Next/Previous Thread Links (17)

This idea basically relates to the moderate annoyance of going through the thread archive. We only have one page of ten threads where we can look at threads without looking them up. Otherwise, we have to scan through the titles in the View All Threads page. It gets kind of annoying opening every thread up in its own tab from the page when all you want to do is scan through them.

I think it would be useful if there were "Next Thread" and "Previous Thread" links (or just "Next" and "Previous") at the bottom right of the thread when you're viewing it on its page. These links would bring you to the next or previous thread link as they're positioned in the archive.

Opinions?

I'm all for it actually. Cuz itd really make it easier to just scroll through the next set of threads without having to load the whole archive.

So basically, unless I'm mistake, it'd look like this page, but then show the next 10 threads?

As long as the "View all Threads" button stays, then I'm all for this.

>>3 Not quite. Say if you clicked on this page's title, it'd bring you to the thread page, not a page of threads. Then, you'd sift through the threads one by one. And no, the View All Threads button wouldn't be changed at all.

I suppose it could be done the way you thought I meant as well, but I have a feeling that doing it one link at a time would be easier than coding it to recreate this page of ten threads with every click.

>>4 Is it like how 4chan does their threads? Like, showing a preview of their threads, same as ours, and then having a next page, etc?

Am I gonna have to get a visual for you guys? :I

Oh okay. Not like 4chan. I thought you meant like this, where it shows a certain number of threads on one page, and then there's a next button to go to the next page.

>>8 No, that's what Thiamor was talking about. I'm saying to just load one full thread each time so that you're not forced to continuously redirect yourself back to the previous page to pick what thread you want to see all of.

Basically so you can browse the boards thread by thread without clicking on an individual link from a giant list every time. I think it'd be especially useful with Mission since a lot of the time you can't tell what the mission itself is by the title.

Personally, I just leave the View All Threads open on one tab and open a new thread with another tab.

But, it seems kinda slow to do this function, since you're just clicking next one thread at a time. And since a lot of boards by now have like 500 threads, it'd take much more time to browse the entire board, one thread at a time.

Not to mention those with slow internet and not much patience wouldn't wait for a thread of like more than 100 posts to wait for the entire thread to load just to wait for the bottom of the thread to come up and click the next button, but those are probably a minority.

I feel like my post is full of rambling nonsense.

>>10 I do the same thing you do opening them each in separate tabs, as I said. But it seems kind of silly to be opening a hundred tabs just to look at what's on the board. And five hundred isn't much compared to most forum sites, to be honest.

The point of browsing the whole board is that you want to see each thread. If only wanted to see a few, you'd just open a few.

No, I agree that I wouldn't want to wait for the thread to load to switch threads, but if there's no way to put it at the top in an aesthetically pleasing way, in the end I don't give a damn even with my slow internet so long as the feature exists. The only other thing I could think of regarding that is to make it so you can also activate it with your left/right arrow keys.

I don't think it'd be so hard to code your way, nor my way. At-least with my one idea less clicking and you won't have to click each link itself just to see what the opening post is about.

>>12 Yeah, neither seem too hard; I just figure making a link to show one thread would take less time to make than a link to show ten previews, but if the one already acting on this first page can be slightly edited to work in less time, then why not. Whatever uses the least effort is the most likely to get a response from Reltair, imo.
