Hi Dollars,

The power and knowledge that we have is all dependent on our recruitment and the people who are involved.

Now I know our community is good so far, it would be nice if it were bigger and there was more traffic. Now that is hard.

We don't want trolls or anything, yet we want people who would post a lot more content than there is now. /

How about a recruitment list?

This is the idea. A shared file that gets updated about who is contacted or not, why someone should be recruited and a group of dollars who would volunteer to send emails.

I know anyone can join but if we make the Dollars into a thing, it will become a thing.

Opinions and brainstorming welcomed.

Mons.

That sounds like a great idea! I completely agree with you! It would be nice to have something like that for when/if we ever become more than just unknown. I think it would also be very beneficial to have a test with a set of questions/scenarios that the taker should answer to see if they would be a good member for us.

THAT'S THE STUPIDEST FUCKING THING I'VE EVER HEARD! The whole point of, the dollars is that anyone can join, all it is is a name. Moreso, if you are a member of the dollars and you think someone else should join then you just tell them, you don't need extra permission from anyone!

This is not suitable for the Dollars as a whole.
First, like Naga Sake said, the whole point of the Dollars is that anyone can join. Doing this would render us to being exclusive, we don't want that as it's been discussed multiple times in the past.

Second, while I agree that we don't want trolls (it's exhausting to continuously bumping the threads that people apparently can't read or are blind to), I have to ask, what do you mean by, "we want people who would post a lot more content than there is now"? In my time here, I have not seen a complaint about the amount of content being lacking. In fact, it's the opposite.
Third, the Dollars are a thing already, you and I are both here, no? If you meant this in terms of publicity, check this thread.

Good day.

OK it is not to be exclusive Naga Sake and Alcazar. It is to invite more people.

Don't you have friends that you wish to invite but you don't want to do it yourself because it is really weird to invite a friend through an anonymous account?

Well let me tell ya, it is weird.

But if we have a list so other Dollars actively invite, we can seem more like an organization and less like a weebo being creepy towards one of his friends.

It helps to get people interested rather than to discard the idea.

Wouldn't you agree with the idea?

What about telling them about the Mission Board or a specific Mission (free rice etc), where a group of dollars do something good to show other people that we are a community who tries to support good causes and likes to talk about all kinds of things on the other board?

Having to provide a specific reason as to why someone wants to recruit another is exclusive. If someone doesn't provide a good enough reason, the potential recruit won't be sent the email to join.
Not only that, you'd have to provide a set of guidelines for a sort of judgement as to whether or not recruit each and every person wanting in.

You also never answered my question, what do you mean by "we want people who would post a lot more content than there is now"?
There's plenty of content.

In addition to the above discussion, I'd also be concerned about the amount of personal information you're potentially going to be introducing / storing in that kind of document.

For example, if someone want to recruit a person they only know in real life, will they by posting their real name? Will the "reasons" be real descriptions of that person or events from their offline life? Will their email info be kept next to their offline info? etc. Even if it was only username / email, you may end up sharing something they wanted to be private without realizing it (email included), immortalizing it in the doc history.

I wouldn't support that kind of storage of personal information. If people want to recruit their friends on an individual level, go ahead, but making it into some big group-run thing with an associated creep list sounds really... off.

Very much approve of this. Broadening the recruitment can be very bad and have seen both sides of the spectrum when its put into action. Now selective recruitment is a different story altogether. Although I have yet to see it done, in theory its very sound. But the dollars are evolving and if selective recruitment turns out to be a mistake then we should learn from it and adapt.

I say we make this a mission: Recruit as many Dollars as possible. Have everyone send a text message to all their friends or post about the site on social media. Theres no way this sites gonna get as big as for example Facebook. But those that are willing to stay will stay. Either way, more members cannot mean a bad thing. And if mods are concerned about having to go through every single message then we should hire more mods. Maybe we could have full on renovation of the site if we could get enough revenue. Oh! And a side note: If there are problems running the site I believe we should set up a patreon or some place members could donate.

>>11 As far as we know, mods are not paid, and the issue of moderating during influxes has more to do with how the backend is structured than just the number of mods there are.

Seriously:
If you intend to do anything drastic regarding advertisement or funding, please contact the admin first and get his approval. He has his own businesses to focus on outside of the BBS and may not have time to dedicate to the technical / legal issues of a significant user influx or unverified third-party funding.

I said IF that was a problem.

Seriously: Read the post properly before replying

And regardless of the backend structure I'm sure an increase in number of mods will make a difference or at least take some weight off the current mods we do have.

>>13 And I said IF you do anything drastic c:
>>14 I did read the post, and I did reply accordingly.

>>15 I don't disagree, but 1) finding a large number of trustworthy mods is a security issue unless you want to put money into hiring them, and 2) a high number of mods doesn't make the influxes any less hellish. They can only close things so fast. Threads slip through. Things stay derpy until the site slows back down again.

We've been there, done that, and imo the site's design is just not made for a large number of users. The concept was cute and all in the show, but after six years of seeing it get abused irl, it's definitely got its limits.

(Also, I love reltair, but keep in mind that we're talking about the admin who hasn't updated our copyright banner since 2015. Not many suggestions are getting approved these days.)

If all this debating is over a hypothetical situation. I would say its irrelevant to the actual subject of discussion. Get more dollars to sign up. Unless you have actual concerns about the hypothetical nettraffic that would be there if more people came to the website then I don't see in dragging this out any further.

And if you say you ARE that concerned then I say we worry about having to hire mods when we actually have to hire mods. I bet the site's current mod knows a couple people that could help. The situation isnt as complex as ur making it out to be and its starting to feel like your arguing just for the sake of it.

>>17 I'm not arguing..? Just trying to catch you up to speed with what we already know. There's a lot of stuff about the site that isn't obvious from first glance, and you'll want to have a general understanding of it when making suggestions.
