I find it hard to believe there isn't a thread about this, but whatever. There can never be enough Homestuck.

Homestuck is a web comic written and illustrated by Andrew Hussie, creator of several other webcomics found on his site "MS Paint Adventures", with over 5,000 pages and counting. [He originally created his comics in MS Paint, thus the name.] The series Homestuck follows four kids and their adventures after they're sucked into the mysterious computer game, Sburb. Stylistically, it's similar to playing a video game--including epic Flash sequences, awesome music, and ironically poorly-drawn sub-comics. It's not exactly a manga but any comic, manga, or video game lover could appreciate Homestuck.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say:
"The comics, or "adventures", are presented in a manner that parodies interactive fiction games. The characters' actions are driven by commands, ostensibly provided by the reader but in reality fabricated by the author or selected from suggestions provided by the comic's official forum. The comics tend to draw inspiration from video games, imitating and parodying genres such as RPGs and simulation games.[2]
Homestuck began in April 13 of 2009 and is described by the author as "Combining the themes and feel of The Sims and Spore". The story follows four teenagers as they play a video game that brings about the end of the world and leads them into a whole new universe where they must explore the game's cause and ultimate consequences. The adventure is characterized by time travel, mystery, and a complex, largely undefined fictional universe. This adventure includes an expansive cast, including the denizens of the game world, as well as twelve figurative and literal trolls from another universe. There's a thread about it on Literature. It was a toss-up... it's not a manga, but it's something of a comic. It's not a book, but it is a written story and is close to a light novel by word to picture ratio.

Anyway, too tired to post a proper opinion on this right now. Pick which one you want to keep bumped and stick with it, though the other one has discussion attached to it already.

Homestuck is amazing!! I just started reading it a while ago since my friends are all obsessed with it. It's ALL they talk about! I'm only on the 3rd act and it starts off kinda slow but it gets sooo awesome! Dave x John forever <3

Anyone see the update for 4/13? It's the closest Homestuck ever got to depicting the "puzzle game" aspect of Sburb, and I thought it was a nice tie-in compared to the usual narrative.

I should say that somehow, I'm not enjoy the currently updates (about Dave and Rose in alpha session) I just...I can't like for some reason.

Love homestuck, started reading sometime this year and got hooked. Though I must admit, the new cast of kids aren't really doing it for me. I find myself missing John, Dave, Jane, and Rose when they aren't around.

I've been thinking about getting into the Homestuck fandom for quite a while now. My question is, should I? I mean, I have no doubts it's a great series and the fandom is also awesome. But, it's just such a long way to go since I would be starting from the very beginning. Also, it seems very intricate. Would I just get myself confused trying to understand the storyline? Advice/opinions?

Homestuck is a really great comic, and I would advise anyone considering it to give it a read. But it IS really long and very intricate, as well as taking being a bit slow in the begining and having an odd sense of humor. It's definently not for everyone. I'd say keep reading until the end of act two or three before deciding whether or not you want to keep reading.

My favorite part of it is the way it utilizes the internet to be such a mixed media thing. Regular panel, animated gifs, full flash animations with music and even playable videogame segments. It's only hardly considered a comic because there really isn't a way to catagorize it.

I've never gotten into Homestuck. It just doesn't make enough sense for me to become a fan. I tried reading some, and got so bored that I wanted to bash my head in with a brick. No offense to all of those Homestuck fans, though.

Tried reading it, made it to act 3 and almost bore myself to death.
The story is too random, makes no sense, and becomes a chore to see what happens next. The interactivity and music tries to mask it's story but fails miserably. Truly a webcomic meant only for hyperactive kids.

About a year ago someone told me to read it. I read like 2 pages and stopped because it was so so stupid. And then another year later some girl I really liked started reading it so I felt obligated to. I got to act 3 before I realuzed the curiosity was killing me, and no matter how random and somewhat pointless it was it had a plot. So I continued and I'm almost to act 6. So the point is it's not for everyone. Some people might not even think it's worth trying. But if you want to see for yourself. In my opinion it's either sheer stupidity or genius really.

