Hot Pot Party! (21)

1 Name: Chipsa : 2020-04-18 23:09 ID:EbdWevlM [Del]

Hey, guys! So, I had an idea that we could do a kind of little hot pot party here on the BBS! Everyone could make their own food at home, but take pictures or describe it here on the thread. Since everyone is mostly at home or staying in anyway, ya know..... :D How 'bout it? We would have to decide on a date or two, probably, unless we wanted it to be a very virtual-world hot pot party, haha, but until then we could post recipes and ideas and stuff. Sound like a good idea? :) :)
Until later! ~Chipsa

I dont know how to make a hot pot :((

That aside, sounds like an awesome plan!

I don't think it would strictly need to be hotpot, as that requires some ingredients that are difficult to obtain. I feel that it is a worthwhile idea nonetheless!

Ossu! If anyone still wants to do this, I think I might be up for it. :)

>>5 That sounds great! Maybe we can make this an ongoing thing instead of deciding on a date. Or maybe even making it a recurring thing, like for example, doing it on the second Sunday of every month. That way everyone can freely join at any point.

Also, I kind of agree with wolfm, maybe it's better if we leave it up to people to decide what to cook instead of sticking to one dish. I always welcome every chance to expand my cooking repertoire.

well, I guess I'll just start, this is a yogurt, it's a very simple kind of cake and tastes reallyyyyy well! Basically you want it to toast on the outside but to be a little bit under-cooked on the inside, and well I do think it's good with tea

>>7 That's certainly a classic!

My contribution (see picture above) is Spanish tortilla. Here's the recipe in case you want to do it yourselves.

Ingredients (for 2 servings):

  • 4 eggs

  • Around 500 gr of potatoes (~1 pound)

  • Some milk

  • Frying oil

  • Salt and pepper

  • Optional: Two medium-sized onions

Preparation:

  • If you decide to make the tortilla with onions, cut them in tiny pieces and cook them with some salt a little oil over a very low heat.

  • While the onions are cooking (it takes a while), peel the potatoes and laminate them in small pieces (not much larger than the size of a finger nail).

  • Fry the potatoes in a frying pan. They don't need to be properly "fried", in fact, it works best if they are a bit mushy.

  • Take them out of the pan and remove the extra fat with the help of a sieve.

  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the potatoes, salt and pepper, and the onions and mix. Finally, add some milk to the mix, enough to make sure that the "solid" part is properly embedded in liquid.

  • Take your most trusty non-stick pan and put a bit of oil on it. Put the stove on high heat.

  • When the pan is hot enough, pour the mix on top of it. Use a spatula to make sure that the borders don't stick to the pan.

  • When you see that the mix at the bottom starts to get solid, flip the tortilla with the help of a dish. To do so, put the dish on top of the pan (make sure that it covers the whole thing), flip the pan (so that the uncooked side of the tortilla falls on the dish) and then let the tortilla slide back into the pan.

  • Repeat this last step a couple of times. Depending on how well done you like it, you can leave it more or less time on the pan.

And that's it! It takes quite some time to master the recipe (specially if your non-stick pan is not as trusty as you expected), but it's definitely worth it.

¡Buen provecho!

I thought Hot Pot Party requires a hot pot, that's why I've been avoiding this thread lol

Oh wow, guys, >>7 >>8 amazing! Thanks so much for your replied
S. Yeah, I by no means meant it to be only hot pot- I mean, I did at first, but the point is more just communal food sharing, with a fun vibe, not to sound terribly goofy. :P
I'll post something day after tomorrow, I think. Awesome! :)

I want to join too! When is it supposed to happen??

15 Name: Chipsa : 2020-10-28 22:59 ID:JC/Q/ast [Del]

So sorry- I tend to do this sort of thing. Haha. Uh, it happens whenever! :P I'll try and get the party started, but I've been so busy or I forget about it, and I haven't ended up posting. But!! Soon! You can post yours now if you want, of course. If anyone wants a challenge, I'd challenge them to do a three-part meal. :D Otherwise, do what you like! XD I personally love bento stuff, but I might do ramen or curry or a rice dish. Or even a simple soup.
It could just be a sandwich, if you like.

>>16 Well that looks pretty good! I made some muffins yesterday and was considering taking a photo and sharing the recipe with you guys... But I forgot and now they're all gone, so I guess I'll wait for the next batch.

18 Name: Chipsa : 2020-11-20 19:10 ID:aBnOu8w2 [Del]

Sounds good! XD
What kind of muffins were they? I would guess they were good, if you ate them all, or if someone else ate them all. XD :P

Chocolate muffins, I mostly shared them with my co-workers. I think they ended up being a tad too dry for my liking, but as one of my co-workers said herself "well they're still chocolate muffins, you can't go wrong with chocolate". She raised an interesting and compelling point indeed.

Yum!
Oh, very. That certainly makes sense.

Very true. You can never go wrong with chocolate muffins.
