Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titans.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a titan in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super titan that appears out of thin air. As the smaller titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Elen vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind.

First episode: holy shit.

I watched the the first 2 minutes and i'm already hooked. The idea of this anime is pretty original and the art work, though not the best, fits the style.

I have high expectations for this one.
I've always liked this kind of plot. Unfortunately, though, it looks like the anime will be a little short (22 episodes)

Just watched ep 2. This show looks phenomenal. The animation gives me a hard on. And Misaka is hot now, and now im thinking if I may have been sexually attracted to her when she was a child. Unfortunately, she is fictious, so that kinda bums me out. Anyway, good show.

Whole story is epic. I like that in this anime/magna people are realy dying and characters disappears. They are not some shiny sparkly heroes with supernatural abilities (ehm Eren - the end of spoiler). With every new chapter you get that thrill - who´ll be next?

AOT really is gonna blow up now that the anime has been released. The story in the manga just goes crazy from the point the animes at but its a good kind of crazy (no spoilers i know :P). But yeah so glad this is on the feed cos it deserves it.

I'm going to put my honest opinion about this anime, please don't ridicule me ._.

It's another SAO (Sword Art Online). Great story, great plot, but it gives itself so much credit. It's way to over dramatic it puts me off. I also got annoyed by how when it skipped only one year in like, ep 3 or so, magically Mikasa looks like she's 20.

And I'm probably gonna get so much hate for this but honestly, I find Sasha annoying. :l

Otherwise I like it, though. I want it to be a good anime, it just needs to tone down how dramatic it is and how much credit it gives itself.

I love this anime. I love how drama and tragedy are put in quite nicely. Sasha is adorable~. Mikasa and Eren are good together in my opinion~ I love this anime from the very beginning and I love how gory it is~~

- 1 year time skip Food Shortage and Eren gets sick of how everyone acts and so on. Mikasa force feeds him haha. (Episode 2)
- Another year time skip. Eren, Mikasa and Armin gets recruited and begins training. ( Episode 2 and 3)
- 3 years later, everyone graduates training. 5 years total since the first day the Colossal and Armored Titan attack. Also Colossal Titan reappears for 2nd time. (Episode 4)

This show definitely has one of the strongest starts of all anime ever. After the first episode I had became so invested in the show and watched all of it within 2 days......It`s definitely worth checking out!

This is a very beautiful Anime! At the beginning I thought that it was boaring but now...ahh it's beautiful! And Levi Rivaille is beautiful *W*

Though people are getting hyped about this anime, but I admit there are some weak points. The character sketches are poor, and the protagonist is not much well-developed, including the highly melodramatic dialogues. Another point is that the protagonist could not even fight properly in first few episodes, but in the flashback we see that the kid Eren kills the kidnappers of Mikasa coldly without any hesitation. How is that possible?

This anime/manga is something else, the danger seems so real when I watch Shingeki no Kyojin, it's amazing!

A very good show I thinking about picking up the manga after the series end.The story in it self is kinda interesting as it's not magic based (yet) you know no chants and magic circles ,Ive kinda grown tired of those and some of you may find it difficult to guess what will happen next in the upcomming episodes because the hints are very little.

I was NOT expecting it to be this good. I'm only through the first episode, and I'm absolutely hooked. I'm not a fan of the music. The main character seems to be a little melodramatic. Aside from that, it seems pretty interesting. Yes, the giants/titans idea has been done before - the thing I like about it is that they're drawing from those previous concepts rather than copying or remaking them. I also appreciate that it's a full-out apocalypse rather than just a localized problem.

I have noted quite a few similarities thusfar between this and the earlier episodes of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas.

As for the art, LOL. I didn't even think I'd need to comment on it. The art and animation is at that level that it's just ♥. I normally don't like all the line detailing, but this anime does it so well that I don't mind it.

I think the reason the fight scenes are followable is because they don't randomly throw in motion lines and nonchalantly skip a couple thousand frames at a time - it is continuous and follows what is going on. The camera angles are also damn good. I appreciate that it's not just a zoomed out screen of them fighting; it actually follows the characters.

Is it weird that I'm disappointed about how good-looking Mikasa becomes? I feel like the stereotype of "all female characters must be badass or beautiful" just doubled in this series by spontaneously applying both to the female lead. I wouldn't have minded it if it was that way from the start; I just got my hopes up that she wouldn't turn into some sex symbol from the first couple episodes.

Episode 6 provides backstory on the two that is starting to become a relevant factor in current events (episode 14). It wasn't there for no reason, or to try to make you feel bad for Eren.

Maybe that's cause I just hardly ever feel bad for the MC in an action show, whatevs.

Also I don't know what website you're watching this on or if you're torrenting or what, but episode 13.5 is an unnecessary recap episode that you can skip when you get to it. Just givin' ya a heads up.

