Different pass per user (49)

1 Name: Ken : 2013-04-09 10:59 ID:yTTL4MoM [Del]

I would like to suggest making a different pass per user. Instead of making accounts (which clearly violates what dollars is), why don't each member just have a dedicated password which will serve something like an account. That way we may receive e-mails if there are responds to our post and members can also contact us. And there is also a invite button on the page. Which we will use to invite other member. The pass will serve as username and password. And the first time you log-in you will put some details like desired name and e-mail as well as country. So that we may recognize those from the same country and missions can be organized by country or worldwide.
This will help us get track of our post. This will also remember our name on the chat room. That way we don't have to set our name every time we log in.

No offense :) Just suggesting :) Because password can already be found by simply using google search with no effort at all.

This could also make receiving mail (or text if possible) for special announcement possible. Since we will have options for receiving it.

I agree.

Nop, this won’t allow other to freely join our community, some other Dollars website work with invites but you know what ? they are shit, because there are smart people that just don't feel like searching for an invite to join so The Dollars'd lose lots of people just because of that.

And it's also a good thing that the password can be found just by searching, trolls get tired of this site and people that actually want to talk and help other will stay for as long as they can and in most cases they stay for a long time.

The Chat isn't ours so we couldn't possible make the chat remember use just because we are logged in the BBS.

If you have any other questions or suggestions that might contradict what I said and that follow The Dollars structure then by all means lets discuss.

Actually it could work to have dedicated passwords for each topic, not the main page. Password is typed, and then gives you email updates on who posts what. This way everyone can freely join, but can enter a password (and email) thus turning on email updates.

>>6 Where execly is the password typed ?

It would be cool if we could type a diffrent password in the login page, instead of "baccano" we would type our own password, and for a registration page it could be something like this:

Choose your password:_______________
Type your e-mail:___________________

And the registration page would be a tab next to "Updates" or "Links" saying something like "Register" also it would only appear when you type "baccano" in the login page, if you log in with your own password that Tab would disappear.

What do you guys think ?

I mean Dollars should be kept a secret right? Just like in the anime. Only those who are invited are allowed to join. That's why people never knew that dollars is just an online community. Because the URL is hidden and people only knew the password if someone invites them and give them a password.

Also, 1 bad thing about this being too open to the point that you'll know the password just by google. Haters can access the site and post spams. Dollars secrecy is also gone. And anyone will know about our whereabouts.

>>9 I agree with what you say about fact that anyone can know about our whereabouts. But the site is actually meant to be an open site. From my understanding the password was put on just to make it seem like on the anime. Also we don't want to be a secret, even now many Dollars are trying to spread the name so people know about us.

>>10 Just what I was going to say.

This site will never work by invites and will always remain semi-open for everyone (I hope).

For exemple >>9, if this site worked with an invite system then probably you wouldn't be here, possibly not even me, so lets keep the website this way (none-invite).

Because I really, really do not feel like reading this thread, Im just going to address the issues I see in the op.

1. there is 0 need for a unique entry password for every person.
1a. The password is only there in the first place for cosmetic reasons, it seriously is not meant to keep people out. If you think it is there because this is super secret group of secretness, you need to leave.
2. Why are you talking about instead of making accounts do this, while decribing exact ways of how people would regularly make accounts.
3. chatroom is not ours.
4. lurk more

16 Name: Bookman !sdF/UdZzko : 2013-04-11 01:15 ID:xV177m+Z [Del]

>>15 if you read the posts we already talked about the password being there for cosmetics. We are talking about on the treads you type in a password and email to receive notifications for when someone comments. No accounts no making site private.

>>15 Why don't you lurk more (on this thread) before commenting.

Dude it's not making accounts, it's making password with an e-mail to get mail notifications.

Also, why do you have diffrent passwords but the same name >>15 >>14 ?

Any ways still agree with the idea.

>>26 ID changes with IP address, not specific computer. I've used computers that have given me three different IDs over the course of several weeks. sleep is also belligerent simply because he has to explain this phenomenon roughly once a month, if not more. There ARE three trips though, but people do change trips occasionally. Either way, moving on.

So as far as I can tell we've moved past site privacy, cosmetics and most anonymity from OP, which has watered this down to receiving email updates? If not, by all means correct me.

As for the email update thing, I'm still not very fond of it. By the simplest method you'd get an email once someone replied to a thread you posted in. Of course, why would I bother to check an email to find out whether someone responded to a post or not when it's faster to just check the post itself? Speed brings up another interesting point: this site is the fasted site I use, bar none. No ads, no convoluted graphics, no extension-based interface and rapid server response. Add in this new mechanic and you end up with the server sending up to a few hundred emails every few minutes, things slow down. Not drastically, but the benefit seems less than the cost. Finally, the email amount. Yes, I know some threads die after a few posts, but what about the ones that..ah... don't? I'd much rather not get 200+ emails a week telling me that "somebody" said "something" when I can't even observe it in it's proper frame. There ARE ways to avoid this happening, but it requires (of all things) increased user tracking. While we successfully whittled out the repeat-suggestions, I'm still not convinced what we have left is worth anything.

If I'm not mistaken, ID also changes on each board. Each board will have a constant, but different ID. Like all posts on Main will have the same ID, but it'll be a different but constant ID on Technology.

29 Name: Thiamor (on another computer) : 2013-04-12 21:57 ID:1VuLYTop [Del]

>>27
Also people can easily have their phone SHOW them the message (same for computers) when the email is sent out so they wouldn't have to actually open up the email. Not many would do it, but it's possible.

30 Name: Anugar !8wy2pTNghM : 2013-04-13 06:24 ID:zqOzDu79 [Del]

>>28 I think other people IDs also change change depending on the computer you are using, it's like a junction of both the viewer computer and the "hoster" IPs, one ID of single user might be 123 for me but for you it might be 231.

As to >>27 1 day delay would be cool, in the end of the day BBS would send the emails not every time someone replyes to a thread, for exemple sometimes I forget I even posted on a thread and I end up never checking it again.

Also the emails would only be sent out if the last post isn't yours (maybe) and a new button could also be implemented saying something like "Follow: [ ]" (by checking you'd receive email notification and if you uncheck you wouldn't) But maybe a new button would be too much.

But yeah gotta agree with you, this would slow down the server, maybe an independent machine processing all this, but of course that would cost some $$ and I don't want to make life hard for Reltair.

also would help to notify new messages they post and improve space missions dividing them by country

I like the ideas in this thread. I would like to be able to see if people responded to me in a thread, and just track what happens in threads. Subscribing to a thread sounds like a really good idea to me. Sure a person could just go and check on the threads, but after a while it gets hard to keep track of all my different posts.along with the email idea, if we wanted to send any mass messages like in Durarara!!, say something major happened then anybody who commented on the thread would get updates. With this we could do like how they helped Anri in episode 22.

how about we change the password like all caps or something like that and then it will take you to a logging/registration screen where everyone can have there own personal account but still keep the opening page. for the registration it could ask for something like 1.screen name 2. e-mail 3 password.
