Email notification (70)

1 Name: Sleepy Savior : 2014-10-25 11:28 ID:F+2Z7+w/ [Del]

I was just wondering at the possibility of getting email notification. I just think adding an email slot on the post section (optional of course) so that instead of going through every thread checking for replies, we can be told when we get responses on ones we track. I know other no membership forums/websites that use a similar post system with it. So yeah, any possibility?

I agree that this would be a useful tool, but it most definitely should be optional.

I think it's a good idea! It can be like in the anime :D

8 Name: HoLo : 2014-11-10 21:55 ID:Ecz2ZFTS [Del]

he's right email notifications would be perfect for knowing the projects and or ideas other members come up with.

9 Name: C-BLANK : 2014-11-16 18:41 ID:FxONLCzo [Del]

I agree

10 Name: Shirai-san : 2014-11-16 21:40 ID:mTzsGJOe [Del]

Ah, it'll be a good idea, but we'll have to have multiple accounts in order to do so.

11 Name: Zasshu : 2014-11-24 06:03 ID:TOneD3Of [Del]

Yes! I'm SUPER agreed with that email notification stuff ^_^

I second it.

Yes I think that would be a great Idea. I'm with you. It would make it easier for checking for new thread's/post relating to your appealing.

I agree

19 Name: Inuhakka !inb4CaTsQw : 2014-12-03 17:50 ID:b1LFSN5V [Del]

I don't think this is worth the effort it would take to implement. Unless one of you that supports this idea has some kind of background in Perl or Kareha, this probably won't get put in place.

20 Name: Asume : 2014-12-04 08:04 ID:IMghf6/P [Del]

I have been wanting this for so long!!! If there was an option under the comment box to subscribe to the thread and you would get an email for each new reply that would be so great.

21 Name: king0fcats !KiIJ.5zx7w : 2014-12-04 14:46 ID:IerOT4Ml [Del]

Agreed. Bump

22 Name: Chaos : 2014-12-10 22:07 ID:ZSE42fc1 [Del]

Absolutely Agreed! Bump! Bump! Bump!

Here's a scenario/food for thought:

With instant email notifications on threads that we want notifications for, we could respond faster.
So say I wanted notifications from the Massachusetts dollar forum, I could check off a box or something for that and get instant notifications when someone posts something new on that thread.

Say someone posted, I need someone to help me move these boxes or I need a hiding spot. I'm at so-and-so place. Then when I get that notification update instantly, I can reply on the forum instantly and be like, I'm right around the corner on so-and-so street. I can help.

It would make the forums and chat more lively. We dollars have so much to gain from implementing an optional system like this.

23 Name: Chaos : 2014-12-10 22:09 ID:ZSE42fc1 [Del]

I would like to know what the Dollars' website developer(s) has/have to say about this.

I totally agree, someone should contact the website admin about this

32 Name: Bakyura : 2015-01-04 17:36 ID:YsDczXcR [Del]

It sounds good but I don't understand exactly how that would be possible? Doesn't that mean we're required to have an account that our email is connected to? Or would it be IP-based? I don't think it even works to have it IP-based, so..

36 Name: Annie : 2015-01-11 12:13 ID:EZuZ6SOq [Del]

well then how about each one of us would make a user for ourselves in this webb site and we also have to type in our email-adress? in that way we could be connected immediately. it is just an idea thought but if we cant contact the admin then this wont work because we will have to change the whole webb site and admin is the only one who can do that

>>35 Yes, so does posting on it.

But I don't think that will work because the site is password protected .o.

Yep, sorry, it seams that site isn't working. I just googled it and posted without testing it first.

40 Name: Diefonk !!e2ZY8mZl : 2015-01-22 09:00 ID:8Ygi51M1 [Del]

I just received an Email from ChangeDetection about a change on the Literature board, but it's the only Email I've received and I've been monitoring several pages for twelve days now, so I'm very confuzzled. It says on the website that the service usually checks for changes once a day, which it obviously hasn't done, or maybe it somehow got through the password protection just now and hasn't been able to do that before.

