I think everyone who has watched Durarara!!! Should have noticed that members always gets updates on their phones.
I think it would be a cool idea if the site could take our phone #'s and send us updates on news or popular missions. But I think it should come with a set of options on what you want to get sent so its just not random stuff and that becomes spam. It should also be free. Leave a comment and your thoughts about this please.

Yes! This needs to happen. Like an email once a week or something. Just little things of course that would be easy to do, but you have to do them all week. Then you can talk about the results.

This is a really good idea, I wondered about this a while back and it would be pretty cool. It could work out as sort of a newsletter right? And a lot like the show in a way! I think it could catch on! :)

Oh, but it should be optional. Like something you sign up for... I know not everyone is going to want to do it, but for those of us that do it would be really cool!

This is too much trouble to do, when as mentioned above (even if they think this idea is better) that we have a texting group (many, actually) and thus why try wasting Reltair's time with some useless function, when it can already be used via the texting group?

For instance, if they make an app, it won't be free, or it'd still cost money to see updates. Either way we have other ways of this, which still makes this useless.

Just a suggestion. Working off the assumption that most people have email linked to their phones. The easiest, and most versatile solution would be a 'subscription' feature.

One could subscribe to select boards via a button inline with the 'create new thread' and 'view all threads' buttons saying 'subscribe to board'

There could also be a 'subscribe to thread' option at the bottom of a thread next to the 'new reply' button, this way you can subscribe to 'Canada' and not worry about constant messages from all other 'country' threads, sorry Belgium, you aren't so applicable to my day to day life that I need instant notifications from your thread.

At this point it would be easy enough to include a feature that only informs you when there is an update to a thread you posted in.

These ideas are commonly implemented on many other sites, and I'm sure we could get something like that up and running easily enough.

This would be nice for people who can't always come to the computer to see what's new on the site!

this would be a great idea. some times i got no time to be on the computer. getting notifications and mission via text message should be great.

I would love to see an app for this, but judging from the several 'dollars phone app' threads posted through-out this site, I can only assume that production is going slowly. In my experience the easiest solution is often the best.
As I stated, it wouldn't even need to be a phone app, almost everyone can receive email to their phone. So we could get this to work with a small modification to the site, based off of methods that have existed for so long on forums that it's almost an oddity to not see it.
It's the minimum effort solution, and would serve multiple purposes.

As much as I would love to help, after suggesting it. sadly it's not my area of expertise.

I've made a Dollars-Chat App.
It's a little bit simple, it only want a Password(at the Main-Site of the Dollars) and then you are at the Site of the Chatrooms. Not much, but at the Phone it's easier to get to the Chatrooms like that.

you have to open the link from your phone, that's easier than downloading it to your computer and install it then on your phone

It says "passwort" on my phone, and the text box is a little big, try to make it smaller.

And maybe implement RSS feed on the app so it can actually work as a Dollars application, can you code that ?

The text box is originally not that big... The most Phones had really big Displays, so I've done it like that.
You have to tipe the normal password in it (like on this site).

I like the idea, but, as others have said, it's a lot of work for Reltair to add a whole new function like this, not to mention the fact that in order to do something like that, you'd possibly need another completely separate server just to ensure that the emails and addresses are secure. It isn't especially easy to send emails to large groups of people.

That isn't even the end of the issues with it, Reltair has a life, and I doubt he spends excessive amounts of time looking after the site. That being said, if Reltair were to decide to make this function available, who would send out the emails? Someone well-known on the site and a person known to be fairly level-headed and unbiased would be best, but how does this person go about getting picked in the first place?

In theory, this is a very cool idea, I like it. But, in reality, it brings up many questions of how, when, and who, and, while these questions can eventually be solved, it's still a large amount of trouble for all parties concerned in the realization of such an idea, and it is therefore improbable that this idea will ever come to fruition.

I agree with Dotachin, Its a great idea. . even if we are scattered around the world we can still be connected and we can even get to meet other dollars from our areas.

Well, it may come at another time since the notification is being made at a certain place that would be sending to around the world due to our different time zones, but i really like the idea how everyone can be connected by using just an application :D

It would be best if these updates could be somehow limited by the member (ie, only show xyz threads and or tabs). This would also go best with a form of mobile chat room built in. Aka, the best way would be an app for a more trim mobile version of the website with the addition of refreshing its self every few seconds.

How about a chatroom app? that looks just like the one in durarara :3
