A certain someone opened my third eye recently and I'm going to pour my thoughts regarding your ideas. My response are mixed, so I'll probably be harsh on some of these.
1. Popularity of the Dollars
> Spread rumors.
> Send friends and trusted people the website and password.
> Promote bbs-dollars.
> Email inactive members and ask if they want to come back.
I'm going to have to disagree on the rumor part, hell I'm strongly against it even. It sounds like a joke, I mean you're essentially just quoting the anime at this point. Didn't we want to diverge ourselves from them and show everyone that we're the real deal?
Emailing the inactive members would probably worth nothing at this point, I'm skeptical if they'd ever even check the inbox. If we want them to return, we need to prove them that we're currently going full throttle and visibly making a difference.
Promoting the website is what I've been doing since god knows when, you guys can go ahead with it. If it attracts trolls somehow, we always have the banhammer ready since a decade ago and I'm not even kidding.
Inviting friends and trusted people from our personal circle is also good to go, we used to have members joining like that and they didn't even know about Durarara let alone anime. Our community back then consisted of intelligent discussion regarding the world, philosophical and moral questioning discussion and all that shit, and that's exactly what made them stick around. If we're going real, might as well get rid of all the weeb culture and centralize it on Animations and Comics board only (plus VN board).
2. Members and Information
> Members should speak english.
> Everyone should do something to make the world a little bit better each day no matter how small.
> Never share another Dollar member’s real Information.
> Have Activity once a week, it needs to be an announcement! Because people like special things and like to have unordinary things (and announcements make it something special).
> Members need to give Information in what country they are in.
> They can decide to do work outside or inside (Online or irl).
> Each member posts on introduction but they need to make a new email, specifically for the dollars and put it there. Also make second social media accounts with your dollars nickname and with a dollars pfp. In the description write something like: I’m X and I am a member of the Dollars.
I have no problem with these ideas except for the email and social media account part. It is ultimately everyone's own decision if they want to make a new account or not, I myself used my main alternative email instead of making a new one to save myself from all the hassle of remembering passwords. Social media account, I just used my online persona account. Doesn't necessarily need to explicitly states you're a Dollar member, just put your name and tripcode there. Just defeats the purpose of being anonymous imo, feel free to shot me down if we're not on the same frequency, I myself won't go down without a fight as well unless your argument is foolproof.
Regarding the announcement though, you're gonna need to plan that thoroughly. What to put in there, for what purpose, and where will you put it. I don't want a half-baked thread without clear intention nor description appearing in any of the important boards, we are a community so lets discuss it here.
3. Groups in close area
>> Every weekends a drrr.com chatroom in each country using the same name as in BBS.
>> Catch up with the news or just do something fun.
>> If you are a new member look for people close in your area.
>> Share the dollars email in the chatroom. That should be done at least once every two weeks.
I've been hanging out in drrr.com for the past 3 years using this username, yet I've only ever met someone from here (who was apparently a troll at that time) and that time I was even afking so I never got to talk to him, just the chat history calling me out. Got tired of waiting anyone so I just hang around here nowadays.
Now, for what purpose does the email sharing happens again? Please elaborate, I still didn't get the point. People could've just used other social media such as Twitter or Discord, so why should it be email?
4. Exchange of information and meeting locations
>> Meet up with local members around you, make sure the place is full of people, on weekend, at noon but before it's dark.
>> Use a codeword like: “What colour are we?” “Colourless” -Idea from Ruku on bbs-dollars, suggestion thread.
>> Perhaps exchange phone numbers and dollars nicknames upon meeting up, stay in-touch with the group(s) until new member joins. Self explanatory for newer members, join the group when one already existed. If not, try joining the closest area group or postpone until more members are gathered in the same area. In the meantime, work online.
We've decided our unique logo and codes to recognize each other as far as I can remember, I just forgot in which board the thread were posted. Might need a little digging for this, but I distinctly remember Logo thread is in Suggestion board though so try diving through the archive I guess.
5. Yearly meet-up with dollars in countries
>> Yearly meet-ups to strengthen each country's Dollars.
>> On 21 June (bc longest day of the year, so a lot of sun and less likely someone be kidnapped.
We've organized yearly meetings before, on Dollars Day which is 19 June as a way to celebrate the site's birthday. Haven't been doing it for the past few years due to our dwindling number though.
6 Work and rewards
No way I'm summarizing that block of paragraph so I'll keep it short. With our current situation, going outside for some of us is probably a no go. There's also the problem in our small number, the regular members that did want to participate in Missions are probably divided by a huge distance while the local members prefer online Missions which are less of a hassle for obvious reason.
7 Social media and promotion
>> After doing a deed, make picture/screenshot and upload it to your Dollars account with a hashtag like #Dollars (or something) on the post. This way we know how much a person has done in a month and what the deeds were.
An alternative to this is by posting such picture on their respective Mission thread in the respective Mission board. Or we can do some sort of compilation like
this by the Dollars Discord.
8 Additions and improvements
>> Start a patreon site for the dollars or something, where you can give a tip to someone who just helped you.
>> Add a new 'work' called supporters. Supporters promote dollars in social media. Maybe they can spread some news. They can make a patreon, merch or something that will strengthen the bonds and support the Dollars and make outside people more interested in joining or supporting.
>> Maybe make the site not accessible to all (At the moment everyone can just google the bbs-dollars). Dollars can send the site url and password to make it a special moment for new members.
I'm not against the patreon idea, but how are we supposed to distribute the money?
I'm quite against the Supporter role or whatever you may call it, as well as the explicitly promoting the Dollars through social media. It just felt flashy imo, I don't think we'll need that much spotlight to begin with.
Regarding the password page, we've talked about this dozens of times. It's for aesthetic purpose only and even then, most of the members that knew about Durarara still got stunned the first time they arrived on the site.
Whew that's fucking long, sincerely hope you're gonna still be around to read this or else it will all be for nothing. The same "Lets make a difference" bs cycle all over again.