It takes place in a fictional world between two warring countries and follows the story of the daughter of a beast tamer who gradually works her way into the conflict. Definite tear-jerker. Just enough action to suit your pallet without overriding the emotion. It has it's slice-of-life moments just as much as it has its political side stories and war battles. A little romance. So, I'm on episode twelve or so, and I have a theory that has been building for a while now. I just want to toss some ideas out there since I think I'm nearing the episode where they go into the basement and find out what's really going on. I might not be able to explain it without spoiling some things, so...

I was thinking back to episode eight/nine where they comment on the titan fighting other titans being like something borne from mankind's hatred and will to fight back. Later on, the general also mentioned the idea of mankind coming together in the face of a greater opponent, basically saying: "When man isn't at the top of the food chain, there will be no time for warring nor discrimination." This was proved wrong. During the current time, there is still discrimination and still a worry about wartime.

Keeping both these concepts into consideration, I have an idea about the creation of the Titans.

1. What if they were the solidification of hatred towards man, by man? Meaning that they're not a new species, but man itself blessed by some greater being to fight back against its own kind which treated it so poorly? It's like giving an abused kid a gun.

2. Or more realistically, I imagine the anime is going to play out with the second concept and say that they were genetically created by scientists like our protagonist's father in an attempt to bring mankind together. Because they don't reproduce, I don't think they are responsible for their own inhabitation of the Earth; I still think it's a spin off of humans. It could have originally been something contagious, like a virus of sorts that turned the humans it crossed with or was injected into the ability to turn into Titans, and most of them found themselves lost in the power or simply melted into their Titan bodies.

3. This could be a greater being's way of pressuring mankind into realizing what it has done wrong with its past by creating these reproductionless being that comes and goes. I find this the least interesting, but the most fitting considering they are called Titans. I don't understand how the doctor could have found a way to inject it into _____, though, since by normal standards of even fiction, a human can't apply a god's power. Or it could turn out that the doctor was a personification of god himself.

I'm probably completely wrong on all points. I'll leave this here, though, so I can laugh at my stupidity in a couple episodes.

That would be both disappointing and hilarious if it turned out to be true. Your three theories have my brain racked a bit more. Whatever it ends up being, I want it to make my jaw drop.

I'm so pleased with how the concept of banding together as humanity is portrayed in Attack on Titan. Instead of "oh we all have a common enemy, let's fight together with all our will," it's, as you said, quite apparent that class and position still play a huge factor in being able to stay alive and even striving to continue fighting at all.

Those of you who like the plot twists in Attack on Titan should go read/watch Pandora Hearts. I highly recommend reading the manga instead. (If you want to see them both to judge for yourself, then you should watch the anime first before reading the manga since less is spoiled in that order.)

It doesn't have as many fights as this, but the story is spectacular, and the last few arcs are complete mindfucks. The characters are dynamic and amusing. It has a great balance of comedy and drama. The animation in the anime is decent. The art is definitely above average in the anime, but in the manga, the art is gorgeous (imo) ♥♥♥.

This doesn't get as nearly as much hype for what it is. This series sends many of it's viewers on an emotional roller coaster. Which is more that could be said for most nowadays. In the year 2013 Anime is on a slow downward plummet of new and original material. Most stuff now is leaning toward Moe and/or Slice of Life comedies. Sure their other actions out there this year but look at most.
Attack on Titan a gem of something new and original that has not been pulled off in a while. Simply by watching, you can tell that this is beyond average. More ambition when into both writing and creating this manga/anime then you know.
And if you don't believe me, you can look up just how much Hajime Isayama put himself into writing this story.
So let me ask you this. Compared to the other material that is being hyped to all hell, How is this not deserving of it's hype?

I like it. At first, I didn't really like the animation style and Eren seemed to have anger management problems... but I kept watching. It is really good. My favourite character is either Sasha (potato girl <3) or Mikasa.

An excellent anime so far simply because it really does make you look at the survival aspect of the story, and humanity as an endangered species rather than a bunch of people being eaten by giant naked people lol. Its twists give you a heart attack as well.

I never really watched the anime, but saw a kid next to me watch it, and it was at a scene where someone got eaten. Kinda disterbed me, so I'm a little scared to watch it.... ^^;

If a second season hasn't already been confirmed by Production I.G., I'm fairly certain that it was set in stone from the moment episode 5 first aired.

Even if the rest of the series had some fairly serious flaws in it's pacing, for better or worse there's no way they can leave this series unfinished. Personally I look forward to it with hope, though we'll see in time just how well they handle the issues that are apparent in the manga. I believe thoroughly though that if they give themselves the license to play around a bit with what Hajime Isayama has already laid the foundation for, and get creative with solving some of the flaws present in his writing, that it can be extremely good. Given the current trends, however, that is a fairly big if.

I am so excited for the second season. It might take a while, but I'll gladly wait for it to air. This anime is just so brilliant and it makes me want to know what they're going to do next. Maybe even a few character revelations would be nice.

