What do you guys thing of Tamagoyaki? have you ever tried it?

I once made tamagoyaki and it was really pretty, a nice egg roll, but even if it looked great I didnt quite like the flavour.

Is it me or Eggs and Shugar are a weird combination?. Maybe I put too much shugar but my tamagoyaki tasted weird and I could'nt finish it.

So did I made something wrong? anyone else share my opinion? Just curious

I've tried making my own tamagoyaki a few times, but I can never get it quite right. I guess it doesn't help that I don't really have the right kitchen equipment. I did use a little sugar, about a teaspoon, I think, and a little soy sauce if I had some.
Personally, I like the taste of fluffy, slightly sweet omelettes, but I don't think you have to add the sugar if you don't want to. You can try using less sugar than your first try, or leave it out altogether.

>>2 'Tamagoyaki' is Japanese for 'grilled egg'. It's basically a Japanese-style omelette roll, consisting of several layers of egg.

Personally, I am not a big fan of sweets, so I never add any sugar. Of course it has taken a lot of practice, but tamagoyaki is now really easy for me to make. I just add a little salt or oregano- I guess it goes against the traditional flavor, but that's the flavor i like to make. If you want to like the taste i suggest you just experiment with different spices and make it something of your own liking. :)

I felt that sugar and egg would taste weird too, but when I made it it tasted fine to me. I don't know if this will help but when I make tamagoyaki I use:
4 eggs
3/4 Tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of soy sauce.

i like my egg mixed with salt better. tamago means egg while yaki means cook. so tamagoyaki means cooked egg. (^◇^)

you are correct as to the meanings of these two words, however, 'Tamagoyaki' often refers to a form of sweet omelet. After all they often just eat tomago, but this doesn't mean it is raw.

Every restaurant I've gone to serves them too sweet for me.

I've never had it. I tried making it once or twice before but the thought of adding sugar always made me feel kinda queasy...

Tamagoyaki is traditionally made sweet. I prefer mine to be less on the, "Could I get some egg with my sugar and syrup please," and more on the, "Oh this just a touch on the sweet side." Although I don't really like it on it's own I think it's a pretty fantastic compliment to a bento or dish of bland/salty foods.
If your Tamagoyaki isn't coming out right it might be because you aren't using the right pan. You need a deep square pan to cook Tamagoyaki in. I have a picture attached of the pan, (I hope).