I personally found the concept rather interesting, to start off with. An MMO played by four friends, manifesting as a game that affects their real lives, and ultimately acts as a catalyst for a grander scheme. The plot does start to get convoluted around act 5, but it's not random - in fact so much of it is thought out to great lengths that you might call it unnecessarily complex.

To that end I kind of doubt a hyperactive kid could even follow it, unless they were just in it for the pretty pictures and aesthetics. One would think it only appeals to hyperactive kids if that's all they could see, after all. So your comment has me questioning your taste, if anything - it's all well and good if you just dislike it, but to pretend like you're above it is kind of hilarious all things considered.

To be honest, I couldn't really get into it. I found it to be kind of boring. I'm sure it turns into something fantastic later on, but for now I can't bring myself to read it. It's more of a chore than a pleasure. Of course, that's not to say I completely hate it or it's fans, I also don't think I'm "above" anyone who likes it. I like the fandom of it, for I find it to usually be really cool, and the characters are pretty nice too.
Also, @Greenland why not bring your love for Hetalia to a thread that feels the same way? Your merely wasting your time posting pictures of something completely unrelated.

Homestuck is amazing.
It is boring at the beginning because of how slow it is but if you stick with it then the amazingness unfolds into a reality of four kids, 12 trolls, and awesome almighty demons.
I truly love this series. I was skeptical about reading it a while back as well but now that I have been reading it it's just pure awesome! Most people don't see it as that because they judge it on the first page or how the art is.
I use to do the same thing for other things like One Piece.

Homestuck for life! I've been reading it for about three years now. I'm all caught up. And, I'm really excited about Hussie's hiatus to work on the game! I ordered a digital and physical copy back when the Kickstarter was still going on, along with $200 of optional merchandise. :) I honestly don't know where I'd be without this webcomic. It's a part of my life, and, I'm going to treasure it as long as it's ongoing.

When I first heard about it I was "homestuck, the hell is that?! " But after reading it, I just decided to sell my soul to Hussie right then and there.

One of my friends I'd obsessed with Homestuck....and I totally know why now...

When my friend tried to explained Homestuck to me, I kinda had the idea. But was mostly wrong. And I think I imagined John and Jane. Which is weird. Started reading Homestuck last night because yesterday I went to an anime convention and there were some really awesome Homestuck cosplayers there. I'm also reading it because two of my friends are Homestuck fans and I don't really understand what they talk about sometimes, and one of them keeps shush patting me, which I have no idea what that's about. Also at the anime convention there was a Homestuck anonymous thing I went to and watched video's of Homestuck stuff that I had no understanding of but suddenly wanted to understand.

One of the best series I have ever read. I love all the detail and planning that must go into it and its amazing originality. So much so that I read the whole thing in a single month. (I hope the hiatus doesn't last too long)

Homestuck is brilliant. I started reading around the summer of last year. Let me tell you, this is probably the most deep and complex story I've ever read. It's not just about some random kids screwing around... Well, it is at the start. I love Homestuck, but I'm sad about it ending soon. I've cosplayed as Vriska before though. ^^;;

I absolutely adore Homestuck, and I've cosplayed for it several times before. At Animazement, there are so many Homestucks (given, Homestuck is not an anime... It's basically going to be a spinoff of homestuck, and since Hussie reached more than 3x his goal, it'll probably be a lot better than how he described it. I'm guessing it won't have much to do with the actual plot (at its current stage, at least) at all, and be more tightly based around SBURB/SGRUB itself.

Unless he ditches the plan and buys a horse farm. Which, as a donator, I'd be okay with.

actually, I'm really anxious about this final update. It's just going to update all at once, and when you read all of it, there will be no more updates. It will certainly be the saddest day of my life once this update comes up. All of these years, I've been checking updates for Homestuck and now it's about to end.




What is life.

I don't know how I'm going to take the end of Homestuck, but there's one thing I do know. I won't ever forget Homestuck. I'll probably keep telling people about it, and making cosplays and going to awesome meetups. It's just a really amazing comic to me. Not to mention all the funny jokes you can make.
I'm just going to be real sad when it's over.

