PREQUEL is a story on the internet. It has been called several other things too, including “Making A Cat Cry: The Adventure“, “Everything Is A Federal Fucking Issue And Also Trying To Make You Miserable“, “Katia Managan: Alcoholic, Vasilikphobe, Adventurer“, and “Slutcat Adventures 2: Daggerfall“. All of these names are equally descriptive and accurate.
More specifically, PREQUEL is an interactive story where readers serve as the protagonist’s subconscious. It was inspired by the user command model employed by MS Paint Adventures and is based on the Elder Scrolls universe created by Bethesda Softworks, though familiarity with either of these is not necessary to understand PREQUEL. PREQUEL began as a forum thread on the MS Paint Adventures Forums, but has since been moved to its own site for readability.
The events in PREQUEL are still decided by commands submitted in its Forum Adventure thread! If you want to potentially influence the story, sign up for the forums and leave a command in the thread.
The story of Prequel is by no means an easy one. It is not a story where everything goes well and happy endings come easy. No, failure is a very real option here, and actually happens fairly often. However, this helps bond the reader to the character fairly well, as you hope Katia Managan makes the best of what little she has.
While I'm at this, the Java coding of the site is superb. I can't list many examples without giving away the story, nor post many of the slides since they are usually animated. However, one example I can give is that while you scroll down the page (in one of the scenes, mind you), the character jumps into the center of the staircase to stay in the camera's field. Another example is the many occurrences where you play a small flash game as Katia, wandering around the city.
Although I'm babbling too much. For anyone who has even a small interest in Elder Scrolls, adventure comics, or an interactive storyline, I would absolutely recommend such a comic.