I think the reason it feels slow is because a lot of the key events unfold over multiple episodes.

One thing I really liked about the show is how they went into at least some detail to explain various things about the world in the eyecatches, and especially how they went into so much detail about their traveling formation outside the walls. I thought that was pretty nifty.

Did you guys hear? Bryce Papenbrook (aka Kirito from SAO, Rin from Blue Exorcist, and Masaomi Kida from Durarara!!) is going to be voicing Eren! I'm still a bit torn on whether or not he's a good choice. He's definitely not the person I would expected but... it could work. What do you guys think?

I'm really curious to see how the English dub turns out. I've heard samples of the English dub and I gotta say that some characters sound great, like Annie, Reiner and Armin. Levi sounds pretty good. I think Eren's voice actor is okay.
But Jean. Oh no. Jean sounds really weird and I don't like it.
Hopefully it doesn't bug me too much when the full English dub finally gets released!

This is just my opinion, but I really don't like the dub at all.

I'm not a dub hater; I really like some dubs (while others, I don't), but I really don't like this one. Bryce Papenbrook is in WAY too many things lately, and, no offense, his voice isn't really suited for Eren, or much a main character role for that matter. I liked him as Masaomi in Durarara!! (that role was his best one), and he was okay as Rin in Blue Exorcist, but not so good in this role.

Recently watched this, after all the hype cooled down. It was really good but not great because they tend to drag things and explain a lot about what they are gonna do then have it foiled by the titans... Also I really thought the show was gonna be about humans Vs Titans, but then Erin got the ability to transformed into a Titan and that sort of down the show for me, not that it's bad or anything, I just would of more like to see how Humanity would themselves get rid of the titans...

Yeah, but I think he's talking more about the fact that after Eren's ability gets used more often, he stops using the maneuver gear almost entirely, and the show focuses more on him. It loses the urgency a bit when Eren can just turn into a Titan and wreck everything in his way.
However, I think they still made it a little realistic, since Eren only uses his ability successfully once to put the rock back. The one time was luck (also not re-doable) and the other time he lost. They also kept using the maneuver gear often enough.


Also, I think if that Titan hadn't broken the wall, their comfortable lives wouldn't have lasted much longer. Something tells me if they really wanted everyone dead, they'd be dead, and that they're doing this for something else.

They announced the official cast today and , honestly , it sucks.I mean :

1.There are only 6 characters (Eren,Mikasa,Armin,Hanji,Sasha,Jean) from the anime/manga , the rest are new , original characters
2.There's no Levi (I'm not a huge Levi fan , but come on , he's Levi , he has to be included in the film)
3.Hanji's name is actually spelled as Hans (wtf)
4.Armin's hair is black , not blonde
5.All the characters are japenese ( I'm not racist or anything , I understand that the movie is based off an anime/manga , but , besides Mikasa who's half asian , the rest of the characters are caucasian , therefore they don't respect the original story)

People will call anything overrated nowadays.
I actually had to re-familiarize myself with the definition. Overrated: To have a higher opinion of someone or something than deserved.
Considering the awards the author has won, and the record breaking millions of copies he's sold, and the international recognition the quality of the animation and story has gained, you're all pretty much attempting (and failing) to be hipsters of anime... If you don't like something, just say that. But calling something overrated should only be done if it's (gasp) overrated.
Sick and tired of people calling something "overrated" just because it's popular. If we're to use that logic, then nothing should be popular right? Because whether it's a show or trend, as soon as it becomes something that a large amount of people like, it's "overrated"?

I mean, seriously, when is it allowed for something or someone to gain popularity and recognition...and it NOT being overrated?

Really, what is the criteria for this, because I'm dying to know when something or someone can be popular, and its/their popularity is warranted.

Attack On Titan is one of the very few mainstream and internationally recognized anime out there that is good. I think with that much popularity people will always find a way to denigrate it. Or maybe we truly know nothing about good animation.

I absolutely love this anime, everything down to the art. The character development is also good, but I will admit I've seen better.

Unlike SAO this deserved its Hype.

Season 2 episode 12 was hands down one of the best 22 minutes of anything I've ever watched

The finale was immense, Erens voice actor was amazing at how he had to react, the episode made us thinking that the cast was screwed but came forth erens new power and we saw it in all its glory against titans and titan shifters alike, we now have much more questions to ask, especially the beast titan's human form

Sundays are lame without titans (it´s already sunday in Japan)!
After season 2 has ended last week I have nothing to do now... nothing except waiting for 2018 for season 3...

Anyway, season 2 was awesome! Although the plot developed a bit slow for my opinion. Erens voice actor was amazing at the end! I read the manga but I love how everything comes to life in the anime. Can´t wait for season 3. I hope it´ll get 24 episodes and not only 12. I was kind of disappointed when season 2 came to an end...

I can't decide my favorite character. It used to be Marco, but he isn't half the man he used to be.
