I thought about sendin a script or the plot of my manga to a corp. but I don't know which corp. and how much they would need. I wouldn't want to send a chapter/episode in and they would want to see more right away when that's all I had

10 Name: KKarnauhoff : 2013-08-10 07:16 ID:/Mp1VsZO [Del]

>>9 Hm, you can try these corps: Shueisha, Kodansha.. Read about it on Wiki. But it depends on genre of your manga. And you can create a one-shot manga (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-shot_(comics) )

11 Name: bang-bang : 2013-08-10 09:45 ID:sEybbt2o [Del]

I'm sorry to burst bubbles, but if you're not from Japan the chances that major manga publishers like Shueisha will even care about your work is almost nonsexistent.

Whatever the style your comic is going to have it's better to look at local publishers/competitions or whatever, to have a chance for your work to get looked at. Also since the internet is a thing, publishing online is a great way to gauge interest and gather an audience before trying to approach actual publishing companies.

I mean, wanting to draw manga/comics is cool and all, but if your dream is to actually get published and/or make it your career you should really look at how the industry works before getting ahead of yourself.

Well, before drawing manga you ought to have a story written in as much detail as possible, so you don't suffer a case of writer's block and decide to abandon the project for that reason. Also, you might wanna avoid cliches, unless you're doing a parody manga, so first you ought to determine the genre of your manga - mine is something in between shounen and seinen (like FMA). Shounen are popular fighting mangas for (young) teens and seinen are for older teens and adults, because they deal with more mature topics and may contain more violence.
On this site, for example, http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=1463 you may find cliches which often appear in shounen manga and people don't like seeing them. My biggest pet peeve which made me stop watching Fairy Tail and because of which I couldn't watch One Piece is the famous "nakama power" in which a character gets a super-power-up after being defeated due to his "friends". I have friends irl and that's really not how it works. If you're heavily injured and have broken bones, you won't be getting up due to your strength of will, I can guarantee you that. Therefore, when I see something like this in a manga/anime, there's no willing suspension of disbelief. I'm just like "come on!"
So, I might've gotten off topic here, but the thing I'm trying to say in a nutshell is this: "write a plot of your manga, have someone you trust read it and be ready to change things if you believe their opinion might be better for the story."
Secondly, if you want to get published, e.g. I plan on drawing the whole manga and offering it to the publishers and then they can publish chapters weekly, because I don't have the time to reach weekly deadlines due to college. So, you might give your story to a manga/comic publisher in your country and get a lawyer or a manager to arrange with the publisher to make a deal with a Japanese manga company if they wish to publish your manga in Japan. I haven't heard of American/European manga published in Japan hitherto, but all it takes is for someone to start a trend and the Japanese may be surprised with the fresh idea the western mangakas have to offer.

>>20 Great website, I think it's very useful. And yes, when you wrote your story (with a lot of details), you need to make a STORYBOARD. It's necessary, because all pages are connected to each other. And if you haven't storyboard, it's very possible that pages will be very different. Like I'm doing: STORY => STORYBOARD => DRAWING PAGES.

22 Name: Keyboard : 2013-08-13 08:10 ID:O8am8FYG [Del]

>>21 Exactly. However, I'm gonna first write the story and after I'm finished, I won't draw the entire storyboard and then manga pages because that would take too long (longer than a year, I'm guessing). Instead, I'll be drawing first storyboard and then pages immediately after, and draw chapter by chapter. (so like, 2 pages daily with chapter (can be 20-40 pages) storyboard prior to drawing them,). Also, average manga page has 6 panels in it, just putting it out there.

23 Name: KKarnauhoff : 2013-08-14 05:27 ID:GXUOjN+w [Del]

>>22 Ok, I see. But what I mean "storyboard": you can just put there frames without drawings. But if you have really big manga, yeah, it can be a bit long, but not a year, exactly :D And me, I'm working on my new story, huh, I think it will be interesting :)

24 Name: Yoko Kurama : 2013-08-15 14:52 ID:IOSnYGyK [Del]

it seems like both of you have made your own mangas before

25 Name: KKarnauhoff : 2013-08-16 09:01 ID:9Mw/E14s [Del]

>>24 Hm, as for me, I'm creating a manga now. I have some drawings or else, but not a full manga :D I need more practice, so I draw people now. And, don't know why, I wanna create a cartoon... >_> Do you draw manga only? Because me, I like use watercolors too :D

I had a story I've been working on, building editing, and changing for 12 years in my head. Nearly dying on Christmas 2012 I realized how important I was to share my story to the world.
If I had a good artist. I can start immediately. But I don't. So till then, I'm teaching my self to draw.

im not much of an artist i am the one that comes up wit the story and my friend would do the art work but now that he's in college im left alone to complete the manga once i finish i will move on to makin a fictional story

For all those prefacing their posts in this thread with "I'm not much of an artist but-", have you thought about just writing your story? Sure, it's great to see your ideas take a visual form, but if it's really the story you're passionate about, you could go for novelization first, and adapt it if it really bears fruit.

