I'm just curious if this rice wine will really make you drunk? I wanted to taste this though I'm not fond of alcoholic beverages; it's my vow never to drink one well with the exception of wines and probably this Japanese drink. The next time my friends will invite for sleep over I think I'll vote that the drinks will be this one. ^__^

Yes it will make you drunk, but only if you drink enough of it. I personally like it but would like to try it warmed instead of just room temp.

>>2 About how many shots will it take to make me drunk? Will it cause severe hangover than other alcoholic beverages?

I'm not sure how many shots it would take because I haven't had too much experience with it beyond getting free "shots" at a hibachi place where I live. They shoot it into your mouth from a bottle that looks like the kind you put ketchup and mustard in and they start counting to see how long you can go until you physically can't hold any more in your mouth or you close it yourself.

>>1 sake is in fact a beer not a wine, because of the way its made.

>>9 The method of making sake is similar to how beer is made. Sake is it's own category. It doesn't fall in with wine or beer.

Sake can be hot or room temp. The japanese start heating it up after WW2 when americans visit and they were having a rice shortage at the time so the rice wasn't milled down that much. This is what I can to call cheap sake. On a side note my knowledge of alcohol is great because I had an alcohol class and I am under age at the moment.

Sake is about 20% alcohol content. In comparison, beer is usually 5% (4% for light beers). So yes, it will make you drunk.

How fast it will make you drunk will depend on how well your body can handle it, including weight, how fast your liver processes alcohol, etc., so It'll have to be something you gauge yourself.

It isn't a wine? That's news to me. Because the information available on the net or even some food programs in television classifies it as a wine. Wow! I'm excited to have a taste of it! I can't wait for this semester to end so I can finally have my mouth savor on its interesting flavor & effect. ^_^

>>11 This is correct Sake is actually stronger then most other alcholes, so yes it will get you drunk, and yes it will get you drunk faster then other alcholic beverages, but trust me it is really yummy my sister recieved some for her birthday(She is also an otaku like myself) and it was really good, i found one of the best drinks to mix it with is moutin dew.

>>15 No it is. Sake is actually rice wine.

>>17 It is commonly know as wine but, the process of making it is more common to brewing beer than winemaking. So, just like I say in a comment before, it not wine or beer it a category of it's own.

Say a certain someone wanted to make Sake, how would he go about doing that?

22 Name: PierogiGuy : 2013-07-19 23:13 ID:MloVKPCa [Del]

>>21 the two main ingredients are rice that is milled down and koji mold. Let just say you can't get the mold. No matter what unless you live in japan. You might make a cheap copy of sake.

Steam the rice. Add mold(yeast) and let it ferment. Put the rice in cheese cloth and make a bag out of it and hang it. The liquid that come out is you sake.

It depends on how much you drink it
