if you're first starting out, pick something relevant to your intrists. I would personally recomend Hakuouki Shinsengumi kitan, No. 6, Code Geass, Deathnote, Love com, and Durarara (but you're posting this here so... I assume that you'

First manga I read was Sailor Moon. I had just moved to town and I wanted to make friends with some of the girls in my grade. They were all a twitter about Sailor Moon, so I decided I would look into it. I was instantly hooked, but what do you expect from a 3rd grader. And since I first picked up my manga and watched my first anime (which also was Sailor Moon), I've known that I've wanted to be a cartoonist. So Sailor Moon is the reason I'm in college. XD

My first manga was Tokyo Mew Mew.
I used to watch the anime when it came on on Saturday mornings when I was younger and I was really sad when it went off.
Then, one day my mom was shopping in Barnes & Nobles and at that time Tokyopop was still publishing the volumes. The familiar characters caught my eye. After happily grabbing the colorful Tokyo Mew Mew manga off the shelf in my young fangirlishness, I realized that the whole shelf was filled with pretty, big-eyed sparkly characters (shoujo, LOL) just like in Tokyo Mew Mew! And the rest is history. X)
(Though since then my manga choices haven't been quite SO shoujo-ish. LOL.)

It's a bit tough to remember, but in freshman year I got interested in anime (after a childhood of anime that I didn't know was anime. It never occurred to me the shows were foreign. Damn you 4Kids) and after watching Death Note and some FMA Brotherhood I decided to give the manga a try.

Mine was a Yu-Gi-Oh manga (I was somewhere around 10 years old and yugioh just became a thing in my school) I was shocked because it had profanity (again I was a ten year old and kinda sheltered from profanity from the most part,) booze and drugging girls... wtf... I saw no actual cards in the manga just a lot of messed up psychological games. BTW breaking a dice in 2 is how you can roll higher than a 6 on a single dice apparently

Personally I'm a bit embarrassed of what I'm going to say, but I started watching anime only like two years ago.
And what's worse, I was satisfied with only those episodes.
I'm the worst I know hahah
Then last year I started Shingeki no Kyojin - attack on Titan - and I liked it so much, and at the same time I was so unsatisfied with the end of the season that I started reading the manga.
And then I get used to reading them so even now I'm constantly reasearching titles. I have absolutely no regrets about it hahah
