language you might find in a book than you would expect from a poem. But it uses the poetic techniques described above so heavily that it is still considered a type of poetry, and it is extremely easy to fit a story into these poems.

Even transitional metaphors like those found in Keats's "Ode to a Nightingale," where he relates the transformations in a nightingale to the larger evolving themes of the work, can be considered a story in the abstract sense.

Ah, but on topic my favorite works y Poe are The Rave, The Black Cat, The Masque of the Red Death, and the Cask of Amontillado.

- A Poe and poetry enthusiast.

The Cask of Amontillado.

46 Name: Abraxas : 2012-04-28 15:20 ID:HBu1YHTn [Del]

The Fall of the House of Usher. I saw it in a play first and it was amazing. I looked into reading it and I also read a pictured version. I actually heard some music once performed by an orchestra ,I think, that based songs on his stories. They sounded very in tune with the stories.

I enjoy The Cask of Amontillado and The Black Cat because they both employ an ingenious way of hiding things/people. Except it kind of backfired because of the cat.