I can't believe the giga pause has commenced. I love Homestuck after reading it. Vriska is my favorite troll.

Homestuck should just start its own convention. There's no shortage of Homestuck in any con... ever. I mean if the community is tight enough to come up with photoshoots, proms, and small meetups then I feel like a convention could be in order with the proper funding and collaboration. Heck, we funded that Kickstarter.

Homestuck as a whole is great. I mean I don't feel as strongly about it as I used to, but it's a very good comic.
You all can disagree but I feel like homestuck wouldn't be able to have a convention in peace, as like some of the other fandoms tend to target them like all the other smaller fandoms. I mean, I'd attend, but I feel like it wouldn't happen anytime soon because of all the negative attention, especially with it ending soon.

I'm not going to even bother rehashing what I just said because clearly the last part just flew over all of your heads. Everyone has a right to cosplay who they want to cosplay. They replaced a panel? Wow. Shit happens. Panels get replaced all the time by other artists, authors, shows, etc. If there was a sudden majority who wanted this Homestuck Panel over whatever your friend wanted then I'm sorry that democracy is even a thing. And if the fandom gets so much bad rep at other conventions for invading them then it's all the more reason to make our own. If a hater chooses to invade the place and bark at everyone for loving something then really it's just taunting a lion in a lions den, and therefore stupid.

yeah i definitely have to agree here. the only problem with holding a homestuck convention would be all the legality issues that would be involved. hussie would have to be there himself, and assuming that this con would be one of those ongoing ones every year (this means long after the homestuck comic is done)it would have to more of an mspa con instead since this general fandom just seems to water down as soon as there's a halt in updates. this makes the convention pretty much impossible. HOWEVER there are many dedicated and well known cosplayers who are active in their fandoms and actually plan very large scale events. some are actually capable of making small conventions of their own, but again, legal issues if it's gonna be homestuck so they sorta just stick with largescale meetups at cons. so until the great huss finds time in his life people are just going to have to suck it up and deal with the fact that yes, people still have the right to cosplay as whatever they want at any convention. honestly, i dont even see why theyre complaining because every fandom has the equal opportunity to hold largescale meetups it's just that none of them actually dont take the time to do it. it just so happens that homestuck relies heavily on fan participation compared to most other works...so really... can you really blame the fandom invasion?

Homestuck is ending and the Gigapause is killing me.

What do you guys feel about this? Is the comic ending too soon? Or too late? It seems the general consensus is that Homestuck has been losing quality since Act 5 Act 2. What is your opinion?

I don't know.... It's really frustrating that the Condesce came down for epicness, and then the cliffhanger came, having many people like me excited for another update when Hussie announces that the gigapause will happen...

Really, Homestuck has been going for 2 years(?) now and lots of people have grown acustumated to entering the MSPA site daily to check for updates. It seems kinda surreal that its ending.

But hey, with the game coming in 2014 and Hussies next project somewhere in the horizon, we can still have something to lookup for. So that's nice.

I absolutely love Homestuck. It's so addicting, I can't even believe it. I feel like I'm one of the few people who actually liked the beginning. I still have quite a lot to catch up to. I'm just a bit past the part where Doc Scratch is introduced. :/

The comic isn't ending too soon. To be honest if you consider most regular updating webcomics, Homestuck has had a good run. It's nearly just as long as Kevin & Kell which has been ongoing since 1995. Considering how events were turning for the past couple of months (of actual updating) Hussie made the right choice on finally ending it. Look how long Homestuck is and if you say it's too soon then you might want to reread it again. The story's been prolonged enough, and again, we still don't know how long the final update will be.

I'm glad Homestuck is finally getting around. I definitely recommend it. At first its boring and really sucks but as soon as it gets going you won't stop.

From what I hear the fandom is pretty much nonexistent at the moment. I really wouldn't know since most of the people I blog with post Homestuck a lot anyway but the activity has definitely dwindled in the perspective of conventions. I don't really see the fandom being very large anymore once it's over. If anything, Homestuck just seems like one of those things that will die out and be regarded as an infamous cult classic on the internet.

