Favorite Home Food and Favorite Foreign Food (29)

1 Name: S-Senpaii : 2016-02-17 10:11 ID:sW8scZef [Del]

Hey everyone! I would like to make an exotic food thread to help me and other members discover new foods from other countries and regions. For this post, I'd like each member who replies to list an exotic food (something uncommon to eat in their country) they've had that they like, and a food from their home country that they like. (Dishes, junk food, candy, drinks, all welcome. As long as it's made to consume.)

So for example, if you're American, list your favorite food from here, and one from another country that is uncommon here, and give a small description of either, or both foods listed.
So one response could be:

"Country: USA- American
Favorite Home Food: Stuffed Cheese Pizza
Favorite Foreign Food: Sushi- Japan
Cheese pizza is super delicious. All the cheese, complimented with tomato sauce underneath, the fluffy cheese-filled crust is my favorite part!"

Anyways, try choosing unique foods for your favorites. I used pizza and sushi in the example because in America, they're very common here XD

Alright enough rambling, I'll start:

Country: USA- American
Favorite Home Food: Deep Fried Eggplant
Favorite Foreign Food: Chicken Tamales- Mexico
Deep fried eggplant is so tender to bite into, when served you spread tomato sauce on it and tastes so freaking amazing. Chicken tamales comprise of succulent seasoned chicken covered in masa dough, cooked and wrapped in corn husks.

Country: USA
Favorite Home Food: Hummus
Favorite Foreign Food: Gnocchi (Italy)
Hummus tastes amazing. It's blended chickpeas mixed with tahini, olive oil, and some spices such as cumin and paprika. Homemade hummus is infinitely superior to store-bought.

Favorite Home Food: French Fries (yea, "french," "not american," whatever. Bite me.)
Favorite Foreign Food: Spicy Fideo (burnt some) - Mexico
French Fries have many styles of taste and texture, and work for both snacks and meals. But Fideo is my favorite, due to childhood memories with my mother. It has just the right spiciness to it, isn't dry nor soggy, and tastes delicious.

Country: USA
Favorite home food: Burnt ends.
Burnt ends are made by a beef brisket being smoked for a long period of time until the thickest part of the brisket is done. Then, the fattier ends of the brisket are cut off and cooked further to render down the remaining fat. The result is some of the best meat you'll ever taste, hands down.

Favorite foreign food: beef or pork Shawarma.

A traditional Austrian dish made with boneless meat thinned with a mallet (escalope-style preparation), and fried with a coating of flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. (You can also combine this with a hard roll and make it look like a burger or something. Tastes also good with some fries ;)

Favorite Foreign Food: Spaghetti Bolognese. I just love the sauce and parmesan on top. But only if the sauce is really good and delicious.

Country: Philippines

Favourite Home Food: Balut
Seriously. Some people are totally grossed out by it but trust me, one sip from that oozing broth and you're in for a rainbow ride. Not too mention the fetus chicken in there tastes so exquisite and just melts in your mouth. BTW, it is an egg with a fetus chicken inside. You drink the broth and eat the fetus. Done.

Favourite Foreign Food: Kimchi - Korean
My favourite kimchi is literally any green vegetable smothered with that out-of-this-world paste. The taste is just so unique and it also goes par with all the crunchy snacks here in the Philippines :3