I'm not doubting anyone's convictions, but truly going all the way on a whole story is a difficult task in itself. Start with what you know; if you're trying to draw it yourself, perhaps practice your craft first. If you're getting someone else to do it, give them something to work with before they start.

Just some suggestions. I've seen too many people here jumping the gun and shooting themselves in the foot before they even begin.

>>28 Great suggestions, Misuto! Thank you very much! I think it's very useful. Of course, we should to create possible goals. It's right. By the way, do you draw or write something? :)

I am currently creating/writing and drawing out my manga/story/comic/whatevertheinternetwantstocallit

Its called Reapers.
Its about two boys, Eddie Norcross and Scott Nengrim. Both of them don't know each other at all,but one day, each will be faced with a fatal situation. However , before they die, they are both sent to Heaven (both at different times, scott is the first to go then 9 months later Eddie) to talk to God and the Devil BUT heres a twist, they arent the original God and Devil. They are the 2nd God and Devil, the OD ( original Devil) got too powerful and was sent away, while the OG ( original God) stepped down. Their names (the 2nd God and Devil) are Alan (God) and Lou (Devil) , both are best friends , not enemies as the bibles says they are.

They both tell Eddie and Scott they can continue living if they become Reapers, the smaller physical and spiritual embodiment of the Grim Reaper. There are already over 100,000 + Reapers all over the world, all fighting off crimes , hauntings, ghosts, demons, humans, ect...

Eddie wants to see the world change but knows that isn't possible so intend he takes the job to look for his mother, who walked out on Eddie who at the time was 2 years old with Eddies dad and his newly born sister who was just 3 months old.

Scott wants to find out who his real parents were, and how they died. Scotts a orphan but was adopted by a good family who lets him rent a apartment in the city by himself as they know he'll be fine. He soon becomes one of the most well known reapers by the time Eddie joins.

I'll leave that there for you to see how it is. I've gotten almost everything sorted out, just need to draw it out. But thats my story! ^---^

Bravo!!!!! Narukami, i really like it, it sounds extremely interesting. i'd love to read it

>>29 I did some writing when a few of us RP'd on this site in the literature board, but I utterly fail at drawing.

>>30 That's an interesting plot. Is there a particular reason for there being a replacement god/devil? And are you going to use actual biblical references, or just rewrite the background of christianity, more or less? Because in the original story, as far as I recall, God and the devil weren't technically directly combating foes - rather, the devil was a fallen angel who was condemned. I don't remember him having any real power other than persuasion.

Hello fellow acquaintances, I am a co-creator of Yoko's project, alongside three other friends. Throughout the decades i cannot really say that this is the most amazing idea in the world, but us five have had a great deal of fun just creating the scenarios and all that junk, and so i thought it might be a good idea to really explain what our manga idea is about. That I will do in the matter of a few minutes, i gotta type the whole thing out, so... give me a few minutes.

34 Name: Van : 2013-08-27 22:43 ID:Fvosqplp [Del]

So here goes!

I guess i should set the tone of the project first, It is planned to be a comedic action based thingy... you know what, let's just call it a shounen, because that is what is whether i want it or not, a shounen is a shounen.
Nothing about this is to be taken as seriously as, let's say Monster or Death Note, in fact, it is more in the field of Gintama or Sket Dance, it's something you would read just for the sake of awesome and fun

Anyway, enough of that. The story centers 4 main heroes who each have a set of unusual powers that don't really have much to do with each other. For the sake of making this easier to read and write, I shall make the list of main characters into a list.
(i will call them by color, because frankly i forgot how to spell their names... but think of them like power rangers of the sort XD)