Going to a con next month with a pretty large Homestuck cosplay group! Some of us have even prepared more than one cosplay to debut (mine being both Feferi and Davesprite.)

I don't think we'll be going anywhere anytime soon after it ends, either. With the game on its way, everyone is just going even crazier than ever... And with the gigapause scheduled (Hopefully) for April 13th as stated by Hussie on MSPA, we've just gone completely nuts.

Speaking of the end of the gigapause and April 13th, that isn't an actual set date. Hussie has only stated that he hopes to have it finished by then, but it may not be very realistic. So Homestuck may not be ending very soon after all. But trust me, we are still here and very much alive! As well as very, very grey.

Meh. Again I see Homestuck going down as an internet cult classic thing similar to Rocky Horror but much bigger, and a little more active than that. I believe the fandom will stay strong around a year and a half after the gigapause ends (maybe a little more) but it will definitely dwindle down as with many things that end. I'm not saying that the fandom is completely gone right now but the level of activity is considerably lower since Homestuck and the fandom are much more symbiotic than other works tbh.

Who here is starting to hate the comic because of the fanbase and are frustrated over those feelings because it's best to be impartial and not take fandom so seriously? ((because i feel this all the time. does anyone under the age of 15 REALLY get what's going on without misinterpreting characters or the story? come on now)

I have read more than a few acts of Homestuck, and I enjoy it. Hussie is a genius, in all honesty. I do not think many other people could think of such a complex storyline, though I am still not very knowledgeable when it comes to Homestuck. I know most of my information from people I know. Even so, I think it was wise to post this thread. I like the fandom.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this yet. There's a group on YouTube called CoLabHQ who are doing a 'Let's Read' of Homestuck. It's not bad and the voices match pretty well (though John's and Jade's are a bit off). So far they're near the end of Act 5 Act 2, just after Terezi's coin flip (No spoilers >:])

In all honesty, I've found Homestuck to be rather unappealing. I will preface this with saying I read up to the very beginning to Act 6 before finally calling it quits. Simply put, I would read the content, laugh at the Pesterlogs, and realize I didn't understand the overarching plot. This may appeal to some people who prefer fighting for their story, but it simply isn't for me. I think a part of the reason I stuck with it for so long was because of the way a lot of fans wore it as a badge of pride on tumblr to the point of extreme elitism. I felt like it wasn't worth all the hype and reading it a little here and there is fun, but it really isn't anything to praise as a genius piece of literature or anything like that. I like nonlinear storytelling and huge casts of characters, but I found Homestuck to be rather juvenile and dense for the story it tries to tell. :\

I don't understand the hype about Paradox Space. All it is is officially endorsed fanfiction. Hussie is publishing it because he doesn't want to lose the sweet, sweet teat of Homestuck Money, but its going to die soon. Fans are already tired of the pause. I am between the lines of confused and amused.
I both do get what is happening and I also have no clue whats happening. Captchalouge? Skydallex? What even...

On the other hand I am REALLY enjoying the story. The sarcasm, characters and The very way the bloody comic works has won me over. I can see why people love it so much, but my utter confusion with the story is silently whispering, "maybe you should just stop reading"
But then my enjoyment is screaming "FUCKING CONTINUE"

It's almost over. These last too updates have made me pretty emotional. I'm not as into Homestuck as I used to be, but it still holds a very special place in my heart. It's almost surreal that it's finally coming to an end, after seven years. I am glad I found Homestuck and I'm thankful for all the great memories and friends it has given me.

Also, Karkat was too much for me to handle. I teared up a little for my tiny gay son. He's so excited about doing something meaningful, but also worried about Dave. It's so cute and sad at the same time. :')

The end was bittersweet. It left so much unresolved, but it was beautifully animated. Also, looking at it again, it seems like anybody who wasn't at the door on the platform was sucked into the black hole and died. Which means that only three trolls survived. I'm hoping I'm wrong on that and there's more survivors when the epilogue is released.
