Mapo tofu REAL or NOT (7)

If you have seen the anime "Angel Beats" then you would know that Kanada (aka angel) loves mapo tofu. I wanted to ask if this is a real japanese food, or if its even japanese. if not, what is it really? And if you have some, maybe a recipe?

I think it is a read food but im not sure. it looks really good though. as for a recipe....not a clue.

Mapo tofu is real!! It's actually a Chinese food.
Mapo tofu is basically tofu cooked in a spicy chili sauce (see link below for a recipe):
