Mobile friendly site? (32)

1 Name: Liz : 2012-12-17 07:08 ID:I6hqaiWm [Del]

Like the title asks, would it be possible to get a more mobile friendly version of this site? Cause it would be useful since we could use our mobie devices like they do in the series to keep in touch. Plus being able to use the chatroom on the go would be amazing. Also a form of PM would be nice, although idk how that would work. This is all food for thought though, so take it with a grain of salt.

There's already been several talks over a PM system, and most everyone's turned it down/ pointed out it wouldn't work already.
That, and the chatroom isn't ours, so we can't really do anything about the mobile version of that, per se.
Talk about a better mobile version of the site can be found here:

I read that thread but I'm still not sure as to why nobody can make a mobile version of the site. I can understand if nobody has the time to make one, but that didn't seem to be the problem after reading that older thread.

It's not a matter of trouble, it's a matter of us not giving a fuck about the mobile users. We don't have that many people compared to those using the website, or even compared to the Smart Phones that actually can work well for the site as it stands.

Because of the above, there isn't a need (of any kind whatsoever) for any such work to go into making it even more easy and/or available for Mobile Users when they're already in such short numbers that it'd be a wasted effort.

It's a really good idea. I use my iPod for using this site all the time (like right now) and its extremely troublesome. It would be nice to have a mobile site or even far enough to have an app (though may be asking for too much).

>>5 hmmmm.. yeah I guess you're right but could you fix the "Help" hyperlink in the mobile, it reedirects to the password page

>>5 and what do you meen by "we" ?
Are you a mod ??
I thought they ware unknown, omg are you a mod ?

"We don't have that many people compared to those using the website"

How does that imply he's a mod? We means the entire site's members. Nothing in that sentence even implies anything about moderators. In that sentence, he's saying that there isn't much mobile users compared to users on a computer.

And >>7 You're asking the wrong person to fix anything, much less the Help page for mobile. Thiamor's a member here. Reltair is the admin here.

Thiamor's just a very helpful member, knowledgeable. Etc.

>>11 hmmmmm.. The arguments defending the possision of Tiamor as a member of the Dollars-bbs site are strong and look like word typen by a mod.

Are you a mod ? omg are you a fucking mod ??
(In case you haven't noticed yet, I always troll with people a little on my posts to take the edge of, "omg" and my hysterical presumption of which I implied that Thiamor being a mod and I'm quoting here "I thought they ware unknown, omg are you a mod ?" is just another exemple of needed and none offencive trolling)

Good motherfucking day sir.

I think that would be great to have a mobile friendly site.

>>12 Your grammar is terrible and I can't read shit of what you just wrote, other than the fact you think Thiamor (whom I call Tmore) is a mod. I highly doubt that the mods would be out announcing their mod powers here, and I have a theory that they don't even post (if they do then not often enough to be a regular). On a side note, your trolling abilities are even comparable to GHF and Azazel (who are both failttrolls), which means that you aren't even trolling. You just sound like an idiot honestly.

>>10 I kind of see where this is coming from, because his statement implies that he know if the user uses the phone or computer, which I guess you'd need an IP to know. Only Reltair would even know the IPs, as far as I understand, because only he has the power to IP ban someone. Unless I'm terribly mistaken and misunderstood something somewhere.

In truth, I don't even see how Tmore would even know how many mobile people we have vs computer users. Unless Tmore has some way to prove this or some type of evidence, his argument is invalid.

Now, if you'll excuse me, let's continue on with the thread. It really doesn't fucking matter who the mods are anyways.

/derail

I kind of think this would be nice because I use my mobile phone to check the site out when I'm running errands or something. It's kind of a pain in the ass to do with this site, but I want to see what's going on when I can't get to a computer. Does no one else care to look at their recent posts to see if anyone responds to it while they're gone?

Food for thought.

It could also be an app, i mean, yes it would be weird to see it in the app store, but is there some other way to DL apps?. and yes i know that it would require development but i dont think it wold be that difficult.

I dont make apps, so i wouldnt know.

Unfortunately, the php software these boards use limits the possibility of a "mobile version" of the site.

>>15
I'm unsure about the possibility of an Andriod app, but an attempt to create an iPhone app would most likely be rejected by Apple's approval process. Some boards contain content which Apple may deem too offensive based on their guidelines. Also, apps that are just a "website wrapped in an app" are typically rejected.

but i still like the idea of a mobile friendly site

Let me put it this way. if we had many mobile users, wouldn't you think at-least one of these "Mobile Topics" in suggestions would get some sort of influx of replies in a manner that is both constructive and most possibly positive? It goes without saying that 9 times out of 10 those topics, whether made properly or not, hardly ever gets positive feedback from any member. It leads us to the assumption that we hardly have a large enough user-base on phones compared to the computers, to really even bother Reltair about. Now lets also recall posts and topics about kids using this whilst in class.

We hardly see it mentioning a phone (rarely as it is, we've seen a few posts about that) whereas they are normally using a school computer.

You don't at-all need to be Relair or a mod to base it on what we've seen. You got to read in-between the lines every now and again, Leigha, and do the work yourself rather than expect the only things like that, are known simply by Reltair's knowing.

In the end it's really safe to assume that we don't have a very large user-base on phones.

we never try :D

>>19 Or all the mobile users don't have a short temper, like me, and generally don't care? You did have a point though. If this topic topic didn't get that many hits of people complaining, then it doesn't need to be done. We can wait for the wave of phone lovers to take over the future and request this site in a year or two.

On the other hand, as >>16 said, it really doesn't fucking matter if we can't even get this shit coded. Which means something completely different would have to be coded as an app. I think that it'll just be too difficult to bother with anyways.

22 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2013-01-11 17:55 ID:L41yYmO0 [Del]

To be honest, making a site shift to a mobile friendly version when used on phones/tablets isn't that difficult at all and doesn't affect the appearance on normal computers. However, I doubt Reltair has the time for it, and why would he bother if so few people have requested it?

23 Name: nerdyanimegirl : 2013-01-12 00:39 ID:ddfQw8If [Del]

I think it's a great idea because we need to stay in touch and get more people. plus most people are on their phones now a days. this mobile site could help.

>>23
But we don't get a lot of people asking for this site to be better for Mobile phones. Therefore we don't need it.

25 Name: Sleepology !4a6Vun8zuw : 2013-01-13 15:54 ID:aliUN9XP [Del]

What I want to know is what isn't mobile friendly about this site?

>>25 The top bar for home, chatroom, etc. redirects me to the home page. I honestly don't think it's urgent though. If I could not use the boards I might pitch a fit. Until demand goes up, theres no point in reltair putting in too much work.

That just sounds like your computer isn't properly handling cookies correctly. What browser are you using?

Pretty sure it's a phone, given they posted this into the suggestion for the "Mobile Friendly Site" topic.

Either way, enabling cookies in settings should fix the problem. Also, ensuring that browser history isn't constantly deleted might also fix the problem.

>>27 that's been a pretty frequent bug with mobile devices on this, but saying it makes this site not mobile friendly is like saying McD's is healthy because they have apple slices. Easily fixed by just putting in the url manually
