Okay, so I'm srry if this idea was brought up in the past or if there are already threads that talk about this, but can we have a new board dedicated to school? People can talk about their classes, ask for help on homework and other school related topics. I think it would be a good idea because the Dollars could help each other academically. What do you guys think?

While there are enough school-based topics to warrant its own board, I feel like it hasn't gotten out of hand to the point where it really feels like we need a board. We've contained them fairly well within Personal and Random.

I honestly think it's not a bad idea, though. It's also one of those topics that we'll get even more threads for once there is a board for it; since most of us are students, it'll probably become a popular board very quickly.

I would suggest calling it Education rather than School. Or something else related to it. That way, it's about learning in general and not just the stereotypical school systems.

I mean, School would fit better, look better, and be appreciated more, but in my personal opinion, it's kind of blah.

Education would actually fit better than school in my opinion. By looks and I personally feel that alone would be more appreciated since not everyone is still 'in' school and would still learn or teach stuff to others.

With education it implies you can post about more stuff that isn't going to commonly be found in a normal 'school' setting.

IE, learning more in-depth stuff about languages, technology, math, science, construction (drafting and the like) and even more.

Thank you guys for your feedback. I understand that there are members that are not in school anymore, but i think that an "Education" name for the board is too broad. There can be so many threads in that name which can fall into other boards. I'm not saying that its a bad idea; members teaching each other in various fields sounds awesome, but i personally feel that a school board will be more "fitting." I think its just me, but i think i can relate to and open up more in a board about school. i appreciate your replies and i hope i didnt offend any of your ideas.

Calling it school would be way to limiting, there is a reason why we have a board called animation, and lit., and tech, because they are broad things that encompass many topics.

It's basically pointless if we just call it 'school'. Again it's too limiting and if it were to fit on 'here' it would need to follow the theme of our site.

What fits with you, no offense, isn't what fits with the site.

If you look we use more broad terms so it can fit with everyone and lessen the need for more boards being created.

Just think of 'one' board. Right now even if we do have a need for a board, we don't have the need to have a sub-board. There isn't a lot of topics being made that would warrant both an Education board and a School sub-board.

There is enough for it to work for one board, and as it stands now there is no need for it to be 'School'.

At first, I didn't see what else would fit within an Education board other than school but I agree with >>4 now. This might be a good opportunity for some of the more experienced Dollars to share their wisdom, if they so choose.

I remember when we added the personal section, and why we added it in the first place. People had always been posting personally-related topics on the BBS, many of which fell into some heavy disagreement about where they should have been placed or if they even belonged on the boards at all. Even more to the point, there were many people who were bothered by the presence of personal situations on other boards, so eventually a number of us agreed that there needed to be a separate board to put it all.

So why am I blathering on about an existing board in a thread about one yet to be created? It's really quite simple. The content was already in the BBS, we just gave it a place to exist. Honestly, I don't see any of this in terms of either "school" or "education". There's no major arguments, no serious concerns about "education-related content" existing in other boards and most importantly, not a great demand or prevalence of "school" threads.

The last one we made was taking existing content and sorting it into it's own board. This would pretty much be the opposite. We're discussing creating a board that really doesn't have a great deal of preexisting interest, which seems like a needless waste of space. Unless I can observe otherwise, idealistically I'm against it.

While it's not happening 24/7 doesn't mean it doesn't, nor does it mean it doesn't need it's own topic just because it died down a little bit.

I personally think technology and literature should be a sub-board of Education, and everything else, like school work, math, history and such in general should be placed in the Educational boards.

I'd like too to have a Education or School board. It would be useful, really, there are some topics that cannot be posted in any other board, neither Literature and Technology...

One good thing would be, it could be used for organization. The Education board can go right under the Art board, and Technology and Literature can be sub-boards for that.

This way there will be two less boards in replace for one on the left side. Not counting all of the topics that will easily fit into Education, as well as Tech and Lit as it already stands.

I think this would be very useful, though there is a thread in the personal board where people are taking requests about their personal life, and most people are talking about their education at school. Just wanted to point that out.

Literature is as much a school subject as it is a hobby or just entertainment. The same reasoning for putting it and Tech under Education would work with almost every board. Music is a school subject, Animation and Film are also fields that can be studied etc.

If Education happens it should be a new board and not subsume any others. It can include school work related stuff, education system related stuff or any other kind of learning resources or whatever. I'm not sure I support it happening though, since, as others have said, it's not certain it will actually get activity.

Put this Anonymous guy down for an Education board. But put me on board for what Bang-bang said too. We shouldn't make Literature and Technology a sub-board.

I know this is two years after the convo died, but I think that the idea of an Education/School/whatever you want to call it board is pretty good. I know sometimes I need some tips on academic stuff, but I never know where to post them. and I really like to avoid having about two or three people rip my head off because I posted something that shouldn't be posted there, when in fact there is no specified place to post them in the first place. So, yeah, I'd like to re-kindle this discussion.

I think that's a great idea

I think it would be an amazing idea, but i feel that some people would just ask others to do ALL of there homework for them... but besides that i like the idea!
