The story begins with a mysterious, naive boy named Aladdin with a magical flute who travels through the desert leaving a trail of bandit bodies. In a town he meets Ali Baba who wishes to conquer the local dungeon and make his fortune. Making their acquiescence with a stoic slave girl, Morgiana, the 3 form a friendship that will be connected through the story. Soon this friendship is tested through separations as they have adventures throughout the world of Magi. Aladdin finds more of his himself as the legendary Magi while Alibaba and Morgiana find their own destiny. The story continues on as they meet many characters from the Arabian Nights.
A manga based on the stories from the 1001 Arabian Nights, Magi is a series that has a very stable quality rarely seen in many series. It incorporates many genres as it features prominently standard fight scenes (that are action packed, wonderfully drawn, and epic in scale), discussions of "heavy" philosophy and religion, allusions of real life politics, actual political discussion, humor of all kinds, occasional fanserivce and romance, and many more...and surprising, they fit very well with little incoherence. And more impressively, many of the chapters in Magi has very subtle allusions to the Arabian Nights. While there are liberal interpretations...the spirit is still there if you understand. The art is pleasant to look at and very consistent drawings....READ THIS!!!!!