41 Name: BarabiSama !lmBitchbiw : 2015-01-24 11:36 ID:Y85zOfQu [Del]

>>40 The BBS was just glitching up the past few days. I don't think it'd work long term.

42 Name: Emma : 2015-02-11 16:14 ID:nMX7c3UK [Del]

Implementing an account with personal email and password would help with notifications, but change the Anonymous status we have. It's a big change that no everyone would accept I guess. (even if it's ok for me)

43 Name: Diefonk !!e2ZY8mZl : 2015-02-12 01:13 ID:ysnxMSfG [Del]

I thought I'd wait a bit to say this because I wasn't completely sure, but I've been getting emails from ChangeDetection ever since I last wrote in this thread and at first I believe it was just as BarabiSama said (>>41) but after a few days I no longer got emails from all the threads and boards I follow, only the once thay actually changed. I got an email when Emma replied to this thread and so I thought that now I can be sure that it works and share it with you.

44 Name: Emma : 2015-02-12 09:51 ID:nMX7c3UK [Del]

>>43 This is awesome! We should write it for the new members on the main maybe.

45 Name: BarabiSama !lmBitchbiw : 2015-02-12 19:43 ID:8tapOvW0 [Del]

>>43 This is still because of a glitch on the site. The login is broken, which is allowing the website to access the pages it normally would not without a password.

46 Name: BarabiSama !lmBitchbiw : 2015-02-12 19:44 ID:8tapOvW0 [Del]

And if you must spread the word of the magic of Change Detection, please don't make a thread about it. Just make it an addition to the FAQ.

47 Name: Diefonk !!e2ZY8mZl : 2015-02-13 01:10 ID:ysnxMSfG [Del]

>>45 I assumed that wasn't an intentional change, but I honestly feel that it's a good one. The password feels more like a novelty thing more than a necessary protection, and if anyone's concerned with people being able to get in without knowing the password keep in mind that they then have to know the address of one of the other pages on this site, which might be possible but I find it unlikely unless they've been here before. Furthermore this site is supposed to be open for all and anybody who didn't already know the password could just google it.
>>46 I don't know about Emma, but that's exactly what I thought to do in that case.

48 Name: BarabiSama !lmBitchbiw : 2015-02-13 04:39 ID:/t/1zyal [Del]

>>47 I'm not against the idea, tbh. It would make creating an app for the site 10x easier if we could bypass the password straight to the pages, and it'd also allow us to to search using images from the site.

However.

This also means that the entire site will be indexed in search engines, as seen here, which I find really disturbing. I'll be a lot more careful about what I say from here on if the threads are going to show up in search engines.

You can also search names of people and topic names from here on there.

That means we can actually have a search bar, the code would just need to hold in a url (the above " site:dollars-bbs.org dollars bbs" bit) so that it'll automatically open up Google in a tab based on what word or words you post and automatically search the site.

It's actually super easy to make a simple HTML-esque search bar being only limited to searching parameters from a certain url/keywords.

It goes to show this site will always be indexed to that degree.

No, either way, someone just needs something to hold the cookie from login.php(if it were still working).
Here's what I'm going to do.
I will try to make my first Ruby on Rails app for the BBS when I get home.

60 Name: JackDenkin : 2015-03-11 10:42 ID:g2z0sodK [Del]

Doesnt this usually require an account, so that the creator of the thread will receive an email? Is there an IP specific sending email to? Probably not.

On other sites you put your email beteath your name. If anyone responds to you (like how I did the thing with your number, 60) or posts in the thread (this only works if you created it) it would send an email to that address. You can sometimes also subscribe to threads.

bump because I really want this! I know >>33 linked a website that can do this, but I'd really like a more official membership and notification system anyway!

68 Name: Diefonk !!e2ZY8mZl : 2017-02-19 20:36 ID:o9CZ5WiK [Del]

Not sure about "official membership", but it'd be pretty nice to have the option to put in your email when replying to a thread, says the guy who was only brought back here because he recieved an email about this thread being changed. So yeah, I haven't been here in a while, so I don't know if there's a decent app with notifications by now, but that'd be optimal, really, in my opinion.
