Dollars on Medium? (8)

So I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in creating a presence on Medium.

In simplest terms, Medium is an app for writers, mostly geared towards articles and the like.

I was thinking that perhaps some people on here would be interested in writing for a Dollars publication? Nothing really geared towards direct news, since I highly doubt our group is full of professional journalists, but more like entertainment or feel-good articles; book/TV reviews, advice columns, and maybe tiny stories about activity in the chatrooms.

I posted this in Literature, but after thinking about it for a while, this was probably the better place for it (that, and it didn't really receive much attention there).

So, what do you all think?

I was going to do something similar for a Mission. We'd make a blog that autoposts any articles sent to an email (or at least queue them for vetting / edits), but moderating it with the platform I used was going to be hell, so I backed off the idea.

Medium seems way more self-sustained, though. I'd love to set up some article-based Missions there with their own publications.

What is the culture like? Not sure how well an overarching Dollars pub would do there, but I'm not against it either.

It's pretty good. It's kinda like Wattpad for journalists, though without a lot of the cringey kinds of things you tend to see there XD
Things you'd expect from a news website, but a lot more laid back.

And starting up a Medium publication actually allows for that kind of moderation, because everything that is published through the group has to be approved by it's editors.

>>3 That was my concern lol. I expect a lot of cringe from this community, so I'm not sure how well it'll be received on a more professional site. Nothing wrong with trying I guess. (Maybe don't keep a direct link to the BBS on any publications, though?)

Can editors only approve/reject what's submitted? Some actual copy editing would help.

They can also edit pieces too. I haven't seen the full breadth of what's possible, since I've never had a publication on there. I just kinda know all this from how it's described on site.

And yeah, it's a bit more professional, but there are also lots of amateur writers. By cringe, I mean the weird sex shit you usually find on Wattpad (literally every inquiry I search up, I find something).

I might include a kind of application process to cut down on the cringe a bit. Like in order to be an actual writer for the publication, they may have to pass anyone non individuals of test. Something like asking what topics they're interested in writing on and having them respond to an essay prompt or two on those topics. Then, we'd look at how well they use proper grammar and conventions, as well as fact check as necessary.

People who don't "make the cut," however, could still submit pieces to a Google Form so we can quality check them, and then we can post them and say "By: [screenname]"

>>5 I mean, go for it. Ask around the site (in existing threads related to the topics you want writers on) to see if anyone would actually be interested in participating.

I probably won't submit anything to the overarching publication, since I'd like to put time into running smaller ones for specific missions, something that'd allow / encourage outside submissions. (It won't interfere with whatever you'd like to do here, so don't worry about my antics ^^)

Alright.

I might be a bit late to the party but I quite like this idea.

Under the 'literature' section there's a Dollars' Wattpad account being run which is accessible to everyone so perhaps people could post their articles on there and the suitable ones handpicked for the Medium account.