Blue:
Power to shoot beams out of his right arm... think of it like a one armed haduken, or a dragonball hame-hame-ha (dont know what it's called... to be honest i feel like the only human being to not have seen dragon ball o_o)
Power to talk to rodents and other small animals, later this power evolves into the power to understand all languages, alien and human.
Warm Vision... like heat vision, except that instead of the heat ray thing burn through metal and junk, it will slightly warm it.
And accelerated brain functions. eventually this evolves into mind reading and control (probably his only real power, also, this kind of renders universal language useless, but what the hell)

Purple:
Teleporation, this eventually evolves into interdimesnional travel, something of a big plot point, since the whole time we end up on a different dimesions from home and we try to find a way back.
shapeshifting, pretty clear, think of a best boy kind of thing i guess, ecxept... not green.
Healing, at first himself, and later on, others too.
and, for lack of a better name... adapting... it's hard to describe exactly what we thought of when we thought of this power, but think of that black guy from x-men first class who was the first too die... thats how i imagine it aleast, if i'm wrong yoko, then correct.

oh my this is taking longer than expected, so let me just speed run the other two!

Black
Can eat anything, and later on, can spit it back out at supersonic speeds... think kirby
has 5 stomachs... yeah...
invisibility
and levitation
(this is one of the wierder characters XD)

and finally Green!
Really reall really strong!
bullet proof skin
able to change skin in order to camouflauge with soroundings
and once again for lack of a better way to describe it, first level earth bending, non of that high level avatar shit, like perfectly round spheres or metal bending, just simple grab rock and throw it or punch ground and make hole in the ground.

OKAY!!!!

somethings to keep in mind, notice that non of the powers here are really balanced, some characters are clearly stronger than others, and within each character, all their powers are not necesarily usefull. This although not done on porpuse is something we liked and decided to keep. That way each character and his seperate fights is more distinct than as if they were all on the same level ( i know that htere is a way to have all characters on the same level and still have them be distinct, but we just suck XD)

Anyway, really quick cuase im tired of writing, the plot consists of the four of them getting transported to an alternate dimension (our's to be exact, or actually a version of our dimension where this actually happened) and during the trip is when the powers came into play. However, not everyone got their powers right away, as time passed and as trouble brewed, their powers became clear at random times, and this would be showed by their eyes and mouth glowing the color of their character color (dont ask me how black glows)

anyway, throughout their trip they fight foes both on this dimension and on their home dimension

the main antagonist followed them from their home dimension and throughout his chase, he also aquiares powers.

oh my, this sounds more complicated than i had planned >.<
whatever... still a work in progress, but, yeah.... five stomachs... how in the world is five stomachs a power?

35 Name: Van : 2013-08-27 22:49 ID:Fvosqplp [Del]

there is so much more i left out because i felt that that last post is way too long, such as the main antagonist and his evil army, the heirarchy of the army, and the foes here on earth, the home base of the protagonist and all that fine detail junk... so just... use your imagination

....

36 Name: Yoko Kurama : 2013-08-27 23:20 ID:QI/P37Lh [Del]

My color is actually white not purple but your right about my adapting power and the names for the characters are, Blue = Rogan Lemine (Rogan), White = Isha Raion (Raion), Black = Mr. Kuro (Kuro), Green = Bigfoot Sasquatch (Squatch)

37 Name: IDIOT : 2013-08-29 00:45 ID:8ASA6+BQ [Del]

>>34 actually shounen just means the manga is targeted to young boys from 10-17 (rough estimation)

38 Name: NG-S : 2022-10-08 03:33 ID:t5wU/mSR [Del]

I'm not working on a Manga, but a Light Novel. I have some artistic skills, but not that good to draw for publishing, although I could do concept art.
I'm actually looking for an artist to draw the cover and such and a few sketches for characters. The amount of art I'm looking for in each book is only a few pages, but I plan on writing a lot of volumes and eventually doing multiple series.

If you'd be interested let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm very serious about my work. I have so many ideas that eventually I could be publishing a Volume a month (remember multiple series). I have no publishing company so I'll probably self publish using Amazon or such. Also some stories or scenes can get pretty dark. I only require covers and images of the characters, no action scenes unless the artist feels they can or wants to try.

Please reply if you're interested in the job. I'm open to splitting royalties since I feel an artist should give input on the story and through their input the plot may change and for the art of course or I can pay the artist for each piece they make. We can discuss that later in private. I'd prefer if the artist use a name (first and last) even if not their real name. (I'll be publishing under what NG-S stands for (A first and hyphenated last name). I don't care how old you are, if you're 10 or 80, as long as you have talent. Please consider my request.
