Topic Posting Requirement(s) (18)

1 Name: Thiamor !ZPE1Q6VxaY : 2013-10-22 13:23 ID:nZpbdosX [Del]

(Hopefully I am using the right trip, when I post and choose the name there are 3 versions with 3 trips)

Anyway I suggest some way to implement posting requirements.
First thing's first. Based on your IP (even if it changes it'll greatly limit who can do this) it makes it where you cannot post your own topics until say 1 day after your IP is recorded (or say 12 hours at least) and then when it's up, it allows you to post topics.

You can post in other topics, but with the above you have to wait to make your own topics. This way newbies will have to read posts or at the very least, ask on topics what they have to do.

I feel this would help a great deal, and with those with a changing IP it won't hurt them to have to wait 12 hours to post their topics.

>>2 This. I don't feel like waiting 12 hours to post a topic, especially when some dynamic IP's will change multiple times per day.

>>1 This would also limit them from posting in the Introductions board.

Not sure I'd like this. If my IP never changed there'd be no problem, however that isn't the case.

This kind of thing would work with traceable accounts, but with the unique structure of this website I don't think there really is a way to eliminate newbie mistakes without changing the website itself. The whole point of this website is that you can't track or trace its members.

Maybe instead, have the topics needing to be accepted by a mod for it to show up? The main issue is hoping we have a mod on every time (or close) to when a topic is posted.

Not posts itself. Once the topic is accepted, then all posts inside of it posts like they normally do. This way all WRONG topics aren't seen at all if the mods don't let them get passed.

>>5 thats a much better idea, but the a problem that could arise is just because ones standards of a thread is one way, doesnt mean anothers is the same. Some sort of voting area on all threads for a specific board would be good, but not something limited to mods to view, but instead the entire community.

So instead of a mod being able to accept it, the community.

I think a little tweak with the visuals to match my following plan would be in order.

I personally think we might as well start making this our own site, it's own own, but because DRRRR fans can come in and take a guess that we could be a fan site, we might as well mix and match.

First thing's first, I don't think once you log in, that it should go to MAIN. I think a sort of home page where it shows a sort of feed. This feed shows 1 important, most popular topic for each board. Not the posts, but the name and opening post.

Somewhere to the side is a "topic que" where all posted topics are awaiting to be voted on, thus activated. 1 vote per IP and per name so that it makes it a bit harder for someone with a different IP but same name can vote. Once so many votes are in for it to go, it'll be posted, if it is to stay, it'll be deleted so the que isn't always full.

Then a sort of link or button that then takes us to the community section, ie, Main. With the home page it can be visually stunning to look more unique, and to match the needed functions.

Here is an example just to give an idea. Somewhere the Que button needs to show up, possibly with the active number of topics in the Que ON the button.

Also each of those 14 buttons would have to be bigger, and it show a the current, popular topic for each. Over top of the buttons would say where they are from.

I am somehow baffled that we would ever need such a complicated system on a tiny website that barely gets any activity. How many votes would there need to be for a thread to get through? Would people actually be arsed to vote? Because except for regulars I'm inclined to think they wouldn't care.

I can't agree with the idea in the opening post or the new one because they are both almost in equal parts useful in deterring bad thread from happening and just a big potential inconvenience for regular posters.

And I can't help but think how this "thread queue" would look when remaking a RTT for example lol

Well possibly there would need to be option for which thread it's being submitted to, so in the Que it could be categorized and categorized in the same order as the boards are in.

Also they would care if it meant their own topics not showing up. Also I'd say 10 to 20 votes based on the board it's being submitted to. Random and main have the MOST activity, thus more people obviously going on, thus more votes needed to submit to those types.

I don't really agree with this, but I will suggest something.

Instead of basing it on IP, base it on the first time the username has been used in the Intro boards (ex- require they post in Introductions before anywhere else). Or better yet, require they comment in the FAQ using their username. When they go to post, if their username isn't found in the FAQ thread, the text area will be replaced with a link saying, 'Please read the site's FAQ before posting.' The problem is that the FAQ would need a permanent link that is editable, though that would also save us the trouble of bumping it as a thread.

That's all a little round-a-bout, but it's an idea.

Either way, there is just too much room for error with dynamic IP's, and most newbs won't think about using someone else's name (unless they use a generic anime name, which is alright since it's less people). There are trolls who dopplegang, but they would have gotten past it one way or another despite any limits placed, so that's not too much of a concern.

There is another thread in this board which suggested requiring post limits, by the way. I believe the other one suggested requiring a minimum word count, and I think there's another one for community approval of a thread based on votes or something. Not sure if any of those could be related to this.

I'd rather just have the default homepage be Introductions or About or the FAQ or something when you log in through the main site. That way, new people will be forced to see the FAQ (which I know a lot of them still haven't) or Introductions or About or whatever. The older members could just set their homepage/bookmark to dollars-bbs.org/main to get around this.

>>14 It just might be trouble when people with the names such as 'izaya' or 'ennis' join. They are actually fairly common and are often the ones that need to read the FaQ the most, but they all use the same username so you can never know which one is new or not.

I just feel like this is a good idea but not strictly necessary. It would probably be a bunch of work for Reltair, and there are other things that could definitely be considered more urgentish.

i dont think that the names are any trouble at all..people should feel free to be who they wanna be..names (alias) is just one of the ways we all show our characters..

Good idea.
